We all know Greece is in deep trouble after defaulting on its debt to the International Monetary Fund. Many Greeks blame the austerity measures for much of the country’s continuing problems. The leftist Syriza party rode to power this year promising to renegotiate the bailout.
The Greek economy is shrinking. At such times one of the tools available with government is to tinker with the currency. Unfortunately the Greeks cannot do so because they share their currency with other nations of the EURO region.
Today’s lesson by Prof. Simply Simple attempts to explain you the story of ‘Greece Crisis’ using an interesting analogy.
The Greek government-debt crisis was the sovereign debt crisis faced by Greece in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007–08. Widely known in the country as The Crisis (Greek: Η Κρίση), it reached the populace as a series of sudden reforms and austerity measures that led to impoverishment and loss of income and property, as well as a small-scale humanitarian crisis.[6][7] In all, the Greek economy suffered the longest recession of any advanced mixed economy to date, overtaking the US Great Depression. As a result, the Greek political system has been upended, social exclusion increased, and hundreds of thousands of well-educated Greeks have left the country
The Greek government crisis (also known as the Greek depression) started in late 2009. It was the first sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone later referred to collectively as the European debt crisis.
In 2012, Greece's government had the largest sovereign debt default in history.
On June 30, 2015, Greece became the first developed country to fail to make an IMF loan repayment. At that time, Greece's government had debts of €323bn.
The Greek Financial Crisis has become a major issue in Greece and in Europe. This slideshow will discuss you with the background, effects, reasons, and future outloo k

The Greek economy is rarely a few weeks or months away from another economic, financial or political crisis. Does Greece have a long-term future inside the Euro Zone? It is clear that, having enjoyed strong economic growth in the years following her accession to the European Union, Greece has struggled to emerge from deep economic problems in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis. Greece is a small open economy, her GDP accounts for less than 0.25% of world output and Greece is a relatively small country within the Euro Zone. But her difficulties pose systemic risks for the currency union.

The root-causes of the Greek sovereign debt crisisSamant Jain
To better understand the current sovereign debt crisis in Greece, a longer view is warranted. In this paper presented at the 2nd Bank of Greece workshop on the economies of Eastern European and Mediterranean countries, the Bank of Greece covers a 2 decade history of Greece leading to current financial crisis prevailing in the country and looming large over Europe and the future of EU.
The 20 year period 1989-2009 is bounded by two major fiscal crises in Greece: the 1989-1993 crisis, and the ongoing crisis. In both crises deficits exceeded 15% of GDP. In between, Greece entered the Economic and Monetary Union and adopted the Euro. To facilitate discussion the 20 year period will be divided into two parts: the 1989-1999 period, and the 2000-2009 period.
In the final part of the presentation, solutions and remedies to overcome the crisis are suggested.

Ipsos European Pulse August 2015 - Views on the EUIpsos UK
An Ipsos survey of citizens in nine European countries finds a majority of respondents (73%) think things across the EU are headed in the wrong direction, and fewer than half agree that EU membership has improved their own standard of living. Attitudes are most negative among French respondents, with only 15% saying the union is on the right track, and of all countries surveyed only Spain responded more positively to this question than in 2014.
Europe: the world’s second smallest continent. But, with a population of 750 million people living in more than 50 countries, it has so many different dimensions.
This briefing pack summarises Ipsos research on public attitudes in Europe during 2015. The common theme: each study was conducted in a number of European markets, enabling us to compare and contrast attitudes across countries. This is not a comprehensive audit. But, by bringing these studies together in a single place, it paints a picture of the “mood of the continent” over the last 12 months, as well helping us to better understand the characteristics of individual countries. Keep in touch with our latest research at www.ipsos.com and @_Ipsos / @IpsosFrance
The “crisis” is now five years old, and it’s the countries of Europe which have been hardest hit.
New phrases are now trending among our politicians and journalists, ones which were rarely mentioned during the “good times” of the pre-2008 period: “banking crisis”, “double-dip”, “austerity”, “eurozone crisis”. Meanwhile, some older phrases have returned, such as “rising unemployment” and “this recession”.
But what has the effect of all this been on the psyche of people across Europe? This is the subject matter of a major new Ipsos/CGI-Publicis research project. The six-nation survey gives us a panoramic view of the mood on the street in Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Germany, focusing specifically on the crisis and looking ahead to (one hopes) its aftermath.

From the East, tensions with Russia over Ukraine have echoes of the Cold War, dampening business growth hopes in neighbouring economies and highlighting reliance on Russian natural resources.
2015: Real GDP growth of 0.8%
• The downward revision of Q4-2014 real GDP growth rate to -0.4% QoQ minimized the momentum of the Greek economy, drastically reducing the carry – over effect to just 0.1% forcing us to revise our forecast for real GDP growth rate to a range of 0.5% to 1.0% noting a median value of 0.8%
• Despite worries we believe that tourism will accelerate further in 2015 continuing to support the Greek economy
• EU funding: we expect EU funding to decelerate in 2015
• An upside risk on our estimates depends on the outcome of the negotiations between the new government and our EU partners.

The key findings of the November 2019 edition of our new Social Media Britain report - powered by Synthesio - include:
Overall Brexit continued to lead the conversation in November – however there was a 59% increase in NHS related mentions vs. October. This was driven in part by Corbyn revealing documents that he says indicate a Conservative government would sell off the NHS as part of a US trade deal.
The general election, which is the focus of our deep dive this month, as well as the London Bridge terror attack - both contributed to sizeable shifts in social conversation.
Following the ITV Leaders Debate, there was a sharp increase in conversation around the general election. The release of the Labour and Conservative manifestos seeing further spikes in volume towards the end of November.
When comparing Johnson and Corbyn activity on Twitter in November there were some notable differences in the focus of their posts. Whilst Brexit was mentioned across 42% of Johnson’s tweets – it was only mentioned within 6% of Corbyn’s. Corbyn focused mainly on the NHS, which was mentioned in just over a third of his tweets.

The European Unemployment Puzzle: implications from population agingGRAPE
We study the link between the evolving age structure of the working population and unemployment. We build a large new Keynesian OLG model with a realistic age structure, labor market frictions, sticky prices, and aggregate shocks. Once calibrated to the European economy, we quantify the extent to which demographic changes over the last three decades have contributed to the decline of the unemployment rate. Our findings yield important implications for the future evolution of unemployment given the anticipated further aging of the working population in Europe. We also quantify the implications for optimal monetary policy: lowering inflation volatility becomes less costly in terms of GDP and unemployment volatility, which hints that optimal monetary policy may be more hawkish in an aging society. Finally, our results also propose a partial reversal of the European-US unemployment puzzle due to the fact that the share of young workers is expected to remain robust in the US.

Competitive Interest Rates: These loans often come with lower interest rates compared to conventional loans.

Eligibility Criteria:
Location: The property must be located in a USDA-designated rural or suburban area. Many areas in California qualify.
Income Limits: Applicants must meet income guidelines, which vary by region and household size.
