2. Although the first Welsh emigrants to Australia may have wished that
they could find a better life than the one they had experienced in
Wales, they were probably just as keen to escape Australia.
They were not really emigrants at all, but convicts-four men and two
women, who arrived with the First Fleet at Botany Bay, Australia ,in
1788.
Many who were transported could speak only Welsh. Thay often unable
to communicate the majority of convicts who spoke only English.
New South Wales is, predictibly,the area which most immigrants
settled from wales with place name such as cardiff,Swansea,Neath
and Aberdare among many others.

The influence that many of the Welsh immigrants had
the modern America is very small.
America presidants with routes from Wales include
Thomas Jefferson (whose family came from a village
beneath Snowdon), James Monroe, Abram Lincoln, and
more recent Calvin Coolige and Richard Nixon.

4. The new choice for emigrating in 1050s was Patagonia,
Argentina. The first group of settlers, about 150 people
gathered from all over Wales, sailed from Liverpool to
Patagonia aboard the tea-clipper Mimosa, landing in New
Bay (Port Madryn) on July 1865.
Unfortunately, they found that Patagonia was not the
friendly and inviting land. They had been told that it was
much like lowland Wales, but there was no water, very little
food and no avalible shelter.
Many decided to move to other areas to try their luck.
Some of the settlers went back to Wales as well as the
United States.
Over 500 people from Wales – mostly from the south Wales,
which was undergoing a lack of money. By 1876, the
population numbered 690.
