Introduction For Argumentative Essay
Writing an introduction for an argumentative essay can be a challenging task, demanding a
delicate balance between engaging the reader and presenting a clear thesis statement. Crafting a
compelling opening that not only grabs attention but also establishes the context and purpose of
the essay requires careful consideration. Moreover, the introduction sets the tone for the entire
argumentative piece, making it essential to strike the right chord from the outset.
One must navigate through the intricate process of introducing the topic, providing relevant
background information, and seamlessly transitioning into a strong and concise thesis statement.
The challenge lies in presenting a persuasive stance without revealing the entire argument,
enticing the reader to delve deeper into the essay. It demands a keen understanding of the
subject matter, critical thinking skills, and the ability to anticipate counterarguments.
Balancing creativity and clarity poses another hurdle, as an overly complex introduction may
confuse readers, while a too straightforward one might lack the necessary allure. Achieving this
balance requires a thorough understanding of the audience and the subject matter.
In conclusion, writing an introduction for an argumentative essay is no easy feat. It demands a
combination of research, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. Crafting an
engaging yet informative opening paragraph requires time and effort, but the result is crucial for
capturing the reader's attention and setting the stage for a compelling argument.

Jean-Jacques Dessalines And The Haitian Revolution
Haiti s paucity of stable politics and basic human rights has been alarming in recent
history. However, the instability can be traced back to Haiti s colonial era, when it
was a trading port for sugar, cacao, indigo, and cotton. After Christopher Columbus
discovered the island on Dec. 6, 1492, Spaniards and the French occupied the island
(back then called Quisqueya), and enslaved the native Taino and Ciboney
populations. The disease and brutal work conditions led to the natives vanishing by
the 1600s. The French West Indies Corporation then imported over 5,000 slaves to
the island, and created plantations in which the colonists owned and the slaves
labored on. Due to the oppressive policies brought about to the slaves, there were

Feral Pigs Are Destroying the State of Texas
Imagine waking up in the middle of a warm Texas night to the thundering sound of
fences being annihilated by a cluster of swine, weighing in at a hefty 300 pounds
each and armed with razor sharp tusks. Within minutes, the rowdy pigs turn a
beautifully manicured lawn into a scene fitting of the apocalypse, a yard with
numerous piles of de rooted sod, broken fence posts and mangled bushes. In the state
of Texas, feralpigs are considered one of the most destructive species of animals
ever introduced to America. The amount of destruction feral pigs produce on a
yearly basis in Texas is alarming; almost half a billion dollars in damages to property
and crops are estimated every year as a result of the pigs actions. Feral pigs are
responsible for causing widespread agricultural damage, spreading diseases in the
food supply, and harming the state s ability to feed needy people with their meat.
Agricultural ranchers in the state of Texas have to deal with feral pigs on a daily
basis in order to keep them from tearing up the food produced by their crops. One
of the problems that are causing this to happen is poorly designed fencing systems
used to keep the pigs out of the crop area. In most cases, the pigs will figure out
ways to exploit weakened parts of the fencing systems and gain access to a feast of
forbidden fruits and vegetables. Some ranchers might create traps littered with food
bait in order to capture the wild hogs and have them processed for food. The issue

Essay On Death Coming Up The Hill Numbers
In the novel Death Coming Up the Hill numbers are everywhere in the war, and

person, but rather a number. Every week hundreds of people are killed in the
Vietnam and although Ashe couldn t // help looking for that / news article every
week (13), he still doesn t like to think about it. No one likes to think about it.
However, in order to get through it, you have to accept the reality for what it is,
even if it meant reading that huge number in the article every week. Ashe had to
know what was going on, and for some reason, the big number he saw every week
was drawn to him. Although numbers can be overlooked and dehumanizing when

When talking about deaths of soldiers in the war, there were 16,592 that died in 1968.
That is a huge and frightening number. Unfortunately, when people read that 16,592
soldiers died, they view it as number rather than each individual soul. This terrifying
thought can be so overlooked, and very few realize that every single one of those
numbers have a story. Similarly, Ashe s story and identity is represented in the
number seventeen. The New York Times magazine contained an small article

there a war in Vietnam, but it is happening at home too. If you look at the big

individual number and their story, there will be small wars. No one pays attention to
the small wars, like that shooting, which is why no one cared and it didn t matter. No

Positioning the Viewer in Frontline to Receive a Particular Version of Telling the

All composers of texts position the responder of that text to view their version of the
truth in different ways. In the case of Frontline, Rob Stitch and his team position the
viewers using a satirical documentary style approach to mock low brow journalism
and indeed real life current affairs programs. The easily accessible medium of
television encourages the responder to interrogate the events as reality and suggest
they are a dramatic reconstruction of events.
Through the documentary style on television the Frontline team position to viewer to

For example, in the episode We ain t got Dames the fact that Mike is presented as
such a fool undermines the credibility of the process of telling the truth. In the
episode, crude noises are put onto Mike s computer, with him unable to fix the
problem or stand up to Marty who did it. Furthermore, this foolishness presented
by the host of the program undermines the media s authority as an institution to tell
the truth. Even Mike s very appearance seems to be ridiculous, for example his hair.
Mikes hair is fashioned by hairspray to look perfect, which looks ridiculous. Craig
Reucassel and Chris Taylor who are presented as anchors on CNNNN are also
caricatures of real hosts. They, like Mike, exaggerate mainly gestures and on screen
reactions to stories to make them, appear to be sincere, yet at the same time exposing
the insincerity of the institution.
Moreover, media institutions can pick stories to determine their infotainment value,
or their usefulness to the people in power. This is most apparent in the Frontline
episode Smaller fish to fry where a big fish is presented to Mike Moore yet he
cannot chase it because of the interests of the station from upstairs. This is a
prominent example of a media institution choosing a news story because of the effect
it would have on the rich and powerful that controls
The History Of The Globe Theatre

Intro to theater
October 28, 2016
The History of the Globe Theatre Today we know of The Globe Theatre on
because of the famous playwright and director known as William Shakespeare. The
events which took place in The Globe s past and what is its future may be, have
become, and will be, an important part of the history of theater and drama. This paper
will discuss the history of the Globe theatre, the importance it held at its time, and the
importance of The Globe Theater now and in the future.
In 1576, during the Elizabethan era, James Burbage and a partner went to a
landlord, Giles Allen, to lease some land for a theater. Giles and James agreed to a 21
year lease in which James would be allowed to build his theatre known as The Theatre
. It was located north of the London Wall (Mabillard). Starting in 1596, when the
lease for the land for the theatre was due to expire, there were many legal issues
between the landlord and tenant. There were also disputes between those involved in
running the business. James Burbage died in 1567 and he left his two sons, Richard
and Cuthbert Burbage, his shares of the theatre.(Globe) The Burbage brothers took
an extreme action to protect their assets because, as a result of the dispute, they were
facing eviction. The landowner had hoped he would be able to acquire the theater
when the tenants left. (Shapiro) In December of 1598 while Giles Allen was away on
holiday, the Burbage brothers,

Exploring Kohlberg s stance on Ethical Relativism

Ethics in Contemporary Society | PHI101 A01

Introduction
Presently, Americans are comfortable relating ethics to individuality. Often times,
American citizens expresses their right of freedoms to enhance their own sense of
ethics or relativity. In defining relativism, moral principles are a matter of personal
feelings and individual preference. As for individual moral relativism, figuring out
what is moral and immoral in specific circumstances differs according to the person.
On another note, moral relativists have a disbelief in universal truths or common law.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it will review Kohlberg s moral stages of development and why he
believes that many cultural relativists are trapped in a particular stage. As a final
touch, this essay will discuss personal beliefs and experiences in relation to each
topic, and why I agree or disagree with these reasoning.
What is more moral relativism? Previously moral relativism was defined as being
right or wrong, and the second deals with the difference between an objective and a
subjective truth. Thinking that ethical truth is biased, moral relativists often react to
moral conclusions about homosexual behavior (Klikauer, 2011). To these individuals,
the term homosexual is rubbish because everyone s morality is equivalent. In short,
nobody has a right to a morality that is incumbent on others.
Being objective (individual) honest is recognized as the best choice; however, it is
not the easiest decision (Owen, 2011). For example, parents or educators do not
chastise students merely for getting their answer wrong in Math problems. For many
students, their mistakes would be coherent, not moral. Another example would be a
husband beats his wife is simply indecent; therefore, he is considered as being
immoral.
Based on Quintelier Fessler (2012) findings, cultural relativism is considered as an
interpretation that all views, customs, and ethics are comparative to the individual
within his or her own societal
The Market Entry of Starbucks into China
The final project is going to be about the market entry of Starbucks into China. This
project will focus on gauging the success of the company s market entry strategy
thus far. Starbucks has announced in a press release that it believes China will be its
#2 market by 2014, and the company has been one of the most successful American
companies in that market (Starbucks, 2012). The company entered the Chinese market
in 1999 with a store in Beijing. This followed the acquisition of greater knowledge
about Chinese business culture through outlets in Taiwan. The company initially used
a licensing agreement to enter the Chinese market (Starbucks, 2010).
Since that point in time, the company extended its presence in the Chinese market in
2000 with a different licensee partner in Shanghai. In 2002, a third partner was added
to help Starbucks expand into Shenzhen, two years after entering the Hong Kong
market. Using these three major markets as a base, the company expanded from
Shenzhen to Guangzhou and from Shanghai to Ningbo, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi and
Changzhou. By 2005, the company was ready to open its first company owned store,
in Qingdao, an area of the country not overlapping with the existing licensee
agreements. Over time, the company has increased its equity positions in some of the
joint ventures, and it has also opened more company owned stores, and even bought
back some stores.
This topic was chosen because of the wealth of material available on it. Starbucks is

Institutional Systems And The Selection Pressures Of...
There are various institutional systems that are part of our world. Population,
production, regulation, distribution and reproduction are all forces that create
potential problems that lead to the creation of institutional systems. In other words,
institutional systems are created because of the given selection pressures. The main
goal of any institution is to provide solutions for selection pressures, many of them
can even help to resolve multiple issues. For example, when it is needed to reproduce
biologically and culturally, the institution of kinshipaids to resolve the pressures of
reproduction. In the same way, when it is needed to regulate the individuals in
society, religion could help fulfill the selection pressures of regulation. Education, like
kinship, helps to reproduce culturally and also regulate the roles of individuals. Just
like these three institutions, the others also play a role in resolving other selection
pressures. Kinship, religion and education, however, will be the main focus of this
paper given that they are the institutions that mainly aid to the selection pressures of
reproduction, population and regulation. Kinship is the institution that resolves the
issue of reproduction (until the population gets large). As stated previously, a society
needs to reproduce biologically, social structurally and culturally. The explanation that
Turner provides for kinship is that it allows marriageand blood ties organized into
structures and mediated by
Analysis Of That s Humanism !
In the YouTube video by Stephen Fry entitled, That s Humanism! (Fry, That s
Humanism! ). The introduction of the video started with a question, How do we
know what is True? What s true through the use of evidence and science? (Fry, That s
Humanism! ). In response to blind faith, the scientific creationists substitute a
materialist definition of faith demanding that scienceconfirm scripture and scripture
confirm science, while simultaneously attacking the materialism of scientific
explanation (Aliff 2005). Faith without science is blind (Regier 2010). Regier stated,
There is a delicate balance between science and religion, without one the other will

In order to discover how the cosmos works, humanist believe that observation,
experimentation, and the testing of theories against evidence has the best track
record (Fry, That s Humanism! ).
How does the experimentation and testing of theories against evidence hold true
when some individuals experience a vision or supernatural reality of life after
death (Fry, That s Humanism! )? For example, in 1988, a former president of the
British Humanist Association, and a philosophy professor of logic at Oxford
University, AJ Ayer, had a spiritual experience of life after death. In Ayer s
supernatural vision he saw a bright red light, which he thought was responsible for
the government of the universe, after his heart stop beating for four minutes ( The
Humanist Philosopher Saw the Light Governing the Universe 26). Ayer was known
for his distrust of anything that could not be backed up by science (26).
However, after seeing an invisible reality when he was dead, Ayer s perspective and
conviction that there is no God all changed because he could not deny the truth that
other angelic beings govern the universe (26). We can safely conclude that Ayer s
mind was transformed and renewed to know that there is a perfect invisible world
beyond the reality of the human conscious (Rom. 12:1 3). Humanist

Muhammad Ali And George Foreman
Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Just the thought of these names and everyone
who has watched the historical film When We Were Kings (1996) has flashbacks
about Ali s achievements against George Foreman, how legendary the film and the
boxing match that it s based upon are, and the world wide, life changing events that
the film portrays about the two fighters. But there are some people out there, people
such as Rodriguez, who believe that the Muhammad Aliin the film did not portray
his real life self. That he was forced to say what a bunch of white writers put in
front of him to make their movie more appealing to people than historical by
showing the audience a fake image to gawk at and admire while the real admiration
is forced to be squelched inside Ali.
In order to be fair, we need to know the entire story behind When We Were Kings,
the fight between Foreman and Ali before we can say whether Rodriguez is correct
with his statement on Ali s performance. Now the history leading up to When We

One decade before Ali s famous fight with Foreman, Ali, world famous boxer who
had refused to stop boxing to fight in the Vietnam War, was stripped of his boxing
title, and was made to suffer a four year exile from boxing from the United States
government, was finally free to box again and made a celebrated return to the boxing
arena. After Ali had finished warming up after his prolonged break from boxing, he
joined in the competition to reclaim the Heavyweight title

Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim Essay example
Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim
To more fully understand Stevens poem The Idea of Order at Key West, one can
look at the ideas of the poem in context of social philosophical thought. Emile
Durkheim s theories on religion closely parallel those of Stevens. Both men believe
that there is no supreme greater being, or God, that gives things order and meaning.
But both men also believe that humans need to read order and meaning into the
world to understand it, even if the meaning humans imply is false because there is
no God. Since this aspect of both men s ideas is so similar, Durkheim s outline of
ideas on religion can form a model by which Stevens poem can be analyzed.
Furthermore, although there is no way to prove that Steven s ... Show more content on

Like Durkheim stated, the human mind better grasps things that are reflected
through symbols. Lines 18 20 of The Idea of Order at Key West state, Whose spirit
is this? we said/ It was the spirit we sought and knew/ That we should ask this often
as she sang. These lines express Stevens idea that humans long for explanations to
why things happen. In this particular poem, the explanation of the essence of the
sea is discussed. The people asking, Whose spirit is this? realize that there seems to
be a sort of external power (181), as Durkheim says, but cannot explain it. The
people see the sea is more than that, more than even her voice (36 37).
Because the sea cannot just be more, it has to be put in concrete terms, and Stevens
says that humans inevitably personify nature to put it in forms that they can
understand. Stevens personification is a different method than what Durkheim
suggests, which is that humans create religious projections of society and nature in
order to understand them. While these methods differ, both men acknowledge that
humans have to find meaning on a personal level of individual conscience.
Stevens supports that, in trying to make the essence of nature understandable, the
people in the poem inevitably personify the sea. It is almost impossible for humans
to see things in inhuman terms. For example, the sea has a body (3) and a cry

the Latino vote (Pew Research Center). With these statistics in mind, one can
conclude that there has been a consistent growing pattern of continued co operation
between blacks and Latinos at the national level. This is in complete contrast
however, to the mindset of some observers who believed that Latinos would not
come out in the numbers they did because of racial bias and because of the fact that
Obama received much less support amongst Latinos in the democratic primaries when
faced against Hilary Clinton (Hero Preuhs, p.3). Many people mistakenly thought this
to be so because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to several reasons. The first and most important reason is that both
these groups have shared the American experience as minorities in quite the same
fashion. For example, blacks and Latinos both faced internal colonialism. This is
why they have till this day been subordinate to the white race. As Cesar Chavez
once said, our separate struggles are really one. A struggle for freedom, for dignity,
and for humanity (Chavez, quoted in Hero Preuhs, p.10). For example, as
mentioned in the introduction, both blacks and Latinos have higher
unemployment rates than whites. Both groups are two to three times more likely
to live in poverty as whites. And finally, black and Latino students are more likely
to drop out of high school and less likely to score well on standardized tests than
white non Hispanic students (Hero Preuhs, p.10). And so this is the primary reason
as to why both blacks and Latinos support the same policy agenda which in turn has
led to the formation of coalitions between blacks and Latinos. For example, the
Rainbow coalition (led by high profile leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and
Cesar Chavez) became a common term for multiracial coalitions in American Politics
which advocated health, social, political, and economic policy benefits to alleviate
the disadvantages shared by both groups (Hero Preuhs). Some examples of landmark
policies that are important to that of blacks and Latinos

In the early 1940s, the world was drawn into another world war that pitted the allied
forces against both Nazi Germany in the European theater and the Japanese in the
Pacific theater. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the final straw that convinced the
United States to enter against both the Germans and the Japanese. With the two
opposing forces having most of their conquered territory right on the ocean,
especially the island campaigns of the Japanese, it became imperative for the
amphibious landings of the Marines to be perfected and two Marine officers were
tasked.
Evans Carlson, the son of a congregational minister, enlisted underage in the Army
during World War I. The young Carlson was somewhat of a rebel at home and was a

4. Understanding Performance Measures.
AC 4.1 Explain the relationship between business objectives and performance
measures
Explain the meaning of each of these terms with examples: Business objectives,
Performance standards, Performance metrics and Continuous improvement.
Business Objectives: Targets established specifying what needs to be achieved, by
when. The end result is most likely related to profit but the objectives will be
strategic plans for improvement, which will ultimately impact on profit.
Performance Standards: These are defined by management and set the expectations
for processes or services within the business. In the hotel, they are mostly linked to
quality and timeliness, but they can also relate to quantity.
Performance Metrics: Indicators used to specify if ... Show more content on

Also include in your explanation how the data from a performance measurement
system can be used.
A performance measurement system is used to track the success of the objectives
and to measure factors that create and add value (not solely financial). Performance
indicators need to be established to benchmark what constitutes positive performance
and reviewed to establish if changes need to be made for progression.
Business objectives (what we want to achieve) will form the foundations for the
measurement system since the performance required is to fulfil the objectives.
Performance standards (how we want to achieve) are the most difficult to measure as
there are not always quantifiable results. Timeliness can be measured, as detailed
above, with our time and attendance system. Quality is difficult to measure; it could
be measured via guest feedback/complaints but this may be subjective as it is based
on personal opinion and expectations. Financial performance can be measured
through accounting
Fast Food Industry Essay
The fast food industry has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the
suburbs of Southern California. The industry has grown from being a commodity
that worked to satisfy its customers efficiently to being filled with corporations that
are looking to make the largest profits possible. This has led it to be very involved
in political matters and along with the meat industry, it has a very strong hold over
foodpolitics. The effects of this on the American society have become noticeable,
with obesity rates skyrocketing and the overall health of Americans in a pitiful state.
It has also become a very significant in terms of the American economy, as it is one
of the largest employers in the nation, which has led to it becoming one of... Show

Customer health is completely in the hands of the establishment and standards must
be met in order to ensure the health of customers. Due to many loopholes in current
standard, it is easy for companies to take advantage of what is in their food. In order
to address public health for the better, many fast food establishments have made
public commitments to use only wholesome and healthy ingredients in their food.
The use of legally binding codes of conduct and ethics in fast food help to ensure
public safety and proper treatment of employees. Enforcement of these codes will
make for both a better image of fast food and receiving more trust from the public.
Over time, an easy scapegoat for consumers suffering from obesity has been fast
food itself. The great taste and relatively cheap price of fast food is claimed as
making it an attractive option to those with low income as well as the middle
class, to some extent. Fast food is a long term trend that is of high impact to
modern culture and living. However, it s hard to entirely place the blame on the
fast food industry in the ever growing epidemic of obesity. Although it can easily be
identified as a source for what is linked to obesity, it is more of a moral standpoint
where the decision to dine out falls upon the customer. Fast food restaurants have
gone far and wide to clean up their image, offering healthy choices, providing
information on their food s nutrition as well
Ellis Harris Narrative
Throughout the afternoon sessions, thankfully only two remained after Emily
Harris, the image of Ellis Harris lingered. He could still vividly envisage her model
features, the manner in which her perky young breasts strained the fabric of her shirt,
her luscious blonde hair, smile, youth. and, oh god, that ass. The perfect, tight
buttocks that flexed under the thin fabric of her uniform as stood, and which his gaze
never left until the office door had closed behind her.
When it had, Dr McHugh not longer attempted to stop the physical reaction her
presence had elicited, but embraced it. With Emily out of sight, where he could push
aside the sounds anguish in her voice, and the memory of her tear filled eyes, and
the reason she d been referred to him, The Doctor dropped a hand, and moaned softly

McHugh didn t get to witness the latter, and barely heard the door close, for as he
approached Beth, his attention was locked on her. Somehow she looked younger
than usual, more attractive, alluring. Like when they d first met. Hey baby. Ellis
unknotted his tie as he dropped into the seat next to Beth, and threw an arm around

the voice of God instructing him to peep into the next door neighbours window.

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates
It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and
suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the
hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)
Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in
Manhattan on a snowy day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of
poetry, with commentary about various poets and collections of poetries and how
they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets passionately enamored of T.S.
Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to memorize in high
school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of obtuse
others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her
thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to
stumble upon Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with
a commentary of how Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she
was normally seen. She was, at that moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but
rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed in selecting, leafing through,
pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until she reaches the
storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her being
here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the
Selected Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two
girl poets sharing their first kiss.

you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not
only to the main plot of the story (the girl poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the
Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets sharing their first kiss and
becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly through two sides:
that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is Monroe,

A good photographer knows how to use some little tricks to create a pretty scene,
and the good photographer knows how to use small techniques to build the mood
for the photo. Pretty scene and mood of the photo together create the meaning for
the photo, and they allure people to step into the photo. Some of the techniques that
used to make a photo looks pretty is the lighting of the photo, and the angle of that
photo. And some tricks that are used to create a photo are models, sand, fake fog,
etc. Photographer just needs a little bit of tricks to create a deep meaning of the
photo. The first photo shows a mysterious wardrobe that stands in the middle of some

and it does not present the sky bluecolor. Instead, the sky is cloudy and gloomy. It

He carefully uses his right hand to spill the fog around the wardrobe, and he uses his
left hand to hold on to the stone and adjust the wardrobe. Third photo shows a camera
in front of the model. Model is put on a table in the beach, and it is put under the

wardrobe is small. Then the photo is taken, and the first photo appears. Photographer

An Informative Essay On Wild Turkeys
The wild turkey is an animal most people have heard of because of hunting
reasons, but do you know the basic facts? The wild turkey species has 6 subspecies;
these include the eastern wild turkey, Osceola (Florida) wild turkey, Rio Grande
wild turkey, Merriam s wild turkey, Gould s wild turkey, and Ocellated wild turkey
.
These turkeys are different in color but are mostly the same because they are the
same species of animal. The wild turkey is dark in color, either brown, black, or a
similar color. Their wings are dark and are boldly barred with white. The rump and
tail of the animal are tipped with a rustic color or white. The final part of the
animal, the bare skin of the head and neck, are varieties of red, blue, or gray. Both
male and female measurements for the wild turkey species are the same. The
length is 43.3 45.3 inches. The wingspan is 49.2 56.7 inches. The weight is 88.2

Moral Dilemmas At The Yorktown Gym
Moral Dilemmas In the Workplace: Yorktown Gym Ethical dilemmas can arise in
any situation and they can happen in a group setting or an individual setting.
Workplace dilemmas can occur at any time and can appear as minor situations, or
they can be a more serious situation. In individual settings, ethical dilemmas may
seem more prominent and harder to determine what the right action to take would
actually be, because no one else is present to say whether something is right or
wrong. This is the situation in my case. I work at the Yorktown Gym for Robert
Morris University as one of the health club monitors, and during my shift, I work
alone. Because of the situation that other employees and I are in, we face multiple
dilemmas every time we work. While I would never actually give in to any of
these dilemmas, I face the dilemmas of lying about my hours, working out on the
job, and leaving work whenever I want. All of these situations go along with
ethical theories that explain why these dilemmas are right or wrong the reasoning
behind them. The first ethical dilemma that employees and myself face at work is
lying about our hours. To clock in, employees sign into a website and enter their
start and end times. At the end of the pay period, the times are checked off and sent
in to determine our paycheck. However, people switch shifts all the time so
employee s times are always changing. Whenever another employee or myself clocks
in, we could lie about the times that we were

Walking At Night In The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
In The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury, Leonard Mead is ostracized for walking at
night, to the extent of being arrested. This is symbolic of the ignoring and shunning
and even the legal troubles that those who go against the main idea purported in
society face. It is also symbolic of those that dare to be active thinkers in a passive
thinking world. The powers in charge in Leonard Mead s world believe that him

form of the police arresting him and taking him to a psychiatric centre. This ostracizes
the Pedestrianand makes him be seen as a social pariah. Leonard Mead also believes
that his society will ostracize him if they found out he was walking at night.
Seven Deadly Sins In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet...
From the beginning of time there has been the idea of God and the sins that God
has applied. There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises
wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out
lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers (Proverbs 6:16 19). The seven
deadly sinsare pride, gluttony, sloth, envy, greed, anger, and lust.
Pride is the excessive belief that one person has so much belief in himself and his
abilities, that it interferes with the person s realization of the grace of God. Pride is
also known for the excessive pride in one s achievements, or in other words, vanity.
Gluttony is to eat and drink more than one person requires. Sloth is extreme laziness
and not wanting to do anything.
Envy is the desire to have another person s qualities or abilities and this is very
sinful because it shows you are not happy with what you have and want what other
people have.
Greed is to get and keep more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kushite Art Style
Around the fourth century BC, the manufacturer and trader of iron led to the rise of
the Kush Empire. Kush Empire became a powerful trading center located near the
modern day border of Egypt and Sudan in northeast of Africa. In addition to
producing iron, the people of Kush traded gold, jewelry, pottery, and ivory. The
empire thrived for nearly a thousand years. During that time, the Kushite s developed
an advanced society, adopted some Roman style architecture and developed their own
written language. The Kush Empire also gave women more political power than most
other ancient empires. The art history of Kush starts with the Kingdom of Kerma.
The greatest art production activities occurred in the Napatan and Meroitic periods
(9th century BC to 5th AD). Unlike in other civilizations, most of art productions in
Kush were not controlled by governing authorities. Although stylistic differences
exist, Kushite arts maintain cultural solidity and unique identity. Unlike other ancient
civilizations, Kushite Kings did not practice absolute power. Political authority
involved the priests and militants, who traditionally nominated and determined royal
succession. With most Kushite sculptures, the faces are depicted with little
consideration for idealism . Art historians often refer to the brutal realism of Kushite

Cause And Effect Of Cyberbullying
Causes and Effects of Bullying
A bully is a person who uses their strength to intimidate another person. Bullying is
a major cause to homicides, suicides and youth violence. Both school bullying and
cyberbullying have increased significantly. In recent statistics one out of four kids
are either cyberbullied or school bullied. 77% of the children that are being bullied
are hurt mentally, physically and verbally. 14% of those children being bullied have
a severe reaction to the abuse. There are four effects from bullying and they are
psychological post trauma disorders, revenge, self destructive behaviors, and alcohol
or substance abuse. There are also various short term effects to bullying, low self
confidence, depression, suicidal thoughts, school problems etc...Adults will
sometimes think that the kids can figure out on their own. The truth is they cannot
figure it out on their own, they need support. While only one out of four children
report the are being bullied, these might be the children who receive help. Children
who are bullied and do not receive help might try to do something drastic. Bullying
is being widely supported , by talking about it and having campaigns for bullying.
There should be no school bullying or cyberbullying, the effects are hard to live with.
The cause of bullying may be because they want to feel superior to other children.
Some children may lack empathy and not care how the other child feels. These
types of children may feel pleasure seeing a child cry for help as they kick them.
They might also feel a sort of accomplishment after he bullies a child. Bullies
cannot see to control their emotions. When a person is angry or upset they can
usually stop themselves from doing something irrational. A bully can not stop
themselves and will simply overreact if a child would to bump the in the hallway.
Bullies feel the need to be in control and are driven to have power. The second cause
is that most bullies come from dysfunctional families. These bullies come from
families who do not show affection or openness. They witness their parents show
aggressive behaviors towards others and think it s okay. Home abuse can also be a
cause to a child becoming

Since most specialty procedures are inpatient services, EMC s inpatient occupancy
rate suffers. The occupancy rate for Emanuel Medical Center fifty percent is far
below that of its competitors and industry benchmarks. To accompany this, EMC

The best way of insuring enough magnesium is to eat a variety of whole foods,
including whole grains, nuts, seeds and vegetables, preferably food grown on

which is a molecule that contains magnesium. Avoid refined processed foods,
especially white sugar and white flour products, as most magnesium is removed from

The Success Of A Company
For rapid growth of a company, there is a need for good decision making on the
issues such as the culture of the business, staff hiring and spread of entrepreneurial
culture among others. During his lecture, the CEO of the BOX Company, he
reveals that the culture of the firm in all branches is essential to the success of the
business. Such culture includes hardworking, accountability, rapid acting and
collaborative culture. However for one reason or the other, CEO and managers
may find themselves making a poor decision. Below are various reasons that lead
to a poor decision in a company. Firstly, the tendency of relying on experience
leads to a poor decision in an organization. Some leaders base their action on the
previous success of failure. Just because one succeeded on the former act, it does
not mean it apply to the next act. For example, some managers tend to borrow the
ideas of the experience that seemed useful. Contrary, it does not always work that
way. The ideas may not work on the current situation. Similarly, it is hard for a
manager to transfer their success from one company to another even if one has the
track on the prior records of success. Secondly, is corporate politics in the business
premises. Some leaders are addicted to politics, and they tend to make their decisions
basing on the political motivation. Political motives are a hindrance to objectives
decision making and make it hard to manage tasks at hand. In most cases such
leaders get

Integrating treatment specialist staff such as psychiatrist can develop treatment plans
to treat both serious mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders so that the
population served, homeless women do not get confused going back and forth to
different mental health and substance abuse treatment programs. Secondly, the
mental health program will also implement clinical treatment integration. Integrated
clinical treatment specialists have an understanding about substance abuse disorders
and mental illnesses; there will also be an understanding how both disorders affect an
individual s way of functioning. The clinical treatment specialist s team is staffed as
nurses, Therapy and Substance Abuse Counselors and Case Managers. They are
trained in psychopathology, assessment, and treatment strategies for both mental
illness and substance abuse disorders. These skills are found to be effective in
treating individuals with co occurring disorders. These treatment specialists would
have experience with how short and long term substances affect people with co
occurring disorders. Regier, (1990) noted, 56 percent of people that has serious
mental illnesses have a co occurring substance use disorder within their lifetime.
Structuring the proposed mental health program to implement Therapy and Substance
Abuse Counseling to be in place to support dual disorder program is important.
According to Regier, (1990) Integrated treatment specialists with skills in

Abstract:
In the Dyes and Crimes laboratory experiment, the phosphorescence, fluorescence,
and chemiluminescence properties i.e. traits of several chemicals were examined
using (UV) Ultraviolet lamp. Observations on color, intensity, duration of glow, etc.
were analyzed to determine the traits of the several chemicals. Correspondingly, the
author of the unsigned note was determined through ink extraction, (TLC) Thin Layer
Chromatography, (UV Vis) Ultraviolet visible spectroscopy along with the Rf values
for of each individual sample of ink compared to the unknown: the ink of the author
on the unsigned note. Phosphorescence substances ... Show more content on

The dyes in the laboratory experiment are made of numerous colors, mainly red and
blue, the spectra from each of the dyes corresponded to the wavelengths obtained
from each of dye i.e. 620 nm for red and 450 nm for blue.
Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) works in relation to the polarity of chemicals.
A plate is first covered with aluminum foil or silica etc. and has solutions of varying
polarities placed upon the aluminum foil or silica. When placed in a in a puddle of
solvent that moves up the plate, the different inks i.e. the solution will move up the
place based on their Rf values. Adherence increases with increasing polarity, so the
less polar compounds will be carried farther by the solvent. Eventually the dyes will
separate into their compontnets, which can be visibly seen. This is then used to
determine who the ink of the unsigned note belonged to along with the pen that it
belonged
Culture Adopted By American Cowboys
The cultures of history can still represent what goes on today. ( David Crabtree) The
cowboy age is one of those cultures. Cowboys are hired workers for farmer. A
cowboy is a hired hand who helps herd cows and horses that belong to a ranch owner.
( Slatta , Richard ) A Cowboy s gear. The most important thing is a Cowboy s gear.
Cowboys got most of their ideas from Mexican cowboys called Vaqueros (Vah Kair
ohs). The hat comes from the big sombrero Mexican cowboys wore. The rope was
also adopted by American cowboys. Even Vaquero became buckaroo another
english word for cowboy. The cowboy also fashioned his wardrobe and much of his
equipment from cowhide. For example the hat kept snow , rain , and the sun of the
cowboys face. A coat would
General Concept Of Security Communities
General concept of security communities
In accordance to the global political theory, the idea of forming a security community
was initially established by Deutsch in 1957, with the dominant purpose of promoting
a sense of community that believes in the concept of peaceful change . In a further
elaboration, the emergence of such communities have integrated individuals in a
group, allowing social problems to be resolved effectively in a peaceful manner via
institutionalized procedures, without the reliance and usage of physical forces.
Security communities have been classified into two basic types, an amalgamated and
pluralist form. In an amalgamated community, there would be two or more
independent political states merged and form one large unit that is in charged and
governed by only one common government, such as the USA. On the other hand,
under the pluralistic form of security community, state members are also came
together for negotiation and discussion over political issues, but formally retaining
under a sovereign government, for example, the EU (European Union), the Canada
US and Mexico, and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). Base on
early postwar researches and analysis, pluralistic communities have been extremely
vigorous and success as the process of formation is considered to be simpler in
attaining and preserving than their counterparts.

Problem definition from Assignment 1
What is the operational efficiency of a solar powered UHF RFID tag?
1.Literature Review Exercise
Over the years, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) has evolved tremendously
overtaking all the other wireless modes of data transfer and identification
technologies. It has a huge advantage over the barcode technology, some of which
are additional information storage capacity, a line of sight detection is not required
and so on. Barcodes also have the disadvantage of being harder to detect during broad
sunlight or some other factors like being smudged or when printed on certain
substrates. (R.Want, 2006). Hence, RFID is used ... Show more content on

As a consequence, passive RFID tags are used for far field emissions.
Here we concentrate on solar powered UHF RFID tags which mainly help reader
independent operations like sensing, data logging, computation and other
functions. One method of powering passive tag by solar energy is by giving it as
a supplementary power source because it otherwise displays poor read ranges and
cannot run its own circuitry. Hence necessary DC power is derived from the panels
and converted to the frequency usable by the tag. This new signal is forwarded to the
tag antenna which when combined with the reader signal would increase the read
range. (Ferdous, Reza, Siddiqui, 2016)
Few other designs for solar powered UHF RFID mentioned in the conference paper
(Sample et al., 2011) are: RFID IC antennas have solar cells(powerfilim SP3 37)
incorporated on it will be a low cost reduced size structure. However, they are not
continually available and hence this design can only demonstrate the RF antennas
performance with no information about the effects of supply of a large amount of
power to a tag. The second design rectifies this drawback by using Intel Lab s open
source WISP 4.1 Platform. Unlike the first design, this one can expose the
unregulated power supply pin so to augment the tag s power source. However, the
read range is considerably small and because of the variation in the input impedance,
it will require a different antenna design. There are many evolving designs about

Gold Mining in Australia
When did gold mining begin in Australia? Gold has been rumoured that it was
found in Australian as early as 1814, however, the first gold fields did not appear
until thirty years later. Gold was found in Australia many decades before the
Goldrush. The first discovery of gold was actually in New South Wales, in May
1851 by Edward Hargreaves. In fact, this was a tentative start to the Goldrush. Gold
was commonly found only in New South Wales and Victoria in the days. How was
gold mined? (Now and then) Well, long time ago it actually wasn t mined, it was
panned. You had to search and find the right river to find gold. Then you pick a
spot along the river or stream with a slow current and a spot that has large rocks or
a fallen tree along the water s edge. Than you pick up your pan (metal in the day).
Then dirt and gravel in scooped into the pan and then submerged into the water.
The dirt and gravel will float, and because gold is heavier and denser it will say in
the pan. This process uses the density of gold and the force of gravity to separate
gold particles from other sedimentary deposits. Another common way in the day
was sluicing. The water washes down fine gravel containing gold so that it can be
directed into sluice boxes and recovered using gravity separation (where the heavy
gold is trapped at the bottom and the lighter sands are washed away). The world has
advanced and developed numerously. More sophisticated techniques have been
developed for gold to be found
The Traditional Functions Of Police And Armed Forces
2 The traditional functions of the police and armed forces
The main aim of security activities is to preserve the values of society against
external and internal threats, preserve the peace and freedom of the people and to
ensure the existence and smooth development of society (Bebler et al., 1999).
Perception of threats is crucial since threats generate the functions of the two most
important actors of the security system the police and the armed forces. Traditionally,
the police are expected to play the central role in policing that has a narrow law
enforcement and crime control or crime repression focus (Greene, 2000). Police are
therefore traditionally responsible for public order and safety maintenance, for law
enforcement, for intervention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Armed forces exist to defend the state against real or potential external threats and as
a coercive tool to promote and protect national interests abroad (Edmonds, 2006).
The core organizing principle for regular armed forces in a traditional way is the
defence of the national territory (Dandeker, 1994; Grizold, 1999). Therefore, their
traditional function is also deterrence and military attack.
Having in mind Bittner s (1970) definition of the police, which defines the police in
terms of their capacity to use non negotiable coercive force in any situation that
appears to require the prompt and decisive response, the policing is carried out by
several other organisations (constabulary forces), including military (Whetstone,
Walsh, Kelling, Parker Banton, Brodeur, 2016).
Enloe (1990) dealt with the differences between the traditional characteristics of the
police and the armed forces. She described the main traditional characteristics of the
police as follows:
the police usually do not perform their duties in other countries; they have personnel
located throughout the national territory;
the police operate in relatively small units;
the police are under the authority of civilian officials (local governments or ministries

The Use Of Mandatory Continuing Professional
Development...
The iconic journalist and one of the most trusted figures in American television,
Walter Cronkite once said that in seeking the truth, one must get to both sides of the
story [1]. It may be philosophically worded perhaps, but it is unequivocally true. As
such, the likely introduction of mandatory continuing professional development by
the PEO is a thorny topic that must be critically analyzed and scrutinized on both
ends of the spectrum. Those in support for continuing professional development argue
that practitioners get applicable training on the job and that certain concepts such as
ethics simply do not change and thus don t require a statue for mandatory continuing
development. However, others have an antipodal perspective, arguing that continuing
professional development should be mandatory to prevent loss of knowledge over
time and to allow members to keep at pace with the latest practices and procedures of
the engineeringprofession.
Perhaps the most convincing argument that those against continuing professional
development provide is that engineers get all the adequate skills training on the job.
This is most prevalent for new engineering graduates, that can spend up to two years
getting trained prior to starting the job. Take for example, Lehigh Hanson Canada
subsidiary of the building materials conglomerate, HeidelbergCement Group. New
graduates spend 24 months in a comprehensive program that provides on the job as
well as formal training [2]. To put in

North Americas Different History Essay
North America s Different History
The human history in North America I believe was very different than that of Asia,
Eurasia, and Europe. One example of why I believe that North America s history was
different is that the importance of a military force was far more important to the
Europeans than the Americans. The Europeans were so intertwined in their problems
of over population, poverty, and political order that the need for a military was
needed. The Americans did not have these problems right away.
The Americans were extremely busy trying to build a country from scratch and not
trying to revive a country from the hole it had fallen into. In addition, in Europe they
learned to domesticate there animals so there animals would not fall ... Show more

In Europe they were several kinds of plants for people to feed on like oats, peas,
olives, grapes, almonds, barley, oranges, lentil and millet. The diversity in there
diets also contributed in how Europe s growth was so fast. Before the Americans
discovered corn their diets mostly consisted of various meat. This in turn served as a
form of birth control because their women had to breast feed until their young had
teeth and were able to eat meat. This is also one of the reasons the American
population was so much smaller than that of Europe.
The Europeans spent some time developing technological advances like movable
items. This was not only an entertainment factor for them, but it was also used for
learning and education purposes. These books helped them to develop new ideas
through their culture. This in turn helped people loosen their ties to traditional beliefs
that so many thought were harming their country.
All three of these differences were drastically important to the international state of
affairs of the 1450 s. First, the Americans had barely begun the thought of using a
military force and the Europeans had a hold on the idea already. The Europeans
already had a force that was built with ships that was superior to the Americans. The
Americans were far behind and this was a big disadvantage. Second, the European s
brought with them many diseases that the Americans did not have and were not
immune to. These

Introduction For Argumentative Essay

  • 1. Introduction For Argumentative Essay Writing an introduction for an argumentative essay can be a challenging task, demanding a delicate balance between engaging the reader and presenting a clear thesis statement. Crafting a compelling opening that not only grabs attention but also establishes the context and purpose of the essay requires careful consideration. Moreover, the introduction sets the tone for the entire argumentative piece, making it essential to strike the right chord from the outset. One must navigate through the intricate process of introducing the topic, providing relevant background information, and seamlessly transitioning into a strong and concise thesis statement. The challenge lies in presenting a persuasive stance without revealing the entire argument, enticing the reader to delve deeper into the essay. It demands a keen understanding of the subject matter, critical thinking skills, and the ability to anticipate counterarguments. Balancing creativity and clarity poses another hurdle, as an overly complex introduction may confuse readers, while a too straightforward one might lack the necessary allure. Achieving this balance requires a thorough understanding of the audience and the subject matter. In conclusion, writing an introduction for an argumentative essay is no easy feat. It demands a combination of research, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. Crafting an engaging yet informative opening paragraph requires time and effort, but the result is crucial for capturing the reader's attention and setting the stage for a compelling argument. However, the instability can be traced back to Haiti s colonial era, when it was a trading port for sugar, cacao, indigo, and cotton. After Christopher Columbus discovered the island on Dec. 6, 1492, Spaniards and the French occupied the island (back then called Quisqueya), and enslaved the native Taino and Ciboney populations. The disease and brutal work conditions led to the natives vanishing by the 1600s. The amount of destruction feral pigs produce on a yearly basis in Texas is alarming; almost half a billion dollars in damages to property and crops are estimated every year as a result of the pigs actions. Feral pigs are responsible for causing widespread agricultural damage, spreading diseases in the food supply, and harming the state s ability to feed needy people with their meat. Agricultural ranchers in the state of Texas have to deal with feral pigs on a daily basis in order to keep them from tearing up the food produced by their crops. One of the problems that are causing this to happen is poorly designed fencing systems used to keep the pigs out of the crop area. In most cases, the pigs will figure out ways to exploit weakened parts of the fencing systems and gain access to a feast of forbidden fruits and vegetables. Some ranchers might create traps littered with food bait in order to capture the wild hogs and have them processed for food. The issue with this

The History Of The Globe Theatre Luke Hallfrisch Prof. Rebecca Thornberry Intro to theater October 28, 2016 The History of the Globe Theatre Today we know of The Globe Theatre on because of the famous playwright and director known as William Shakespeare. The events which took place in The Globe s past and what is its future may be, have become, and will be, an important part of the history of theater and drama. This paper will discuss the history of the Globe theatre, the importance it held at its time, and the importance of The Globe Theater now and in the future. In 1576, during the Elizabethan era, James Burbage and a partner went to a landlord, Giles Allen, to lease some land for a theater. Giles and James agreed to a 21 year lease in which James would be allowed to build his theatre known as The Theatre . It was located north of the London Wall (Mabillard). Starting in 1596, when the lease for the land for the theatre was due to expire, there were many legal issues between the landlord and tenant. There were also disputes between those involved in running the business. James Burbage died in 1567 and he left his two sons, Richard and Cuthbert Burbage, his shares of the theatre.(Globe) The Burbage brothers took an extreme action to protect their assets because, as a result of the dispute, they were facing eviction. The landowner had hoped he would be able to acquire the theater when the tenants left. (Shapiro) In December of 1598 while Giles Allen was away on holiday, the Burbage brothers,

Often times, American citizens expresses their right of freedoms to enhance their own sense of ethics or relativity. In addition, it will review Kohlberg s moral stages of development and why he believes that many cultural relativists are trapped in a particular stage. As a final touch, this essay will discuss personal beliefs and experiences in relation to each topic, and why I agree or disagree with these reasoning. What is more moral relativism? Previously moral relativism was defined as being right or wrong, and the second deals with the difference between an objective and a subjective truth. Thinking that ethical truth is biased, moral relativists often react to moral conclusions about homosexual behavior (Klikauer, 2011). To these individuals, the term homosexual is rubbish because everyone s morality is equivalent. In short, nobody has a right to a morality that is incumbent on others. Being objective (individual) honest is recognized as the best choice; however, it is not the easiest decision (Owen, 2011). For example, parents or educators do not chastise students merely for getting their answer wrong in Math problems. For many students, their mistakes would be coherent, not moral. Another example would be a husband beats his wife is simply indecent; therefore, he is considered as being immoral. Based on Quintelier Fessler (2012) findings, cultural relativism is considered as an interpretation that all views, customs, and ethics are comparative to the individual within his or her own societal

But both men also believe that humans need to read order and meaning into the world to understand it, even if the meaning humans imply is false because there is no God. Lines 18 20 of The Idea of Order at Key West state, Whose spirit is this? we said/ It was the spirit we sought and knew/ That we should ask this often as she sang. These lines express Stevens idea that humans long for explanations to why things happen. In this particular poem, the explanation of the essence of the sea is discussed. The people asking, Whose spirit is this? realize that there seems to be a sort of external power (181), as Durkheim says, but cannot explain it. The people see the sea is more than that, more than even her voice (36 37). Because the sea cannot just be more, it has to be put in concrete terms, and Stevens says that humans inevitably personify nature to put it in forms that they can understand. Stevens personification is a different method than what Durkheim suggests, which is that humans create religious projections of society and nature in order to understand them. This is in complete contrast however, to the mindset of some observers who believed that Latinos would not come out in the numbers they did because of racial bias and because of the fact that Obama received much less support amongst Latinos in the democratic primaries when faced against Hilary Clinton (Hero Preuhs, p.3). Many people mistakenly thought this to be so because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to several reasons. The first and most important reason is that both these groups have shared the American experience as minorities in quite the same fashion. For example, blacks and Latinos both faced internal colonialism. This is why they have till this day been subordinate to the white race. As Cesar Chavez once said, our separate struggles are really one. A struggle for freedom, for dignity, and for humanity (Chavez, quoted in Hero Preuhs, p.10). For example, as mentioned in the introduction, both blacks and Latinos have higher unemployment rates than whites. Both groups are two to three times more likely to live in poverty as whites. And finally, black and Latino students are more likely to drop out of high school and less likely to score well on standardized tests than white non Hispanic students (Hero Preuhs, p.10). And so this is the primary reason as to why both blacks and Latinos support the same policy agenda which in turn has led to the formation of coalitions between blacks and Latinos. For example, the Rainbow coalition (led by high profile leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez) became a common term for multiracial coalitions in American Politics which advocated health, social, political, and economic policy benefits to alleviate the disadvantages shared by both groups (Hero Preuhs). Fast food is a long term trend that is of high impact to modern culture and living. However, it s hard to entirely place the blame on the fast food industry in the ever growing epidemic of obesity. Although it can easily be identified as a source for what is linked to obesity, it is more of a moral standpoint where the decision to dine out falls upon the customer. Fast food restaurants have gone far and wide to clean up their image, offering healthy choices, providing information on their food s nutrition as well

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95) Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their first kiss. The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly through two sides: that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is Monroe, the realization that others could at moment s

Workplace dilemmas can occur at any time and can appear as minor situations, or they can be a more serious situation. In individual settings, ethical dilemmas may seem more prominent and harder to determine what the right action to take would actually be, because no one else is present to say whether something is right or wrong. This is the situation in my case. I work at the Yorktown Gym for Robert Morris University as one of the health club monitors, and during my shift, I work alone. Because of the situation that other employees and I are in, we face multiple dilemmas every time we work. While I would never actually give in to any of these dilemmas, I face the dilemmas of lying about my hours, working out on the job, and leaving work whenever I want. All of these situations go along with ethical theories that explain why these dilemmas are right or wrong the reasoning behind them. The first ethical dilemma that employees and myself face at work is lying about our hours. To clock in, employees sign into a website and enter their start and end times. At the end of the pay period, the times are checked off and sent in to determine our paycheck. However, people switch shifts all the time so employee s times are always changing. There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers (Proverbs 6:16 19). The seven deadly sinsare pride, gluttony, sloth, envy, greed, anger, and lust. Pride is the excessive belief that one person has so much belief in himself and his abilities, that it interferes with the person s realization of the grace of God. Pride is also known for the excessive pride in one s achievements, or in other words, vanity. Gluttony is to eat and drink more than one person requires. There are four effects from bullying and they are psychological post trauma disorders, revenge, self destructive behaviors, and alcohol or substance abuse. There are also various short term effects to bullying, low self confidence, depression, suicidal thoughts, school problems etc...Adults will sometimes think that the kids can figure out on their own. The truth is they cannot figure it out on their own, they need support. While only one out of four children report the are being bullied, these might be the children who receive help. Children who are bullied and do not receive help might try to do something drastic. Bullying is being widely supported , by talking about it and having campaigns for bullying. There should be no school bullying or cyberbullying, the effects are hard to live with. The cause of bullying may be because they want to feel superior to other children. Some children may lack empathy and not care how the other child feels. These types of children may feel pleasure seeing a child cry for help as they kick them. During his lecture, the CEO of the BOX Company, he reveals that the culture of the firm in all branches is essential to the success of the business. Such culture includes hardworking, accountability, rapid acting and collaborative culture. However for one reason or the other, CEO and managers may find themselves making a poor decision. Below are various reasons that lead to a poor decision in a company. Firstly, the tendency of relying on experience leads to a poor decision in an organization. Some leaders base their action on the previous success of failure. Just because one succeeded on the former act, it does not mean it apply to the next act. For example, some managers tend to borrow the ideas of the experience that seemed useful. Contrary, it does not always work that way. The ideas may not work on the current situation. Similarly, it is hard for a manager to transfer their success from one company to another even if one has the track on the prior records of success. Secondly, is corporate politics in the business premises. Some leaders are addicted to politics, and they tend to make their decisions basing on the political motivation. Political motives are a hindrance to objectives decision making and make it hard to manage tasks at hand. In most cases such leaders get

It has a huge advantage over the barcode technology, some of which are additional information storage capacity, a line of sight detection is not required and so on. Hence, RFID is used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a consequence, passive RFID tags are used for far field emissions. Here we concentrate on solar powered UHF RFID tags which mainly help reader independent operations like sensing, data logging, computation and other functions. One method of powering passive tag by solar energy is by giving it as a supplementary power source because it otherwise displays poor read ranges and cannot run its own circuitry. Hence necessary DC power is derived from the panels and converted to the frequency usable by the tag. This new signal is forwarded to the tag antenna which when combined with the reader signal would increase the read range. (Ferdous, Reza, Siddiqui, 2016) Few other designs for solar powered UHF RFID mentioned in the conference paper (Sample et al., 2011) are: RFID IC antennas have solar cells(powerfilim SP3 37) incorporated on it will be a low cost reduced size structure. However, they are not continually available and hence this design can only demonstrate the RF antennas performance with no information about the effects of supply of a large amount of power to a tag. The second design rectifies this drawback by using Intel Lab s open source WISP 4.1 Platform. Unlike the first design, this one can expose the unregulated power supply pin so to augment the tag s power source. However, the read range is considerably small and because of the variation in the input impedance, it will require a different antenna design. There are many evolving designs about expanding
  • 47. Gold Mining in Australia When did gold mining begin in Australia? Gold has been rumoured that it was found in Australian as early as 1814, however, the first gold fields did not appear until thirty years later. Gold was found in Australia many decades before the Goldrush. The first discovery of gold was actually in New South Wales, in May 1851 by Edward Hargreaves. In fact, this was a tentative start to the Goldrush. Gold was commonly found only in New South Wales and Victoria in the days. How was gold mined? (Now and then) Well, long time ago it actually wasn t mined, it was panned. You had to search and find the right river to find gold. Then you pick a spot along the river or stream with a slow current and a spot that has large rocks or a fallen tree along the water s edge. Than you pick up your pan (metal in the day). Then dirt and gravel in scooped into the pan and then submerged into the water. The dirt and gravel will float, and because gold is heavier and denser it will say in the pan. This process uses the density of gold and the force of gravity to separate gold particles from other sedimentary deposits. Another common way in the day was sluicing. The water washes down fine gravel containing gold so that it can be directed into sluice boxes and recovered using gravity separation (where the heavy gold is trapped at the bottom and the lighter sands are washed away). The world has advanced and developed numerously. More sophisticated techniques have been developed for gold to be found
  • 48. The Traditional Functions Of Police And Armed Forces 2 The traditional functions of the police and armed forces The main aim of security activities is to preserve the values of society against external and internal threats, preserve the peace and freedom of the people and to ensure the existence and smooth development of society (Bebler et al., 1999). Perception of threats is crucial since threats generate the functions of the two most important actors of the security system the police and the armed forces. Traditionally, the police are expected to play the central role in policing that has a narrow law enforcement and crime control or crime repression focus (Greene, 2000). Police are therefore traditionally responsible for public order and safety maintenance, for law enforcement, for intervention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Armed forces exist to defend the state against real or potential external threats and as a coercive tool to promote and protect national interests abroad (Edmonds, 2006). The core organizing principle for regular armed forces in a traditional way is the defence of the national territory (Dandeker, 1994; Grizold, 1999). Therefore, their traditional function is also deterrence and military attack. Having in mind Bittner s (1970) definition of the police, which defines the police in terms of their capacity to use non negotiable coercive force in any situation that appears to require the prompt and decisive response, the policing is carried out by several other organisations (constabulary forces), including military (Whetstone, Walsh, Kelling, Parker Banton, Brodeur, 2016). Enloe (1990) dealt with the differences between the traditional characteristics of the police and the armed forces. She described the main traditional characteristics of the police as follows: the police usually do not perform their duties in other countries; they have personnel located throughout the national territory; the police operate in relatively small units; the police are under the authority of civilian officials (local governments or ministries of
  • 49. The Use Of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development... The iconic journalist and one of the most trusted figures in American television, Walter Cronkite once said that in seeking the truth, one must get to both sides of the story [1]. It may be philosophically worded perhaps, but it is unequivocally true. As such, the likely introduction of mandatory continuing professional development by the PEO is a thorny topic that must be critically analyzed and scrutinized on both ends of the spectrum. Those in support for continuing professional development argue that practitioners get applicable training on the job and that certain concepts such as ethics simply do not change and thus don t require a statue for mandatory continuing development. However, others have an antipodal perspective, arguing that continuing professional development should be mandatory to prevent loss of knowledge over time and to allow members to keep at pace with the latest practices and procedures of the engineeringprofession. Perhaps the most convincing argument that those against continuing professional development provide is that engineers get all the adequate skills training on the job. This is most prevalent for new engineering graduates, that can spend up to two years getting trained prior to starting the job. Take for example, Lehigh Hanson Canada subsidiary of the building materials conglomerate, HeidelbergCement Group. New graduates spend 24 months in a comprehensive program that provides on the job as well as formal training [2]. To put in

  • 51. North Americas Different History Essay North America s Different History The human history in North America I believe was very different than that of Asia, Eurasia, and Europe. One example of why I believe that North America s history was different is that the importance of a military force was far more important to the Europeans than the Americans. The Europeans were so intertwined in their problems of over population, poverty, and political order that the need for a military was needed. The Americans did not have these problems right away. The Americans were extremely busy trying to build a country from scratch and not trying to revive a country from the hole it had fallen into. In addition, in Europe they learned to domesticate there animals so there animals would not fall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Europe they were several kinds of plants for people to feed on like oats, peas, olives, grapes, almonds, barley, oranges, lentil and millet. The diversity in there diets also contributed in how Europe s growth was so fast. Before the Americans discovered corn their diets mostly consisted of various meat. This in turn served as a form of birth control because their women had to breast feed until their young had teeth and were able to eat meat. This is also one of the reasons the American population was so much smaller than that of Europe. The Europeans spent some time developing technological advances like movable items. This was not only an entertainment factor for them, but it was also used for learning and education purposes. These books helped them to develop new ideas through their culture. This in turn helped people loosen their ties to traditional beliefs that so many thought were harming their country. All three of these differences were drastically important to the international state of affairs of the 1450 s. First, the Americans had barely begun the thought of using a military force and the Europeans had a hold on the idea already. The Europeans already had a force that was built with ships that was superior to the Americans. The Americans were far behind and this was a big disadvantage. Second, the European s brought with them many diseases that the Americans did not have and were not immune to. These
