The Melbourne Football Club engaged ISFM to assist in developing a business case proposal for a new sports and community precinct located in Docklands. The proposed four-stage development would accommodate facilities for all levels of Australian rules football as well as netball and community programs. ISFM helped coordinate stakeholders and ensured the facility's goal of providing recreational amenities for local residents and workers. The completed business case was presented to government departments in an attempt to secure funding for the project.

CASE STUDY
Project Title: Melbourne FC Sports and Community
Precinct
Client: Melbourne Football Club
Project Description
ISFM was engaged by the Melbourne Football Club to
assist them in the development of a business case pro-
posal. The business case proposal was for the develop-
ment of a new state of the art sporting and community
centre to be located at “Western Park” in the Waterfront
city precinct of Docklands. The new centre would create a
new ‘home’ for the Melbourne Football Club who are the
oldest football club in the world.
The masterplan for the new centre, proposed to be under-
taken in four stages, would accommodate a number of
functions including:
− A fully integrated home that will pro-
vide facilities for all levels of the game
– from grass roots to elite
− A home for the AFL Victoria, the Victo-
rian Women’s Football League
(VWFL), Netball Victoria and the Aus-
tralian Netball Team as the home of
the Diamonds
− A community health and fitness centre
for local residents and workers at
Docklands
− A community leadership program with
strong ties to the Reach Foundation
through the clubs President, Jim
Stynes
− A pre-eminent facility for women –
both women working within the facility
as well as those training and visiting
the facility
Throughout the development of the business case ISFM,
in their project coordination role, ensured the underlying
aim of the facility; to create a community base and recrea-
tional amenities for the residents, workers and visitors to
the Docklands, has been nurtured and promoted.
The business case proposal has been presented to a
number of Government departments with whom funding
contributions are attempting to be secured.
