The Berlin period • Meyer resigned in 1930and was replaced byLudwig Mies Van der Rohe, famous for his saying “lessis more”. • Mies Van der Rohe impressedthe school with a strictlydisciplinarycharacter, more focused on architecture. • Mies transfer the school toBerlin in 1930,operating on a smaller scale. The teachers of Bauhaus • During the war some vacancies occurred on the staffs of the two schools (the Academy of Pictorial Art and the Academy of Artsand Crafts) which Gropius later united in the Bauhaus. • This enabled him tohave three masters appointed atthe very beginning: 1. Concept While teaching at the Bauhaus, Breuer often rode a bicycle, a pastime that led him towhat is perhaps the single most important innovation in furniture design in the twentieth century: the use of tubular steel. The tubular steel of his bicycle’s handlebars was strong and lightweight, and lent itself tomass-production.     The Berlin period •Meyer resigned in 1930and was replaced byLudwig Mies Van der Rohe, famous for his saying “lessis more”. • Mies Van der Rohe impressedthe school with a strictlydisciplinarycharacter, more focused on architecture. • Mies transfer the school toBerlin in 1930,operating on a smaller scale.
