IT is migrating to a new model of computing and business alignment that is not just about the cloud, not just about bring your own device (BYOD), but a new way of thinking about how the building blocks of IT are developed, purchased and assembled to achieve business goals. We will explore the great migrations in the IT world, starting with the new IT strategy (hybrid everywhere), expanding users’ expectations (going beyond instantaneous), new technology models (software defined computing), defining new core building blocks, (everything has to be a platform) and how selling to IT will change (re-definable value vs. ROI positioning). During this presentation, we will look beyond the hype curve and buzzword compliance to identify the most influential IT migrations that will change the way we work, partner and profit for the next decade.

"FCoE vs. iSCSI - Making the Choice" from Interop Las Vegas 2011Stephen Foskett
The notion that Fibre Channel is for data centers and iSCSI is for SMB’s and workgroups is outdated. Increases in LAN speeds and the coming of lossless Ethernet position iSCSI as a good fit for the data center. Whether your organization adopts FC or iSCSI depends on many factors like current product set, future application demands, organizational skill-set and budget. In this session we will discuss the different conditions where FC or IsCSI are the right fit, why you should use one and when to kick either to the curb.
The City of Pforzheim in Germany modernized its data center using virtualization with VMware and Cisco hardware, achieving server consolidation and cost savings. It further simplified its environment by converging LAN and storage traffic onto a single Ethernet fabric using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). After successful testing of 10GBASE-T with FCoE using Cisco Nexus 2000 Series fabric extenders and Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapters, Pforzheim plans to deploy this lower cost solution to better support its virtualized infrastructure.
Converged Networks: FCoE, iSCSI and the Future of Storage NetworkingStuart Miniman
FCoE allows Fibre Channel traffic to run over Ethernet networks using encapsulation. This convergence of networks simplifies infrastructure by using a single network for both storage and LAN traffic. Standards like FCoE and DCB/CEE are being developed to enable lossless Ethernet environments required for storage traffic. Early solutions involve direct server attachment to top-of-rack FCoE switches, but solutions are expanding to include blade servers and multi-hop configurations. Widespread adoption will take time as standards mature and solutions expand beyond proof-of-concept deployments.

Using NetFlow to Improve Network Visibility and Application PerformanceEmulex Corporation
Network and application performance issues can cost your business millions of dollars in lost revenue and productivity. Without persistent, real-time visibility of the infrastructure, Network Operations teams lack the information to predict potential business disruption and prove network and application performance.
Join us on November 6 at 7:00 a.m. PT and hear from Lee Doyle, Principal Analyst at Doyle Research, about the solutions to today’s performance visibility challenges, including:
•Trends affecting traffic visibility, such as application mobility, network upgrades, and data center virtualization and consolidation
•Best practices for managing Quality of Service and reducing failure scenarios
•Critical criteria to consider when selecting performance management solutions
In addition, hear from Richard Trujillo (Emulex Product Marketing) and Scott Frymire (SevOne Product Marketing) how the joint deployment of the Emulex EndaceFlow™ 3040 NetFlow Generator Appliance and SevOne’s Network Performance Management solution lowers time to resolution by reliably monitoring the makeup of the traffic traversing your most critical links.
Using Network Recording and Search to Improve IT Service DeliveryEmulex Corporation
For organizations that depend critically on their network to provide services to both internal and external customers, understanding why quality of service issues occur is critical. An emerging tool in Network Performance Management and Diagnostics (NPMD) is network recording and search, which allows network operations (NetOps) staff to identify issues in service and application delivery.
Finding the right data (whether packets, netflows, or otherwise) to understand why your application is underperforming is often like finding a needle in a haystack. In most cases, you have to find exactly the right set of packets to understand why you have a service performance issue or a service failure. As organizations move from 1Gb Ethernet to 10Gb Ethernet to 40/100Gb Ethernet (1GbE, 10GbE, 40/100GbE), the “amount of hay” is increasing by orders of magnitude. However, most network recording and search devices on the market today cannot keep up with data rates beyond a few gigabits per second, and have to “sample” the network traffic. In this context, selecting the right network recording and search device means the difference between understanding and resolving your problem quickly, and spending days or weeks trying to randomly capture the right packets.
In this webinar, we’ll explore the different options that organizations have for recording and mining network traffic to identify and resolve ITSM issues. We'll explore what matters most when your applications fail, and share some best-practice insights gleaned from working with customers that run some of the largest and most critical data networks on the planet.
Introducing Endace Packets - EndaceVision™ with Protocol DecodesEmulex Corporation
This document discusses the challenges network analysts face in investigating issues at 10GbE network speeds. It outlines how traditional tools like Wireshark struggle with the volume of data at high speeds. The document then introduces EndaceVision and Endace Packets as a solution, which leverages purpose-built hardware for 100% accurate network recording at 10GbE speeds and faster protocol decoding. It argues these tools allow analysts to more effectively search, filter, and drill down into precise packets of interest when troubleshooting complex network issues.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on BlockchainClaudio Di Ciccio
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
