1) Parenting measures were moderately associated with friendship quality and strongly associated with attachment styles.
2) Secure and avoidant attachment styles were strongly linked to friendship quality.
3) Attachment style largely mediated the relationship between parenting and friendship quality, except for relationships with peripheral peer groups, where ambivalent attachment was a stronger mediator.
The study demonstrated the importance of considering adolescent attachment as influencing the impact of parenting on friendship outcomes.

Sex education provides age-appropriate information about sexuality to students from an early age. It aims to debunk common myths, such as the idea that discussing sexuality will lead children to experiment. In reality, comprehensive sex education that discusses both abstinence and contraception has been shown to help young people delay sexual activity and make informed decisions. It also teaches important life skills around relationships, consent, and sexual health that can help protect youth from STDs, unintended pregnancy, and unhealthy or abusive relationships.
Teenage concerns
Sexual health is an important issue during adolescence as habits formed during teenage years often last a lifetime. Some key issues regarding teen sexual health include physical body changes, sex education, body image struggles during puberty, dating pressures, teenage pregnancy which greatly impacts lives and makes continuing education difficult, and risk of sexually transmitted diseases which half of sexually active teens will contract by age 25 if not properly educated about safe sex and abstinence. Teenagers need to understand their self-worth and have a plan to avoid unprotected sex and teen pregnancy.

The percentage of individuals in the United States and NH with past year illicit drug dependence or abuse was highest among young adults between the ages of 18-25. A rapid assessment process was used to do a deeper dive to understand the substance use behaviors of young adults. And to ensure prevention strategies are culturally sensitive and relevant to the target populations, to help inform prevention efforts for early childhood and youth, and to establish baseline data to track implemented prevention efforts.
Themes: Community, physical environment, job opportunities and growth, communication approaches, generational differences, sense of hope or optimism, stress coping mechanisms, perception of substance misuse, consequences of substance misuse, and substance use
Key strategies: Academia/education, peer support, family and friends, key messages, and community resources
Now what? Next steps:
1. The Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services put out an RFP and will fund 11 of the 13 Regional Public Health Networks to implement young adult strategies (SBIRT; Employers; Peer leadership programs).
2. NAMI to adapt “Connect”, a youth-based suicide prevention train-the-trainer program: “Connect for Young Adults” (MH; suicide; AOD).
3. Develop and roll out a young adult social media campaign with a focus on binge drinking.
4. Second administration of the young adult assessment is being planned for 2019 which will provide important comparison data and indicate if the trends are moving in the right direction.
