The Media and Information Producers and
Users
• Media Producers
- someone who oversees projects (e.g. films, TV
shows) from conception to completion
- involved in the marketing and distribution process
• Media Users
- audience or consumers of media
-receivers of information disseminated by media
producers
2 Components of Information that makes
communication effective:
a. Development of the information
- the source must know how to generate
information and package it with utmost accuracy
b. Selection of medium or media to be used in
disseminating information
-the source must select the most appropriate
medium or media
Producers and Users of Media may
have the following purpose:
•to inform
•to educate
•to entertain
•to advocate
•to promote business
•to increase network
The Media Habits, Lifestyle, and
Preferences
•Media Habits-person’s normal use of
media
•Media Lifestyle- person’s use of media
based on his or her lifestyle
•Media Preferences-person’s choice of
media platform
Types of Media
•Broadcast media (television and radio)
•Print media (books, newspaper and
magazines)
•New media or internet
•Non-traditional media (film,
literature, and outdoor media)
For tomorrow’s activity:
Form a group of 5 and discuss the different uses of media platforms.
Describe and rate them according to entertainment value, networking
value, information value, education, and business. Use the matrix
below in describing and rating the media platforms. Explain the ratings
of the group.
