Course Description
INTR 101: College Success Strategies will provide students with exposure to a broad range of new ideas and
opportunities designed to bolster the individual college experience. This course will explore strategies that
students have found effective in enhancing their academic engagement and fostering personal
development. The skills and knowledge gained in this class will provide students with a foundation to
achieve their academic goals, to chart a path for future professional success, and to appreciate the value of
lifelong learning.
Learning Objectives
1. Learn and implement tools for academic success
2. Demonstrate how college success strategies will be used towards academic achievement
3. Discover and engage with University of Idaho resources that support student achievement
4. Reflect on and research academic methods for college and career success
Outside Resources and Media
Resources for this course will come from a variety of media: from academic journals, YouTube, personal
blogs, and academic textbooks, the resources were selected based in their ability to communicate the
application of college success strategies. Resources will be posted on BbLearn. Students are encouraged to
seek out additional resources. Integrating outside resources into your weekly reflections is essential for
success in this course.

Office Hours
Students are welcome and encouraged to schedule, and communicate, with instructor to discuss their
work, the course, and other resources available at the University of Idaho. The instructor will be available
through email Monday thru Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm. Emails will be responded to as promptly as possible
during those hours. The instructor will be available on Outlook Chat or Microsoft Teams on the days that of
regularly scheduled class, as listed in the chart above. Zoom video conferences or phone meetings are
available by appointment only. Any communication received out of these hours will be responded to the
next business day. Any times when the instructor is unable will be communicated through BbLearn.
Assignments and Grading
Class Reflections
Throughout the course, students will be asked to reflect upon the college success strategies that have been
discussed during the week. Prompts for the reflections are available on BbLearn. Weekly Reflections will be
due on Sundays by 11:59 PM. Reflections should be free of error and submitted through BbLearn and be a
thorough reflection of the course material.
Daily Deliverables
Each week students will be presented with material, and ask to produce, analyze, or engage with activities
related to each topic. These deliverables will be demonstrations of your understanding of that day’s
material. Instructions for each will be found on BbLearn in that week’s folder. All deliverables will be due
on Sundays by 11:59 PM.
Weekly Check-ins
Each week, students will be asked to check-in with the instructor through either a Zoom meeting, phone
call, email, or chat service. A phone call or Zoom meeting is expected for every other check-in. These
conversations will be about the course material, weekly reflections, and general concerns. The expectation
is that these will be conversation, which depending on format would include multiple email or chat
exchanges. The conversations themselves won’t be graded, but students will receive points for completion.
Check-ins are due by Fridays at 5pm. It is strongly encouraged to complete these earlier in the week.

Grading
Grading will be completed as promptly as possible. If there are questions, concerns, or
clarifications needed, please do not hesitate to contact the instructor.

Academic Integrity
This course hinges on student self-reflection, as such, students are expected to complete all their
own work. We will follow the University of Idaho policy regarding academic integrity. The
instructor will meet with students who are suspected of academic dishonesty and may refer their
case to the Office of the Dean of Students for possible disciplinary action.
Classroom Community Policies
Green Dot and Class Respect
A green dot is any behavior, choice, word, or attitude that promotes safety for everyone and communicates
utter intolerance for violence. A green dot is simply your individual choice at any given moment to make
our world safer. A red dot is any behavior, choice, word, or attitude that promotes violence. In this course,
actions that are violent, disrespectful, and/or disruptive will not be tolerated.
Names and Pronouns
All individuals have the right to identify their preferred names and pronouns, be addressed and referred to
in accordance with their identity and express themselves. In this class, we will have the chance to indicate

the name that we prefer to be called, and, if we choose, identify the pronouns with which we would like to
be addressed.

Campus Security and Safe Walk
Student safety on – and off – campus is imperative. Campus Security at the University of Idaho offers a free
year-round service called Safe Walk. A security officer will meet a student at a designated location and walk

INTR 101 06 Syllabus

  • 1. 1 INTR101-06: College Success Strategies, Late Spring 2020 – Online Instructor Contact Information *This syllabus is subject to change. Students will be notified in advance should changes occur. * Course Description INTR 101: College Success Strategies will provide students with exposure to a broad range of new ideas and opportunities designed to bolster the individual college experience. This course will explore strategies that students have found effective in enhancing their academic engagement and fostering personal development. The skills and knowledge gained in this class will provide students with a foundation to achieve their academic goals, to chart a path for future professional success, and to appreciate the value of lifelong learning. Learning Objectives 1. Learn and implement tools for academic success 2. Demonstrate how college success strategies will be used towards academic achievement 3. Discover and engage with University of Idaho resources that support student achievement 4. Reflect on and research academic methods for college and career success Outside Resources and Media Resources for this course will come from a variety of media: from academic journals, YouTube, personal blogs, and academic textbooks, the resources were selected based in their ability to communicate the application of college success strategies. Resources will be posted on BbLearn. Students are encouraged to seek out additional resources. Integrating outside resources into your weekly reflections is essential for success in this course.   • 2. 2 Office Hours Students are welcome and encouraged to schedule, and communicate, with instructor to discuss their work, the course, and other resources available at the University of Idaho. The instructor will be available through email Monday thru Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm. Emails will be responded to as promptly as possible during those hours. The instructor will be available on Outlook Chat or Microsoft Teams on the days that of regularly scheduled class, as listed in the chart above. Zoom video conferences or phone meetings are available by appointment only. Any communication received out of these hours will be responded to the next business day. Any times when the instructor is unable will be communicated through BbLearn. Assignments and Grading Class Reflections Throughout the course, students will be asked to reflect upon the college success strategies that have been discussed during the week. Prompts for the reflections are available on BbLearn. Weekly Reflections will be due on Sundays by 11:59 PM. Reflections should be free of error and submitted through BbLearn and be a thorough reflection of the course material. Daily Deliverables Each week students will be presented with material, and ask to produce, analyze, or engage with activities related to each topic. These deliverables will be demonstrations of your understanding of that day’s material. Instructions for each will be found on BbLearn in that week’s folder. All deliverables will be due on Sundays by 11:59 PM. Weekly Check-ins Each week, students will be asked to check-in with the instructor through either a Zoom meeting, phone call, email, or chat service. A phone call or Zoom meeting is expected for every other check-in. These conversations will be about the course material, weekly reflections, and general concerns. The expectation is that these will be conversation, which depending on format would include multiple email or chat exchanges. The conversations themselves won’t be graded, but students will receive points for completion. Check-ins are due by Fridays at 5pm. It is strongly encouraged to complete these earlier in the week.
  • 3. 3 Grading Grading will be completed as promptly as possible. If there are questions, concerns, or clarifications needed, please do not hesitate to contact the instructor. We will follow the University of Idaho policy regarding academic integrity. The instructor will meet with students who are suspected of academic dishonesty and may refer their case to the Office of the Dean of Students for possible disciplinary action. Classroom Community Policies Green Dot and Class Respect A green dot is any behavior, choice, word, or attitude that promotes safety for everyone and communicates utter intolerance for violence. A green dot is simply your individual choice at any given moment to make our world safer. A red dot is any behavior, choice, word, or attitude that promotes violence. In this course, actions that are violent, disrespectful, and/or disruptive will not be tolerated. Names and Pronouns All individuals have the right to identify their preferred names and pronouns, be addressed and referred to in accordance with their identity and express themselves. In this class, we will have the chance to indicate
