Experimenting with the Ethics of Experimentation, Spark the Change 2015Adrian Howard
Lean Startup and Lean UX give you powerful experiment driven methods to learn about customers, products and services. But you’re not dealing with test tubes and chemicals. You’re dealing with people.
The customer backlash from some of Facebook’s experiments last year shows that what companies can do doesn’t always match up with what customers think they should do. How do we keep doing valuable experiments without hurting our customers or damaging our reputation?
There’s a word you hear from experimental scientists you don’t often hear on product teams: Ethics.
How does your organisation help you create ethical experiments? Professional scientists have people & processes to help them deal with ethical issues — experiments pass both professional and institutional standards. Is anyone thinking about ethical standards inside your company — or is the issue being ignored completely?
How do you get everybody in your team to understand who is using your product — especially if you're not 100% certain yourself? You get out of the building and talk to your customers, but how do you communicate what you've learned when you get back?
Persona are research-based examples of the people who use your product. They help teams understand customers and deliver the features that they really need. However persona have traditionally been produced by specialist researchers in up-front research phases that don’t fit in well with agile and lean product development.
This talk shows you how to get the whole team involved in user research. You’ll work through an example scenario showing you how to learn about your customers by building persona incrementally. You'll experience how to get rapid alignment on your customer within the team, how to refine customer models over time, and how this lets you work with persona in a changing marketplace. Helping the whole team gain customer empathy and generate new product ideas.
You'll come away with practical techniques for integrating persona with agile & lean approaches to product strategy and development.
Lean personas: discover your real customersAdrian Howard
How can you get everyone in the team to understand your customers - especially if you're not 100% certain yourself?
Personas - research-based examples of the people who use your product - can help. Unfortunately in agile contexts traditional persona development often doesn't work well.
How do we use personas when our understanding of the product and market is still evolving? What happens when we lack the resources for extended up-front research? How do teams manage changes to existing personas? How should we communicate personas? How do we keep the value of long-term research in an environment of rapid iteration or continuous delivery?
We'll show you how to incrementally build models of your customer with the whole team. We'll be demonstrating practical techniques for documenting personas, communicating ongoing research, and integrating it with agile approaches to product vision and strategy.

If you can write an e-mail, you can write a blog. Everyone is blogging about various issues: Food, politics, news, fashion, photography, design, travel, etc… Unlike websites, blogs are interactive.
The following presentation prepared by Think Media Labs will help you get in the loop of blogging and of how to start and improve a successful blog.
Enhancing CSO National Dialogue and Collaboration via Social Media.
Having Social Media channels and being active on them is not enough to get their message heard, to grab the attention of the media, to get politicians to support them, to collaborate with other CSOs, and to grow their user base.

"... inspiring social media monitoring website Think Media Labs to begin tracking Lebanese politicians’ involvement on Twitter. Almost a year later, Hariri, Sleiman and Mikati’s Twitter interaction continues, though it has admittedly lost some momentum."
Integrating Social Media KPIs into the core of your business KPIs enhances your business in terms of Sales, Customer Support, and Marketing.
Think Media Labs gave a public session to the business community of Lebanon where we provided detailed insight to what are the KPIs that matter, how to measure them, what are the practical meanings of the indicators, and what are your next steps.
Technology and Change: It's good for business, is it good enough for education?Hazel Owen
The notion that education prepares you for the rest of your life is flawed. Rather, education helps you develop the lifelong learning skills that will help you to be responsive to change as it happens.
It might be argued that, public confidence in higher education has been declining steadily as the gap between the 'relevance' seen (by students, communities, and commerce) between what students are being prepared for and the lives they are going to live.
I wanted to ask the question (perhaps a little controversial)
Are tertiary institutions innovative (something several claim to be) or are they simply doing the same things they have been doing for years, just using different tools?
Are we preparing students to be ethical, able participants in communities - online and face-to-face?

Social Media took over our lives in most different aspects. Even health care providers are becoming more aware of how the digital world and services, i.e. Apps, social Networks,... can be of benefit for them and for their visitors and patients.
Political Social Media - Lebanon and Elections 2013 TeaserThink Media Labs
Politicians in Lebanon have been increasingly embracing Social Media over the last year and their Social Media activity will continue to grow at a much higher rate in 2013. Think Media Labs has been monitoring, documenting, and analyzing the Social Media activity of the politicians and has compiled and summarized this data in this detailed analytical report. After going through this report you will know who is active, who is a late comer to the political Social Media scene, who is more social than others, who has more followers, when are they having slow months.
Lebanon's politicians have been very active on Twitter in 2012 and are expected to be more active in 2013 with the upcoming elections. HMA Tom Fletcher triggered an online discussion on Twitter on Jan 9, 2013 with a tweet: "In context of external influence in Lebanon, does anyone have statistics on number of RTs of foreign leaders by Lebanese leaders?" (source: https://twitter.com/HMATomFletcher/status/288957951304163328)
This presentation is the contribution of Think Media Labs to that online discussion. We data mined and analyzed more than one year of Social Media data on Lebanon's politicians and the attached report addresses the question of the retweet activity of Lebanon's politicians involving foreign leaders.
Ayman Itani, Think Media Labs CEO, gave this presentation as a part of "Transmedia Storytelling in the Digital Age" panel that he moderated in Doha Tribeca Film Festival 2012
Lebanese political figures have become notorious for taking their rather unseemly catfights to Twitter and Facebook, leading some to wonder whether tweeting their spats is the only thing keeping these pillars of the Lebanese community from literally being at each other's throats.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
