CONVENTIONS
Lauryn Poutama
Usually, due to the rule of thirds,
the interviewee is never positioned in the
centre of the screen. He/she us
conventionally sat to the side of the
screen during the interview.
There is usually graphic
animation incorporated into the
interview that is relevant to the topic.
For this documentary during the
interviews animated
backgrounds are included of
oceans which relate to the
subject being discussed. This allows
the interview to follow the Mis En Scene
During an interview there is no
direct mode of address
towards the camera. The interviewee is
discussing/answering questions facing
the interviewer. This is a convention.
The questions are usually edited
out for the final product.
The use of A-roll and B-roll is
usually incorporated into interviews
when making cuts to allow the flow of
the clip to be seamless and jump
cuts cant be seen visually. For
example the A-roll footage would be
the interview and then it would cutaway
into B-roll footage like an animation of
some sort.
