2. What is Islam?
• Islam is an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion
teaching that there is only one God (Allah), and
that Muhammad is a messenger of God.
3. The messenger Mohammad
Muhammed (peace be upon him) was born in Makkah in 570.
His father died before his birth and his mother died shortly thereafter.
As he grew up, he became known to be truthful, honest, generous, and sincere.
At the age of forty, he received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel.
He spent 23 years in teaching people about Islam and its manners.
He died at age of 63.
4. The Holy Quran
• The Holy Quran is the last and final word of
God and a message to all mankind.
• It is a collection of 114 surahs
• The Quran deals with all the subjects which
concern human beings: wisdom, doctrine,
worship, transactions, law, etc.
• The basic theme in the Quran is the
relationship between God and his creatures.
• The interpretation of the Quran is available in
many languages such as English, French,
Spanish, German,… etc.
8. The five pillars
of Islam:
• 1. The testimony of faith
Saying with conviction “There is no true
God but Allah, and Mohammd is the
messenger of Allah”.
9. • 2. Prayer:
Muslims perform five prayers a day. Each prayer doesn’t take more
than a few minutes to perform.
10. • 3. Giving Zakat (support of the needy)
Giving a specified percentage on certain classes of needy people.
11. • 4. Fasting
Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from dawn until
sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.
12. • 5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah)
The annual pilgrimage to Makkah is an obligation once in a lifetime for
those who are physically and financially able to perform it.
