that enable the user to interact with a
computer, its hardware or perform tasks.
In other words, it is the set of instructions
that tells the computer how to respond to
the users of computers and control the
hardware.

It is the set of instructions that controls and
coordinate how the computer operates and
allocates hardware resources. Types:

that loads automatically and controls just
about everything on your computer.
Operating System (OS) controls the
computer’s hardware, runs Computer
programs and also organize files.
The OS also enable us to start up the PC

to help analyze, configure, optimize or
maintain the computer, its devices or its
software.
Examples of Utility software include:
Antivirus Software, Backup Software, Data
Compression Software, etc.

the operating system to communicate with
the hardware components of the computer.
It links devices to the operating system.
If a computer lack drivers to a particular
hardware component, the device will not
function on the computer.

Application software is the software /
program / set of instructions that is used by
the user to perform specific tasks or
operations on the computer
Application software is mostly and simply
called application.

on each other. Both of them must work together
to make a computer produce a useful output.
Software cannot be utilized without supporting
hardware.
Thus, if hardware is the 'heart' of a computer
system, then software is its 'soul'.
