Introducing Industry oriented training to students of Kaziranga
University
Adhering to the objective of imparting industrial relevant training Kaziranga University School of
Business organized a workshop from 7th
to 11th
January 2013 titled Industry Readiness Program Series
(IRPS). During this workshop students were familiarized with the basic industry prerequisites like
crafting of a Curriculum Vitae (CV), ways of performing during a group discussion, conducting oneself in
an interview, importance of social networking, different aspects of role playing and mastering the art of
storytelling.
Addressing the students Prof (Dr) Sukhendu Samajdar, Pro Vice Chancellor of KU and Dean of KU School
of Business, elaborated on the core objectives like belief in the student’s ability, conviction in the
participants, conviction in the team members and belief in the process. He introduced to the students
Mr. Shafquat Irshad, Associate Director, International and Corporate Relations, Mr. Pulastyya Phukan
Senior Executive, University Affairs, Mrs Prabani Phukan Faculty, Business Communication (MBA) and
Padmaja Tamuli, Faculty, Business Communication (BBA, B.Com) -the team to conduct the workshop.
Starting off the workshop Mr. Shafquat Irshad addressed the students as brilliant creatures who can
mould their energy to be wonderful leaders and develop mastery in themselves. He elaborated on the
basic requirements while performing during an interview like energy, enthusiasm, expression etc. He
urged the students to go outside their comfort zone like outside places to know best practices outside
and become tougher professionally. He also advised them to come back and work for their own place.
Mr. Shafquat further familiarized the students on emerging sectors like retail, infrastructure, Healthcare,
Power and energy and top hiring sectors like IT, retail, healthcare, education, banking, financial services,
Insurance and energy. He urged the students imbibe in themselves the culture of respect and the art of
presenting oneself and hone their Verbal communication and Presentation skills. Mr. Shafquat further
elaborated before the students on India Employment trends and outlook-2012 like Healthcare,
Hospitality, IT, ITES(IT enabled services- call centre, BPO)etc. He further elaborated on types of Interview
like behavioral interview, standard interview, stress interview, stay interview, exit interview etc.
Miss Padmaja Tamuli, Faculty Business Communication (BBA, B.Com) on the second day of the workshop
talked about the different facets of crafting a CV like Job search writing, using action verbs, the basic
elements of a CV, how to make the CV more presentable before the prospective employers, difference
between a CV and a resume, useful tips while preparing a CV and also engaged the students in different
activities.
On the third day of the workshop Mrs. Prabani Phukan, Business Communication (MBA) elaborated on
the different aspects of Group Discussion like its features, types of GD topics, prerequisites of Group
Discussion, proper ways of giving one’s opinion during a GD, the tested areas of one’s personality during
a GD, Tips for performing better in GDs, Do`s and Don’ts during Group Discussion and suggestions.
On the fourth and final day of the workshop the students were trained on the aspects of team building,
decision making ability, cross cultural understanding, the art of public speaking, synchronized thought
process, rapport building and importance of social networking.
