The Internet of Things (IoT) conceptualizes the idea of remotely connecting and
monitoring real-world objects (things) through the Internet. When it comes to our house, this
concept can be aptly incorporated to make it smarter, safer, and more automated. This IoT
project focuses on building a “SMART HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM” which is mainly
concerned to design a system that allows users, upon authentication, to remotely control and
monitor multiple home appliances using a cellphone-based interface. The leverage obtained
by preferring this system over similar kinds of existing systems is that the alerts and the status
sent by the Wi-Fi-connected microcontroller managed system can be received by the user on
his phone from any distance irrespective of whether his mobile phone is connected to the
internet and an onboard Wi-Fi shield making use of which all the electrical appliances inside
the home can be controlled and managed. By using this we can switch on or off the lights or
fans automatically when we are outside. This proposes a smart home automation system
based on the Open-source cloud server and a low-cost esp8266 Wi-Fi module.

6. INTRODUCTION TO IoT
6
Anyone who says that the Internet has fundamentally changed society may be
right, but at the same time, the greatest transformation actually still lies ahead
of us. Several new technologies are now converging in a way that means the
Internet is on the brink of a substantial expansion as objects large and small
get connected and assume their own web identity.
Following on from the Internet of computers, when our servers and personal
computers were connected to a global network, and the Internet of mobile
telephones, when it was the turn of telephones and other mobile units, the
next phase of development is the Internet of things, when more or less
anything will be connected and managed in the virtual world.
7. INTRODUCTION (Contd…)
7
Smart connectivity with existing networks and context-aware computation using
network resources is an indispensable part of IoT. With the growing presence of Wi-Fi
and 4G-LTE wireless Internet access, the evolution towards ubiquitous information
and communication networks is already evident. However, for the Internet of Things
vision to successfully emerge, the computing paradigm will need to go beyond
traditional mobile computing scenarios that use smartphones and portables and evolve
into connecting everyday existing objects and embedding intelligence into our
environment.
For technology to disappear from the consciousness of the user, the Internet of Things
demands a shared understanding of the situation of its users and their appliances,
software architectures and pervasive communication networks to process and convey
the contextual information to where it is relevant, and the analytics tools in the
Internet of Things that aim for autonomous and smart behavior.

based on Internet of Things”, International Journal of
Engineering Research & Technology, Volume No. 10, Issue
No. 11, 2278-0181, 2022.
This system represents a step-by-step procedure for a
smart home automation controller. It uses IoT to convert home
appliances to smart and intelligent devices, with the help of
design control. An energy-efficient system is designed that
accesses the smart home remotely using IoT connectivity. The
proposed system mainly requires, To ensure, that the Wi-Fi
connection does not turn off, the main controller is
programmed to establish an automatic connection with the
available network and connected to the auto power backup.

This paper focuses on the construction of a fully functional
voice-based Home automation system that uses the Internet of
Things, Artificial Intelligence, and Natural Language Processing
(NLP) to provide a cost-effective, implements seamless integration
of all the appliances to a central console, i.e. the mobile device. The
appliances are connected to the mobile device through an Arduino
Board that establishes the concept of the Internet of Things.

14. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
The experimental model was made according to the circuit diagram and the
results were as expected. As shown in figure 1. The home appliances could be
remotely switched over the Wi-Fi network. Both the switch mode and the voice
mode control methodologies were successfully achieved. The Blynk application was
also successful in displaying the status of every application.

CONCLUSION
The “IOT BASED HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM”
project has been successfully designed and tested. Integrating
features of all the hardware components used has developed it.
The presence of every module has been reasoned out and
placed carefully thus contributing to the best working of the
unit. In the past decades, microprocessor-based embedded
systems ruled the market. The last decade witnessed the
revolution of Microcontroller based embedded systems. About
the requirements gathered the manual work and the
complexity of counting can be achieved with the help of
electronic devices.
15
16. FUTURE SCOPE
Looking at the current situation we can build a
cross-platform system that can be deployed on various
platforms like iOS, and Windows. The limitation to
control only several devices can be removed by
extending the automation of all other home appliances.
The project can be expanded to many areas by not
restricting to only homes, but too small offices.
