In 2013, as the city of Medellín pushed to become a center of innovation, they sought guidance to improve their sustainability goals — as the two are inter-connected, including sustainabilty impact areas and measurement, including: mainstreaming the environment and public awareness, green finance, climate change adaption, water, waste, transportation, and energy.
ISAL — a conference to engage community and create buzz around SDGs, low carbon cities, sustainability, and innovation.

2. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to present introductory design ideas for the ISAL 2015
Conference at Plaza Mayor, Medellin. We are inspired by the development of Medellin as an
award winning city -- globally recognized for its deep investment in sustainable design and
modern innovations.
Noting that many of our fundamental values and attitudes towards process and decision-
making are aligned with those of ISAL and Ruta-N, we believe that we can offer an Overall
Site Environment that builds community, fosters connection, inspires innovative thinking and
action, and is a pleasure to experience.
3. VISUALIZE
Every step of our process is driven by communicating the concept with
inspiration imagery, hand sketches, renderings and CAD drawings. On site
during the design build, our concept is fully realized as it was visualized.
EXPERIENCE
The end goal is simple. We aspire to create innovative and meaningful
environments that synthesize all of the project’s intent into a set of
unforgettable experiences.
INTEGRATE & IMAGINE
We approach each project with an overarching vision of design integration
and respect for our client’s intent, our strategic partner’s perspectives, the
site we build in, the natural surroundings and local culture.

4. On the following pages, we have collected imagery into focused
categories: creative use of color, large scale sculpture, lighting
integration, materiality, community spaces, the performance
environment, etc. Several of the pages highlight what we are calling
‘ISAL OPPORTUNITIES’ which focus specifically on amplifying the
core values of the conference.
These ideas and drawings are only intended to start the design
conversation and inspire thought. Should we be engaged, we would
begin to craft the design according to your specific needs and vision,
the site details, conference production and create a cohesive design
aesthetic for ISAL 2015.

Sustainability and Innovation
as it pertains to (man-made)
materiality is a key component
in the central message of the
ISAL conference.
It is fitting that the materials
used to design the conference
have a responsible story as
well.

Material Re-Use Project
- an initiative created within
the design of the conference.
Every piece of custom scenic,
from the seating and signage

11. The ISAL Student Housing Competition is part of an initiative led by the Housing
Ministry in Bogota. Their plan is to build 600,000 affordable homes over the next 2
years. Twenty teams of students in architecture and design programs will compete
to create sustainable housing utilizing repurposed shipping containers.

13. The ISAL Student Design Competition and Housing Ministry’s mission is to provide affordable housing for
Latin Americans experiencing financial hardship. Jon Bon Jovi has been a longtime champion for the homeless
through the JBJ Soul Foundation, which most recently launched JBJ Soul HOME, an initiative aimed at building
and developing affordable housing to those most in need. He exemplifies the values of ISAL and would be
a natural fit to not only perform with his band but also could be active in outreach opportunities during the
conference.

14. On the rarest of occasions, Jon Bon Jovi will
perform solo with his hometown New Jersey side
band The Kings of Suburbia. These are exciting
performances where fans can expect to hear Jon
perform a collection of their favorite Bon Jovi
hits mixed with classic Rock & Roll songs! Jon
Bon Jovi & The Kings of Suburbia is truly a once-
and-a-lifetime opportunity to see this unique
performance that does not tour and is only
available to a select few.
Jon is also the Chairman of The Jon Bon Jovi
Soul Foundation, which provides solutions
and opportunity for families and individuals in
economic despair. It is the organization’s purpose
to assist in establishing programs that provide
food and affordable housing for those affected
by poverty and homelessness, while supporting
social services and job training programs.

We are inventive solutionists. Through design, we solve
the problems and challenges in every stage of our process.
Beyond problem solving, we are continuously inspired to
open our minds wide and think big.
We wonder, ‘Is there a smarter way to look at this design
challenge?’ ‘How does our design decision impact the
people & environment it touches? ‘ ‘Is there a new material,
more sustainable method or cutting-edge technology that
could influence our practice and the design for the better?’
Thinking this way gives us the freedom to be visionary,
innovative, and efficient -- pushing our creative boundaries
and extending a promise to our clients to deliver the very
best in Performance Environment Design.
