Tc1 is a transposable element found in C. elegans. Researchers studying Tc1 mobility in the C. elegans germline discovered the molecular mechanisms that function to silence (i.e. block) Tc1 mobility in these cells, thus preserving the integrity of the genome. Which of the following statements about C. elegans transposon silencing is/are TRUE? (SELECT ALL THAT APPLY) Question 4 options: Blocking the mobility of a Tc1 element inserted into the unc-22 locus causes the worms regain their ability to swim smoothly. Mutation of genes in the RNAi pathway blocks Tc1 element mobility. A stem-loop structure derived from the Tc1 element contains sequence that targets the Tc1 transposase mRNA for destruction. The mobility of Tc1 insertions is suppressed by cellular mechanisms that prevent Tc1 element transcription and therefore block production of Tc1 transpose mRNA. Read-through transcription of one Tc1 element can block the mobility of all Tc1 insertions in a cell. Purpose To generate a personal example of what you learned and the process by which you learned it Instructions Initial Post (reply) Respond to the following prompt: Describe something you learned and how you learned it. Examples Rachelle's Initial Post Below I described three scenarios of learning to give you a variety of examples. You only need to provide one. I learned to do yoga by watching video tapes of yoga instructor Rodney Yee demonstrating the moves and poses and talking through them. I also attending yoga classes at my gym where the instructor demonstrated the moves and poses and talked through them. As I watched them, I attempted to imitate what they where doing and to make adjustments to my poses by listening to their verbal instructions. I learned to fear walking by the oleander bushes in front of a particular house on a street in my neighborhood. I was walking my puppy, who I was training to walk on leash. I was wearing black pants and I had liver treats in my pocket. As I was walking close to the oleander bushes in front of this particular house, a meat bee stung my thigh. Apparently, meat bees like black and liver (meat)! For weeks when I walked on that street when I got near to that house I would feel anxious and cross over to the other side of the street. I learned to put ear plugs in my ears when I got to the movies. I'm super sensitive to sounds I don't have control over (a condition known as misophonia). At theaters, the volume seems to be turned way up. I have left movie theaters feeling auditorily attacked-- overstimulated by the noise. Desperate to buffer the sound, I thought I'm going to see if ear plugs would allow me to lessen the volume. They did. Now I carry a pair of ear plugs in my purse so I have them when I'm at the movies..

Over 600 students in an MBA capstone course at the University of Central Florida sat down to take a midterm exam late one fali. Two days later, It was dear to Richard Quinn, the professor of the class, that many of those students had cheated on the exam. Research showed that approximately 200 of the students had access to the test bank from which the exam questions were drawn. Quinn was extremely disappointed in his class, especially since he had a special section in his syllabus that contained a set of ethical guldelines related to student behavior. He announced that all of the students in the dass would have to retake the midterm exam, which would contain an entirely new set of questions. In addition, he told the class that although he was very close to finding out exactly who had cheated on the exam, he was willing to make them the following offer: If the cheating students would turn themselves in, they would not be punished, as long as they were willing to take a four-hour course on ethics. Quinn had arrived at this solution after discussing the matter with the university ethics committee. When asked about the incident, several of the students in the dass said that they heard Professor Quinn say that he would be preparing the tests for the dass himself. They assumed that this meant he would not be using a prepublished test bank. Thus, when they received the test bank, they thought that it was a study guide. When they found out that Professor Quinn had used a test bank, they questioned Professor Quinn's ethics. In handing the ethics problem in his class, Professor Quinn acted as an ethical leader by supporting and enforcing the ethical statement in his syllabus. But Professor Quinn also made some mistakes in helping his students to act ethically. Which of the following actions helped to reduce the likeihood that Professor Quinn's students would act ethically in the future? Check all that apply. Taking immediate action as soon as it became clear that an ethics violation had occurred Providing ethics training only to students who admitted to cheating Involving the ethics committee in ethical decisions Punishing the entire class when an ethical violation occurred Suppose Professor Quinn did tell students that he would be writing his own test questions, and then he used questions from a standardized test bank. His actions would indicate that there was a flawin the for the university.
