Large span steel sheds can be used for iron ore storage with spans up to 150m and heights up to 40m. They are built with mild steel connections that do not require welding. A double-layer configuration is most cost effective for large spans. The sheds can be built over operating stockpiles without interrupting operations. Galvalume roofing is typically used and has good resistance to oxidation and high temperatures up to 315°C without discoloration. Iron ore storage sheds provide effective control of potential fugitive emissions and have lower operation and maintenance costs in compliance with environmental regulations.
