At CXOTalk.com, we believe that recognizing the work of Chief Digital Officers is an important step in creating awareness and understanding of this role. We selected the 20 Chief Digital Officers presented here in collaboration with Little Bird, a marketing platform that identifies influencers. Little Bird uses social network analysis to determine those influencers most respected by their peers. In addition to name and company, each Chief Digital Officer is presented with several of their own influencers. Look at these influencers to get a broader sense of the CDO community. I continue to be impressed by its wide range of expert guests and by co-host Michael Krigsman’s thoughtful, insightful interviews on critical topics ranging from leadership to innovation. Given Michael’s extensive network of thought leaders, I am honored to pen an introduction to his latest work, this fantastic collection of TwentyInfluentialChiefDigitalOfficers. Why is this important? According to Capgemini, since 2000, 52% of Fortune 500 companies have gone bankrupt, been acquired, or ceased to exist. Digital disruption, at first limited to the music, publishing, and media sectors, now affects every industry. Hiring a CDO signals Wall Street that your organization is takingthethreat–andopportunity–ofdigitaltransformation seriously. Michael and Little Bird did a fabulous job of selecting this diverse, cross-sector group, using social network analysis to identify CDO influencers most respected by their peers. INTRODUCTION No surprise that their top 20 list includes four previous CDO Club 'CDO of the Year' award winners: Adam Brotman of Starbucks (2015); Rachel Haot of the City of New York (2014); and U.K. award-winners Tanya Cordrey of the Guardian (2015) and Mike Bracken of U.K. Government Digital Service (2014). Compiling this list could not have been easy, given that around the globe there are already more than 1,000 talented CDOs, and that new CDO hires are doubling every year. So, I hope that this is the first of many editions. And, next, I hope Michael creates an edition for influential Chief DATA Officers!
