- 26. United Kingdom RLUK SCONUL RLUK(Research Libraries UK) represents the leading and most significant research libraries in the UK and Ireland. Its strategic objectives, reports, projects and partnerships work to help realise RLUK's vision of shaping the modern research library. Currently it has 34 members including QUB & TCD. SCONUL (Society of College, National & University Libraries) represents c.200 university libraries in the UK and Ireland, as well as national libraries and many of the UK’s colleges of higher education. Europe LIBER CENL CERLTEL LIBER's (Association of European Research Libraries) mission is to re-invent the Library for the Future by Enabling Open Science, Leading In Changing Scholarship and Shaping Innovative Research. Institutional membership is 495 pa. It has in excess of 400 members. Currently UL, UCC, NLI, DCU, TCD, NUIM, UCD and CONUL are members. CENL (Conference of European National Librarians) is a foundation with the aim of increasing and reinforcing the role of national libraries in Europe. Members of CENL are the national librarians of all Member States of the Council of Europe. It currently consists of 49 members from 46 European countries. CERL's (Consortium of European Research Libraries) purpose is to share resources and expertise between research libraries with a view to improving access to, as well as exploitation and preservation of, the European printed heritage. There are currently 267 members, including CONUL as a group member. The European Library is an independent not-for-profit library services organisation supported by CENL, CERL & LIBER. The current membership consists of all of Europe's national and a growing number of research libraries, including RLUK as a consortium member. Holds an annual conference in June/July, next is in Helsinki, Finland. The next annual general meeting takes place in Vienna, May 2016. - 28. North America ARL CARLOCLC ARL (Association of Research Libraries) is a non profit membership organization of 124 research libraries in North America. The Association operates as a forum for the exchange of ideas and as an agent for collective action. CARL (Canadian Association of Research Libraries) consists of 29 Canadian university libraries and two federal libraries. OCLC is a non-profit global library cooperative providing shared technology services, original research and community programs. Through OCLC, member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain WorldCat. Libraries gain efficiencies through OCLC’s WorldShare, a complete set of library management applications and services built on an open, cloud-based platform. Has a twice yearly ARL/CARL Association meeting (most recent was Vancouver, Apr 2016) and a once/two year Library Assessment conference (next is Virginia, Oct 2016). - 29. Australasia & RoW CAULIATUL IFLA CDNL CAUL (Council of Australian University Libraries) represents 39 Australian university libraries. Its mission is to improve access by the staff and students of Australian universities to the information resources that are fundamental to the advancement of teaching, learning and research. IATUL (International Association of University Libraries) provides a forum for the exchange of ideas relevant to librarianship in universities across the world. It also provides library directors and senior managers with an opportunity to develop a collaborative approach to solving common problems. Institutional membership ranges from €150- €500 pa. Currently DCU & UL are members. IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. It has c.1,500 members and membership is by association, institution or individual and ranges from €64-500. CDNL (Conference of Directors of National Libraries) is an independent association of chief executives of national libraries, established to facilitate discussion and promote understanding and cooperation on matters of common interest worldwide.
