SPHEROS IN ART
Stephanie Bass
PLAN WITH LIBRARIAN & ART TEACHER
• Collaborate with Art teacher and
Librarian on how this lesson will fit into
STEM in the library and how it applies
to art.
• Train librarian on how to use Sphero
app and code Spheros to make shapes.
• K-2 will draw their shapes.
• 3-6 will code their shapes during
Library STEM time.
CO-TEACH
• The TRT (me) cotaught with the librarian for
the first day to demonstrate best practices
for teaching students how to code using
Sphero app.
• Students were broken into groups and
were tasked with figuring out how to code
the Sphero to make a square, triangle and
circle.
• TIPS:
• Keep speed below 100.
• Consider Canvas size
PAINTING TIME!
• The art teacher used 2x4s as barriers to
keep Spheros on the table/canvas.
Another suggestion was pool noodles.
• The art teacher opened with a lesson
on Jackson Pollock and his style of
painting.
• TRT cotaught with Art teacher and
librarian during first days of Sphero
painting.

LONG EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY
• Using the same code, students took
long exposure photographs.
• K-2 drew their shapes.
• 3-6 used their code.
• They layered the shapes, just like they
did with the painting.
• TIPS:
• Two iPads needed
• Free and paid long exposure apps (we
used Slow Shutter Cam $)
