This document outlines a lesson plan where students conduct a fictional interview with a bald eagle. The lesson objectives are for students to understand the bald eagle's life cycle, diet, young, and habitat. Students will research bald eagles using computers to come up with at least 20 questions to pose to the eagle. Example questions are provided. Students will then type out the interview with questions and eagle answers, making sure to include facts about bald eagles. Their work will be assessed based on meeting criteria and including a bibliography.

1. Interview With a Bald Eagle
Introduction: Imagine it, you’re face to face with a bald eagle, it’s intense eyes beaming
at you, what would you do? Would you sit in silence? Or would you muster the courage
to ask the eagle a few questions? What’s that you say…. eagle’s don’t talk? Today they
do and you have the chance to ask them anything. What would you ask them?
Subject Areas: English, Science
Grade Level: 5-7
Lesson Objectives:
1) Understand the life cycle of the eagle
2) Understand their diet, young, and habitat
3) Be able to include facts about eagles into their fictional interviews
Materials Needed:
1) Computers to research bald eagle information
2) Computers for students to type out their interviews with eagles
Procedures:
1) Begin class with discussion about bald eagles
2) Explain to the students that they will need to come up with at least
twenty questions to ask the bald eagle.
3) Criteria on what all will need to be answered will be given out.
4) Criteria may include answering the type of habitat bald eagles live in, life
cycle, diet, etc.
5) Spend twenty minutes of 2 class periods letting the students research.
6) With a worksheet containing guidelines on what needs to be answered
by the bald eagle, the students may begin posing their questions.
7) Examples of questions for students to ask:
-What’s your favorite food?
-Who do you dislike the most?
-What’s your favorite activity?
-Where do you come from?
-Where is your favorite place to be?
8) After posing questions students will type their answers, which will follow
guidelines.
9) Along with typed questions and answers, a bibliography of the sources
students used should be included.
