present progressive tense of Italian verbs
In English, it is formed with the auxiliary verb
“to be” and the present participle
In Italian, it is formed with the auxiliary verb
“stare” and the gerund present.
It's used to describe actions that are in progress
at a specific moment in time (the present).

3. THE PRESENT INDICATIVE OF "STARE"
This verb normally means "to stay", but when combined with the
present gerund is better translated into English with "to be":
Io sto
Tu stai
Lui/lei sta
Noi stiamo
Voi state
Loro stanno
I am
You are
She/he is
We are
You are
They are
4. THE PRESENT GERUND OF ITALIAN VERBS
1. Verbs in -are (first conjugation)
You have to add the desinence -ando to the root of the verb.
So the gerund present of "andare" will be "and-ando".
2. Verbs in -ere (second conjugation)
You have to add the desinence -endo to the root of the verb.
So the gerund present of "vedere" will be "ved-endo".
3. Verbs in -ire (third conjugation)
You have to add the desinence -endo to the root of the verb.
So the gerund present of "dormire" will be "dorm-endo".
5. Normally in Italian, the present tense is used to emphasize that
an action is taking place now.
In part 2 we will discuss another use of the Italian present
progressive tense.

The present gerund "leggendo" is paired with the first
person singular of the present of stare verb "sto."
The present gerund "partendo" is paired with the first

mangiare: mangi-ando
10. Many Italian grammar books do not indicate that there is
another use for the Italian present progressive tense.
In fact, as for the English present progressive, it can be used
to stress that the action is continuous…
