" Khushwant Singh, one of India's literary giants, called the
'Kohinoor' amongst Indian languages. It is a very expressive language as for as Poetry is concerned, and is the soul of the Ghazals and Nazms often used by the Indian Film industry.
There is currently a great interest in Urdu Poetry but sometimes it is difficult to understand the full meaning of the verse. We are publishing this book to make this possible for poetry lovers, and hope you will enjoy it.
This book is published in the memory of our father, Kanwar mohinder Singh Bedi 'Sehar' [1902 - 1992], who was himself a well known Urdu poet and scholar."

MASNAVI: “QUDSIA MAHAL”
This Masnavi (a story in poetic form), “Qudsia Mahal,” is written by my uncle and renowned writer of the Indian Film Industry, (the late) Mr. Vajahat Mirza Changezi.
This Masnavi is based on the historical facts surrounding Badshah Naseeruddin Haider and his wife Qudsia Mahal. According to Mirza Sahab, the purpose of this Masnavi is to preserve those archaic words and phrases (proverbs), which were still colloquially use till the early 20th century. It was not possible to write these words and phrases in any other form of Urdu Poetry, other than as a Masnavi.
It has taken a number of years to compose and revise this Masnavi, it involved editing, by hand, with an Urdu calligraphy pen. The final copy of this Masnavi was carried by Mirza Sahab to Karachi. This PDF is a scanned copy of his original hand written manuscript; it has 2414 Ashaar (couplets).
Beside some Ashaar in the manuscript are (X) or (C) marks. These indicate Ashaars, that he had either deleted or changed in the final copy.
Mr. Vajahat Mirza had penned many cinema classics such as Gunga Jamna, Mother India, Moghul e Azam, Kohinoor, Love and God, Shikast, Leader, Yahudi, Aurat, and Roti etc.
Expressing his grief over Mirza Sahab’s passing, thespian Dilip Kumar, talking to Screen Weekly , said “It was sad to learn the news about the death of this prolific writer with a mastery of pen on varied styles of language and dialogue writing. I had a close association with Mirza Saheb who wrote 'Kohinoor' and 'Ganga Jumna'. The remarkable thing about him was that he wrote with great ease and had a penchant for charecterisation and dramatic thrust. In 'Ganga Jumna', the rural Bhojpuri idioms in dialogue writing was the exclusive work of Mr. Mirza's pen. In him we have lost a remarkably talented writer who was never put to a suitable and full use."
Veteran writer, Ali Raza, paying his tribute said, “Vajahat Mirza taught what screenplay writing was to many writers of his time. He was also a great poet but his collection remained unpublished."
While leaving for Karachi, Mirza Sahab had given two complete scripts to our family, which we have got registered with the Film Writers Association:
1 - Indersabha ( Paristan)
2 - Sham e Awadh
A collection of his religious poetries has already been typed and will be published soon, Insha'allah. In the end of this book I have included our Shajrah (or family tree) originating from the great Changez Khan . We hope that the lovers of Urdu Classical Poetry will appreciate his work and pray for his soul to rest in peace in heaven, Aameen.

Ali Arshad Mir (Urdu: علی ارشد میر, January 1, 1951 – October 16, 2008) was an epic Punjabi poet and writer, sometimes described as the "Homer of Punjab".[1] His works have been translated into languages such as Urdu and English. In the 1970s, his International Anthem brought him recognition. Its lines, Girti hui dewaar ko aik dhaka aur do (Urdu: گرتی ہوئی دیوار کو ایک دھکا اور دو) are a popular slogan in the Punjab. His work includes dozens of poems that depict the socio-economic condition of society's oppressed people. They also highlight the sacrifices of the subcontinent's resistance movements.

Ziyarat e Nahiya (Manzoom) - Mirza Salamat Ali Dabeer*Jamal Mirza
Of the several prescribed Ziyarat of Imam al-Husain (PBUH), one was recited by Imam al-Mahdi (PBUH) and reached us through one of his four special deputies. For that reason, it is known as the Ziyarat that was issued from the sacred side (Ziyarat al-Nahiya al-Muqaddasa).
One of the most important features of this Ziyarat is that in different phrases, Imam al-Mahdi (PBUH) graphically describes the events of Ashura and the agony that Imam al-Husain (PBUH) and his family faced on that horrific and ominous day.
The text of the Ziyarat al-Nahiya is found in some early Ziyarat collections such as al-Mazar al-Kabir, by Muhammad Ibn Ja’far al-Mash’hadi, pp. 496-513. It is also reported in al-Mazar, by al-Mufid as mentioned in Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 98, pp. 318-329.

One day, a heated discussion went on among the Arabs and Muslims during which it was said that there is no alphabet that recurs in speech more often than the "alif" ("A"). All attendants agreed. It was then that the magnificent lantern of language, its deep ocean and precise philosopher, namely Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (ع) stood up and delivered a lengthy sermon which included praise of Allah Almighty, prayers and salutations unto His Prophet, Muhammed ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib (peace and blessings of Allah be with him and his progeny). The statements of the entire sermon, from beginning to end, did not contain a single word having the "alif"

Hazrat Paighamber e Islam (saww) ko Khaliq ne johar e fasahat meiN imtiyazi martaba ataa farmaya, jise aapne khud apne eik jumle meiN iss ke donoN pahluoN meiN ek saath numayaN farmaya hai: " Qureish meiN se honEy ke alawa maiN tamam uss qaum meiN jo harf e zaad ka talaffuz jaanti hai (Arab) sab se zyada faseehul lisaan hooN."
Aurat aur Islam - Syedul Ulema Syed Ali Naqi Naqvi Sahab t.s.Jamal Mirza
Aurat aur Islam:
" Mauzue kalaam 'Aurat aur Islam' hai, aur yeh ke Shariyate Islam meiN aurat ka kya maqam hai. Shariyat mutabiqe fitrat hai, to zaroori hai ke mard ke liye aise ahkam hoN jo uski mardana shaan ke munasib hain, aur aurat ke liye woh ahkam hoN jo uski nisaiyat ke liye mauzooN hoN. Mard, aurat ke sifaat haasil kar le to uska kamaal nahiN balke nuqs hai, isi tarah aurat, mard ke ausaaf hasil kar le to yeh uska kamaal na hoga, balke nuqs hoga. Iss liye ke mard aur aurat ko fitrat ne zaujain ki surat meiN paida kiya hai. Zaujain woh do cheezeiN haiN jin ka ejtema' kisi maqsade wahid ki takmeel ke liye zaroori hai. Jaise eik darwaze ke do pat ya maujooda daur ke munasib misaal bijli ke manfi aur musbat taar."
"Woh aakhir kaar aane waala kaun? Jiska shohra pahle se tha, jiska awaza har daur ki faza meiN gooNj raha tha, jiska intezar wajood ke pahle hua, jo wajood ke baad bhi Muntazar raha, jiska intezar Isa ko charkhe chaharum par, millat e Islam ko duniya meiN hai. Shariyat ko uska intezar ke woh aaey to zinda ho, Islam ko uska intezar ke woh aaey to ghalib ho, haq ko uska intezar ke woh aaey to zahir ho, duniya ko uska intezar ke woh aaey to adl o insaf se mamlu ho.
Jaise Rasool (saww) ke aane ki peshiingoiyan tamam Rasoolane ma'salaf deite rahe aur apni ummatoN ko muntazir banaate rahe, waise hi Imam (a.s.)ke aane ki peishingoi Rasool (saww) aur unke baad ke 11 Imam a.s. farmate rahe, aur har zamane waloN ko basharateiN deite rahe. Rasool (saww) ki bayan ki hui peishingoiyaN Islam ke donoN fareeq Shia wa Sunni ki kitaboN meiN mutTafeqa haisiyat se darj haiN."

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. THE URDU LANGUAGE.
Urdu is the most delightful language for expressions of
Love and the happiness, disappointment, sorrow and other
emotions that go with it.
Since it is written in Persian script people carry the
impression that it is a foreign language. This is not so. This
language was originally developed by Indian natives
speaking Brij Bhasha who came into continuous contact with
Moghul army’s camps during their rule. This contact and
communication lead to the development and recognition of
Urdu as a language, and it can be safely said that Urdu was
born and nurtured in Delhi as a purely Indian language.
However since Persian was the script of the ruling Moghul
Royalty Urdu got written and recorded in their script. Later it
became the principal native language for the British
Government’s usage till Partition, and is still one of the
recognized languages of our independent India.
Khushwant Singh, one of India’s literary giants, called
Urdu the “Kohinoor” amongst Indian languages. It is a very
expressive language as for as Poetry is concerned, and is
the soul of the Ghazals and Nazams often used by the Indian
Film industry. Today India has more recognized Urdu poets
than any other country. People still regularly hold Urdu poetry
Mushairas particularly in the northern part of our Country.
Dedicated TV channels are beamed all over the country for
Urdu poetry lovers which have a great following.
In fact there have been requests , both from Hindu and
Muslim scholars, that Urdu should also be written in Hindi
script. The language that most of us speak is Hindustani, is a
blend of Hindi and Urdu languages, where many words from
each have been accepted and used by the other.
There is currently a great interest in Urdu poetry but
sometimes it is difficult to understand the full meaning of the
verse. We are publishing this book to make this possible for
poetry lovers, and hope you will enjoy it.
This book is published in the memory of our father,
Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi “Sehar” [1909—1992] , who
was himself a well known Urdu poet and scholar.

6. Kr. Mohinder Singh Bedi—Prince and the Poet
Some years ago, I was attending a Seminar on Allama Iqbal
at the Pakistan Embassy in Delhi. Scholars from Pakistan, India,
England and Bangladesh were Present. At about 3 pm the
Pakistani Ambassador who was presiding announced that there
would be a half hour break to allow Muslims to say their afternoon
prayers. I was surprised as I did not expect scholars to be
fastidious about religious rituals. At 6 pm the chairman called for
another half hour break to allow sikh member to say his prayers.
We sat and watched him stroll on the embassy lawns murmuring
the reharaas prayers. I thought it was a kind of tit for tat for the
earlier break. Then I discovered that was not so. This man who
was an avid bridge player would slap down his cards on the table
exactly as the clock struck six and take a few minutes leave the
recite the evening prayers as he strolled up and down the club
grounds. Then he resumed the game and ordered his scotch.
This was Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi.
All the sports Mughal royalty enjoyed-fighting quails, fighting
rams, falcon hunting- were enjoyed by Kanwar Sahib. A patron of
many sports including wresting, he was honoured with
innumerable awards. In addition he loved to write Urdu Poetry. He
soon became the most sought after master of ceremonies at Urdu
Mushiaras in India, Pakistan, Europe and the United States.
Besides collection of poems, he wrote his autobiography Yaddon
ka Jashn.
Bedi spent most of his years in the civil service. Muslims
have a lot to be grateful to him because he saved hundreds of
Muslim lives in the partitions riots. Gen Zia-ul-Haq said “To
improve relations between the two countries, (India and Pakistan)
we need cultural ambassadors like Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi”
Bedi’s death was widely mourned in India as well as Pakistan
where it was announced on the front pages of all papers and over
radio and TV. At the request of his Muslim friends the cremation
was delayed by an hour so that they could get over with their
namaz and come to the crematorium to bid him a final farewell.
He was the stoutest bridge between India and Pakistan. That
Bridge fell in the early hours of the 17th of July 1992.
