This document defines and discusses the concept of religion or "mazhab" in Arabic and Urdu. It provides definitions of mazhab as meaning "to go" or "a passage." It identifies key elements of religion as beliefs, practices/customs, and ethics. Religions are categorized as either revealed, based on revelation and prophets' instructions, or non-revealed, based on experience, meditation, intuition, or superstition. The need for religion is explained as accomplishing natural desires and knowing the purpose and way of life. Impacts of religion include creating morality and balancing duties and rights.
