2. The Duo
• Trippy Blake are going to be the main featured
artist in this issue of Presidential magazine. The
duo
are
an
American
hip
hop
act from Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, which
were formed in 2011. The group is composed
of East Coast rappers Ortega and Dee Blake. The
two brothers will be taking over this months
issue of Presidential magazine following their
release
of
the
critically
acclaimed
mixtape ’Renegade’.
3. • Their musical style is based around old school New York
hip hop and psychedelic hip hop. Psychedelic drugs such
as acid and shrooms have a significant effect on their
musical style. The Flatbush area specialises in psychedelic
hip hop as other hip hop artists such as The Flatbush
Zombies, The Underachievers, Pro Era, Flying Lotus and
Joey Badass are all artists that represent the East Coast
and the drug influenced hip hop music. The pair admitted
that the drugs influenced the name of the act, as being
‘Trippy’ is the informal word to describe the effect
produced by a hallucinogenic drug. Ortega credits Snoop
Dogg (now known under the name of Snoop
Lion), Eminem, Notorious B.I.G and Kanye West as his
greatest musical influences. The group also significantly
listens to other genres of music, with Dee Blake saying his
favourite artist is Michael Jackson and has also admitted
he likes country artist John Mayer and French pop star
Stromae.

successful artists in the hip hop genre. Both are
tall, slick and sharp looking. The artists are set
