If you only knew how many times I’ve been asked what on earth an
IT specialist does at Cirque du Soleil? “Oh, come on,” people say,
“You don’t need that. You’re a circus.”

Danielle Savoie, Vice-President of Information Technology and Knowledge Management at
Cirque du Soleil, has heard this comment not only from people unfamiliar with the activities of
Cirque du Soleil, but also from Cirque employees.
Cirque du Soleil’s international headquarters are in Montreal. It was founded in 1984 by a group
of public entertainers, led by Daniel Gauthier and Guy Laliberté, who wanted to reinvent the
concept of the circus, which had barely evolved since the 1800s. Audiences and critics were won
over by Cirque du Soleil’s very first show, which was dramatically different from the traditional
circus: it featured spectacular costumes, modern original music, dramatic theatrical elements and
no animals.
Cirque du Soleil grew very rapidly. After touring within Quebec and Canada in the first few years
following its creation, Cirque performed in California in 1987, in Europe in 1990 and in Japan in
1992. In 2000, when Danielle Savoie became vice-president, the organization employed close to
2,000 people. At the time, Cirque had three permanent shows: Mystère, which had been presented
at Treasure Island in Las Vegas since 1993, Ô, presented at the Bellagio in Las Vegas since
October 1998, and La Nouba, presented at Walt Disney World Resort since December 1998.
Cirque du Soleil also had five tours on the road, which moved every two months. An office in
charge of managing the fixed Las Vegas and Orlando shows was established in Las Vegas, and
three regional offices – Montreal, Amsterdam and Singapore – supervised the road shows.

IRIS is the new CRIS (Current Research Information System) developed by Cineca, resulting from the
merge of two different solutions that have been used by Italian universities in the last 10 years. By the end of 2015, over 60 Italian Universities will be using IRIS. One of the main components of IRIS is Dspace-CRIS, an open source stand-alone mixed repository-CRIS platform (developed by the Consortium) that combines the agile OA content management provided by DSpace with additional CERIF compliant CRIS features built on top (such as persons, organisations and projects).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

One of the main components of IRIS is Dspace-CRIS, an open source stand-alone mixed repository-CRIS platform (developed by the Consortium) that combines the agile OA content management provided by DSpace with additional CERIF compliant CRIS features built on top (such as persons, organisations and projects).
IRIS has 5 different modules that can work independently, but at the same time they interoperate through standard protocols and interfaces.

Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

At WSTS 2024, Alon Stern explored the topic of parametric holdover and explained how recent research findings can be implemented in real-world PNT networks to achieve 100 nanoseconds of accuracy for up to 100 days.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

You missed the point on slides 2 and 3 but nailed it on 4 and 5. One slide 2 it was not clear at all what your were trying to convey. On Slide 3 the systems are greater than Memory. That said, you did an excellent job mapping the the business processes to generic one and your analysis on the last slide was strong but you didn’t bring the conclusion on the slide. You left it implied. You used Notes effectively to augment your slides. Other: Use and cite external references. Integrate more concepts from current and prior classes. •Ability to creatively and successfully apply class materials – No examples of class materials incorporated. •Provides a balanced perspective that includes both pros and cons in the analysis – The final slide gives the opportunity for to analyze and state your perspective. You did some good analysis but it didn't make it to the slide.. •Good use of the ‘deck’ as a medium of communication – Slides are neatly presented and format and fonts are good. They do not stand on their own well as individual slides, especially 2 & 3. On slide 3, it is ok to use a graphic to draw interest to the your slide but you gave it too much real estate at the expense of the message. The key message on the slide is not completely clear. Improve them with your message and build a story for the presentation. Getting the presentation right seems to be the hardest task in the case assignments. Keep at it.
