ICT Trends Article March 2016: Contrasts in DemandGarry Roberton
A quick glance at this month’s Seek ICT job advert figures (Fig.1) indicates that the usual upward trend for this time of the year is currently tracking below the same period for 2015. And in the NZ Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) jobs online monthly report for February 2016, the all vacancies index fell by 0.5 percent with IT decreasing by 0.2 percent. Over the year to February, job vacancies increased in all of the industry groups, up 4.7 percent, while IT vacancies fell by 7.0 per cent. This slight trough in the current ICT job adverts market needs to be viewed in a global context, which reveals a robustly growing ICT industry where demand for skills continues to outstrip supply.
LinkedIn Economic Graph Research: New York CityLinkedIn
This research was presented at the inaugural Tech Talent Pipeline advisory board meeting on February 12.
Over the course of three months, we analyzed aggregate LinkedIn data from more than 3 million LinkedIn members in the New York City region and 150,000 NYC-based businesses to provide the Tech Talent Pipeline with insights on the current state of the city’s tech industry. This research is now informing the Tech Talent Pipeline team’s decisions on how to deploy $10 million in funding to help NYC schools, government, nonprofits, and companies better prepare New Yorkers for in-demand tech jobs and fuel the continuing growth of NYC tech businesses.
The numbers show that there are real opportunities to train New York City’s diverse workforce for tech jobs at companies in many industries and at all stages of growth. And with this data and workforce training funding, the Tech Talent Pipeline can now begin to train New Yorkers in a targeted and efficient way for jobs in the city. These needs will continue to evolve, so we’re committed to regularly updating the data. The more insight we have, the easier it will be for New York City workers and employers to use this knowledge to bridge the gap in technology skills and hiring. In the coming months and years, we’re hoping to provide similar research and insights to other cities in pursuit of our vision to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce.

Connections As A Tool For Growth: Evidence From The LinkedIn Economic GraphLinkedIn
New evidence from LinkedIn’s current network, presented here, demonstrates the economic value of connections. We calculate an “index of connectedness” for each of 275 metro regions in the U.S., based on the average number of connections per LinkedIn member in that region. The higher the index of connectedness, the more dense the connections between LinkedIn members in that region. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, we calculate the four-year and one-year nonfarm payroll job growth for those metro regions.
This report was authored by Dr. Michael Mandel, with research supported by LinkedIn. November 2014.

The New Year In Commercial Cleaning Business TechnologyAndrea Vermurlen
Technology continues to evolve at a breakneck pace. Software and systems developers and partners are doing more to specifically address the commercial cleaning, janitorial services, and building service contractor (BSC) industry.
With over 100,000 companies delivering cleaning and janitorial services across the US, these executives are asking….What’s new? What’s coming? Are there advancements that could significantly impact my business? For 2017, we have gathered predictions from 5 experts in business technology – representing accounting/business systems, workorder solutions, time tracking, payroll and consulting.
What kind of impact will technology have on your company this year? See what our experts have to say about the 2017 editions of software solutions that help commercial cleaning companies grow their business.
Today’s workers are more connected than ever—using multiple devices and applications to access and manage the constant stream of information that comes from living in an always-on world. But is hyper-connectedness helping employees be more productive or simply leaving them overwhelmed?
Research from Cornerstone OnDemand, conducted in collaboration with leading global insights firm Kelton, breaks down employees’ attitudes regarding technology in the workplace and their perspectives on whether company-provided applications are supporting how employees want to get their jobs done. The survey captures generation and industry-specific expectations across the board, with added insights on employees’ thoughts regarding collaboration and their willingness to use wearable technology in the workplace.
The survey reveals that the always-moving, always-on workplace is overwhelming employees — especially Millennials, the youngest of our workforce. Today’s workers are desperate to simplify the chaos, and employers can use these insights to facilitate the new world of work and close the gap between the types of technology organizations provide and what employees truly want in order to stay productive and perform at their very best.
This is First Round's effort to provide an in-depth snapshot of what it's like to run a technology startup in 2018. We surveyed over 520 venture-backed founders who volunteered their experience and opinions.

In the long history of labor forces, there perhaps has never been a more in-demand and competitive candidate pool than today’s technology workers. While this candidate-driven market is driving technology innovation, it is also placing added pressure on IT hiring managers to not only stay consistently engaged in the hiring process, but also to continue to offer increasingly lucrative compensation packages, engaging projects and a compelling corporate culture in order to remain competitive in the current IT hiring ecosystem.

salary, a fundamental question
Knowing that the wages you are offering employees is
fair is intrinsic in your success. When you’re recruiting for a
new position does what you’re offering stack up with your
competitors in your own city, and what about companies
in other major Canadian cities?
It is a matter of perception; if offers are too low will strong
performers choose to work with you? If they are too high
can you afford to keep your staffing levels where they
need to be?
The question of what people are being paid so
fundamental that it is something we are asked about by
our friends and families, the media, our clients and it is a
discussion we have with job candidates literally tens of thousands of times a year.
Randstad technologies has commissioned a comprehensive analysis of our own
internal numbers and numbers from a valued external resource and have produced a
guide to the salaries of roles that matter to you, focused on the cities where you work.
The business intelligence of salary is a complex problem to address. Randstad Canada
places thousands of people a month, in cities across the country in every industry – but
that data, as strong as it is doesn’t comprise all of the data we use and should make
available. To help us fill in the gaps, we worked with the Economic Research Institute
to establish a more comprehensive view of salaries in Canada.
We’ve separated our guide by industry and by region — providing you a focused look

IT PROFESSIONALEMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK 2016
AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE CHANGING FACE OF THE
TECHNOLOGY SECTOR AND THE GROWING NUMBER
OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OCCUPATIONS.
Based on 2015 data, this year could record the highest IT job growth rate
in over a decade. The IT category recorded an unemployment rate of
2.6%, which is nearly HALF the national rate, and the industry shows no
signs of slowing down. For 2016, CompTIA’s consensus forecast projects
4.9% worldwide IT industry growth and 4.7% growth in the U.S. market.
But what does that mean to an IT professional in a crowded job market?
After all, that type of growth is sure to attract competition. However, as
technology becomes increasingly interwined in our work and home life, IT
services will only continue to grow. IT professionals play a key role in the
deployment, integration, and management of cloud computing, business
process automation, data analytics, and related innovations. This means
that for the first time in a decade, an entire sector of workers can be
particular about the work they choose to do.
