When it comes to Green IT, businesses have been reactive. Interest in Green IT rises significantly when energy prices increase, and drops just as quickly when prices flatten out. This is typical of the ad-hoc approach taken by most organizations which has led to inconsistent results. This research will help organizations determine:
•Why Green IT is important.
•Examples of Green IT opportunities.
•The state of Green IT today.
•How to implement a successful Green IT program.
In this storyboard, learn how a strategic approach to Green IT and a longer-term commitment to sustainability can positively impact the bottom line.

Green IT - a Marketing Term or Sustainable Business, part 3MatsBerglind
The ICT industry is accountable for 2% of the global CO2 emissions. But can IT be an enabler to reduce the remaining 98%? This theme session presents case studies showing that it is possible, with the help of modern IT tools, to improve efficiency, track origin of raw material and help reduce the environmental impact.
I wrote this paper (16pg report) as a final capstone to complete my independent research requirement. This paper is a literary analysis focusing on many important factors for reducing power and environmental waste and adopting Green Computing methods in general and in regards to practically applying this information to a real world situation. This paper will take a look at several green initiatives currently under as well as future outlooks. The intention of this research is to inevitably gain a base of knowledge in order to develop a green plan for my department at Student Affairs Marketing and to educate our employees on what they can do to improve upon or impact in the ever growing field of green computing and discuss our options.
Along with the paper, I came up with a Green policy for my previous employer that they made a permanent plan. After all my work was complete, I had to present my research and findings to my class and the faculty of the department.

Controlling Corporate Energy Consumption via the Enterprise Network
A New Approach to Achieving Energy Efficiency by Leveraging Network Infrastructure
by Nicholas John Lippis III
President, Lippis Consulting
In April 2004, a bold experiment by the Infosecurity Tradeshow in London proved what everyone suspected, over 70% of people passing through Liverpool Street Station would reveal their password in exchange for candy (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3639679.stm). Some commentators applauded this validation of a previously unproven assumption about Londoner’s attitudes towards password secrecy. Other commentators had serious ethical concerns with the experiment.
This candy-for-password experiment got me thinking about health privacy/security experiments. Many suspect that the healthcare system has serious human and technical privacy vulnerabilities, but how can we validate this suspicion? Would a patient hand over their provincial health number for a chocolate bar? Would a medical professional hand over a patient’s information for a chai latte? The more I thought about it, the more extreme – and both frightening and funny – the research projects became.
After a journey through the history of spiritualists and homeopaths, and the magicians that debunk them, Chris reveals six tips for privacy officers to use when dealing with information security vendors and professionals.
My half of a tag team presentation for the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada ISACA chapter with renderman (http://www.renderlab.net), dealing with what is wrong with information security today. I, of course, was the suit. It looks like SlideShare bungled some of my slides. Click the download link to get the PowerPoint version.
For years security professionals have been telling us not to follow links or open attachments from untrusted sources, not to click “Ignore” on your browser’s security pop-ups, and not to insert untrusted thumb drives into your USB ports. Do you want to see what can happen with your own eyes? This lunch hour session will show you how to download, install, configure, and use the basic features of Dave Kennedy’s open source hacker tool, the Social Engineering Toolkit.
Another Hacker Tool Talk from the Fujitsu Edmonton Security Lab. This presentation looks at how to install and use Maltego CE v 3.0 for open source intelligence (OSINT) gathering.
With the advent of Google Maps, and other similar services, GIS became part of main stream digital culture. Now millions of Internet users, all with no formal GIS training, interact with spatial information on a daily basis. Sharing and collaboration involving spatial data has become a key feature of "social networking" and the "Web 2.0" movement. This presentation explores examples of how Internet users have colonized digital representations of physical space in order to express their identities online. Marshall Mcluhan said that people gave greater focus to their visual faculty, at the expense of our other senses, following the advent of the printing press. Understanding popular GIS holds part of the answer to the question: How is humanity changing as our attention is increasingly focused on imaginary spaces - even if the imaginary spaces are loosely based on real space?
Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

The UN Climate Panel said in a 2007 report that by 2020 cuts of between 25-40% subject to an international agreement, Australia would commit to a reduction of 25% from the 2000 level by 2020 (previously, there was to be a reduction of 15% Australian 2020 targets include a 20% of power supplied from renewables The European Union has committed to a 20 percent reduction by 2020, and says it will go to 30 percent if others also make strong cuts. Japan targets 25% reduction by 2020 compared with 1990 levels. US target is to be at 1990 levels by 2020 According to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC), developed economies must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80-95% by 2050 in order to avoid dangerous climate change. What does this world look like? New power sources, renewable, nuclear, clean coal? Cities? Transport? Work? Homes? Growth vs Sustainability or Growth & Sustainability? We are facing a Carbon Chasm – To cut emissions in developed economies by the required 80% by 2050, we need to see a minimum annual global reduction rate of 3.9% per annum. However, analysis of reduction targets from the Global 100 companies shows they are currently on track for an annual reduction of just 1.9% per annum. If we were all to continue on that trajectory we will not achieve the required reductions until 2089
6% is the same as the steel industry Data centre growth in demand. IDC analyst Michelle Bailey says US companies spent approximately $5.8 billion powering servers in 2005 and another $3.5 billion or more keeping them cool. That compares with approximately $20.5 billion spent purchasing the equipment. The cost and availability of electricity is emerging as a key concern for IT managers when building data centres, in many cases trumping such traditional considerations as seismic stability, purchase price, and quality of life for employees

Dematerialisation – the substitution of high carbon products and activities with low carbon alternatives e.g. replacing face-to-face meetings with videoconferencing, or paper with e-billing SMART motor - motor is “smart” when it can be controlled to adjust its power usage to a required output SMART logistics - The logistics of this vast operation (including packaging, transport, storage, consumer purchasing and waste) are inherently inefficient. For instance, vehicles often carry little or nothing on return journeys SMART buildings - The term ‘smart buildings’ describes a suite of technologies used to make the design, construction and operation of buildings more efficient, applicable to both existing and new build properties SMART grids - A “smart grid” is a set of software and hardware tools that enable generators to route power more efficiently, reducing the need for excess capacity and allowing two-way, real time information exchange with their customers for real time demand side management
