World population growth and the industrial revolution have contributed to increased demands on resources and greenhouse gas emissions. Some impacts of population growth include urban sprawl, increased transportation emissions, denser building and living arrangements, and more methane from waste. The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen significantly since the 1800s and is increasing at an even faster rate now. Global temperatures have risen over the past century and the top five warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998. Sea levels have increased 20cm since 1880 and are rising faster due to melting land ice and warmer ocean water from climate change. Achieving sustainability will require managing increasing demands on energy, water, food, land use, and waste, as well as influencing human
