Pathways has a good amount of strengths within its market domain. With a lot of strengths and weaknesses comes a lot for the leaders of the company to manage and balance. Their strengths can be used to market the company a certain way and makes them able to attack their biggest weakness. Their biggest weakness as a company isn’t an internal factor but is an external one. Their biggest weakness is the amount of competition in they are up against in the home care market domain. The minimal barriers new companies need to go through to start up aids to this problem. Their biggest strength helps negate this weakness and helps the company continue to grow and stay on the right path. Their biggest strength is their unique home care model and their proven reliability that is backed by hard data which shows their model is more enhance. Their model is better for the patient and new home care companies will continue to come around, but none can match what Pathways Healthcare has established and will continue to do. "Over the last several years, the external environment in which public companies operate has become increasingly complex for companies and shareholders alike. The increased regulatory burdens imposed on public companies in recent years have added to the costs and complexity of overseeing and managing a corporation’s business and bring new challenges from operational, regulatory and compliance perspectives. In addition, many U.S. public companies have a global profile; they interact with investors, suppliers, customers and government regulators around the world and do so in an era in which instant communication is the norm." (Business Roundtable, 2016) Pathways Healthcare has a different kind of home care model but not many people are even aware the company exists. They are a physician group practice dually licensed in home care which allows them to bring doctors and nurse practitioners into their patient’s homes. This higher level of care brings higher results, keeping their patients home rather than having them bouncing back to the hospital. An intrapreneurial opportunity Pathways Healthcare has is to launch a marketing project that reaches the right cliental. The marketing plan Pathways has now is feet to the ground marketing to inpatient and outpatient facilities with their marketing liaisons. They do not have a strategic advertising marketing plan to reach patients and other referral sources directly. If they were to explore the idea of starting and executing a full-blown marketing campaign with digital and radio ads, they could increase.

A Stanford and Harvard professor convened a symposium on what’s
actually working to improve diversity and inclusion in organizational life. In this
article, David Pedulla summarizes the main findings. First, organizations should set
goals, collect data, and hold people accountable for improving diversity within the
organization. Second, organizations should abandon traditional discrimination and
harassment reporting systems — these often lead to retaliation. Employee

increase buy-in and lead to smooth implementation.
In the wake of major social and political changes over the past
decades, leading companies are taking steps to increase diversity,
equity, and inclusion. Yet progress in most sectors remains tepid.
Programs designed to increase diversity and inclusion in the
workplace often fail. So that leads to a natural question: What’s
actually working?
Focusing on solutions to the diversity challenge — rather than on the
failures — was top of mind when Devah Pager and I designed a
convening in 2018. We brought together leading experts on bias,
technology, discrimination, and organizational design, and – rather
than documenting the problems that abound – we asked everyone to
focus on answering one simple question: What works? (Pager, who
was the Peter and Isabel Malkin professor of public policy and
professor of sociology at Harvard University, passed away in 2018.
The ongoing aspects of our project, I hope, are a testament to her
pathbreaking work on racial discrimination and social inequality.)
It was challenging to keep our emphasis on solutions. As became
clear, there is no silver bullet. No single solution. Yet, in pushing
ourselves to think outside the box and draw on the best empirical
evidence that exists, the convening participants identified promising
areas where investment, focus, and experimentation have the ability
to serve as remarkable engines of change
We dove into these promising areas and produced a report, titled
“What Works? Evidence-Based Ideas to Increase Diversity, Equity,

VSO Lasting Impact Report
The Lasting Impact Report surveyed the returned volunteers from nine companies who volunteered between 20 14 and 2017. The findings show that 91% of respondents were more engaged with their company’s CSR policy, 77% were better able to see how the company’s operations affected the poor and marginalised and 78% were better able to see how the sustainability policy and operations could be improved. Most importantly, 74% actively made recommendations for positive change in their company.

It would be helpful to precede the review of the dilemma with a definition of the criteria for determining a dilemma.
Nice job identifying (room for more analysis, compare and contrasting) some of the five most common theoretical approaches (Justice/Fairness, Universalism, Utilitarianism, Rights and Virtue Ethics). I wish you had discussed more on Rawl's Theory of Justice. This was critical, especially to set the context early in the paper. And of course, you concluded, like others, I think, that none are perfect and that it is important to consider the "practical consequences" resulting from key actions. And yes, while there are a lot of similarities there are some key differences. As you implied, each situation is different too, lending itself often, to a different approach. Most important was your review of the different approaches, application of a Step Model and your rationale for reviewing and applying the different Approaches. Now I wonder which one, leads the ethical decision making--Fairness supported by Utilitarian Approach thinking or something different?!?
As with most papers it is helpful to see clear organization, with a beginning, middle and end. You could work on this in the second half of your paper. For example, generically speaking, an Introduction clarifying what will follow, Background for context, the Discussion and a Summary and/or Conclusion. These beginning and ending sections help a lot and should be sub-titled!
In summary your paper is succinct (too much so at times) and to the point--yet includes some helpful background and context. It is important to exhibit a clear progression from discussion to analysis to new insights. Moving from data acquisition to information to knowledge building to insightful wisdom continues to be important for the learning process this Term.

Marketing Communication
Marketing communication refers to the different modes of marketing techniques used by a company to advertise their products and services to the target consumers. To exemplify corporate ethics at an organizational level, a corporation should educate potential consumers about their products without making any false or exaggerated claims or exploiting public emotions, fears of and discriminations to attract customers or to avail of competitive advantage.
Financial Reporting
Financial reporting is the process through which corporations disclose their financial information to their shareholders, governing authorities and the general public. While most government agencies and corporate associations mandate companies to disclose their financial information such as yearly turnovers, assets, liabilities, investments and donations on a quarterly or fiscal basis, there have been various scandals in the past, in which large corporations have concealed or manipulated financial data in reports to achieve organizational objectives. Such was the case of Boeing in 1997 when the company concealed huge financial overruns. To implement a positive tone at the top, an organization needs to conduct truthful and accurate financial reporting regardless of the circumstances (Lord, 2018).
Leadership
The nature of leadership shown by the managers of an organization determine the employees’ perception of the the internal environment of the corporation, which in turn contributes to the overall tone at the top. To enhance ethics in the work culture, leaders should not only observe, supervise and help employees at their jobs but should also show dedicated and organizational attitude. For example, leaders need to take responsibility for collective mistakes and risks that may arise in the course of any operation (Yasir and Mohamad, 2016). Moreover, transformational leadership is a great way to establish an ethical work culture, whereby leaders show interest in employees’ issues and work towards the benefit of both employees and organizations to encourage workers in achieving organizational goals.

Programs designed to increase diversity and inclusion in the
workplace often fail. So that leads to a natural question: What’s
actually working?
Focusing on solutions to the diversity challenge — rather than on the
failures — was top of mind when Devah Pager and I designed a
convening in 2018. We brought together leading experts on bias,
technology, discrimination, and organizational design, and – rather
than documenting the problems that abound – we asked everyone to
focus on answering one simple question: What works? (Pager, who
was the Peter and Isabel Malkin professor of public policy and
professor of sociology at Harvard University, passed away in 2018.
The ongoing aspects of our project, I hope, are a testament to her
pathbreaking work on racial discrimination and social inequality.)
It was challenging to keep our emphasis on solutions. As became
clear, there is no silver bullet. No single solution. Yet, in pushing
ourselves to think outside the box and draw on the best empirical
evidence that exists, the convening participants identified promising
areas where investment, focus, and experimentation have the ability
to serve as remarkable engines of change
We dove into these promising areas and produced a report, titled
“What Works? Evidence-Based Ideas to Increase Diversity, Equity,

VSO Lasting Impact Report
The Lasting Impact Report surveyed the returned volunteers from nine companies who volunteered between 20 14 and 2017. The findings show that 91% of respondents were more engaged with their company’s CSR policy, 77% were better able to see how the company’s operations affected the poor and marginalised and 78% were better able to see how the sustainability policy and operations could be improved. Most importantly, 74% actively made recommendations for positive change in their company.

Nice job in further clarifying the issues regarding hiring in a multicultural environment. Critical for this paper is to fulfill the key ambition of this Assignment--to Analyze, to Apply and to Assess! Examples and specifics help a lot. So would the use of key insights from your research. More readings and secondary research add depth. Most important was the connection back to the ethical dilemma/issue. It would be helpful to precede the review of the dilemma with a definition of the criteria for determining a dilemma.
Nice job identifying (room for more analysis, compare and contrasting) some of the five most common theoretical approaches (Justice/Fairness, Universalism, Utilitarianism, Rights and Virtue Ethics). I wish you had discussed more on Rawl's Theory of Justice. This was critical, especially to set the context early in the paper. And of course, you concluded, like others, I think, that none are perfect and that it is important to consider the "practical consequences" resulting from key actions. And yes, while there are a lot of similarities there are some key differences. As you implied, each situation is different too, lending itself often, to a different approach. Most important was your review of the different approaches, application of a Step Model and your rationale for reviewing and applying the different Approaches. Now I wonder which one, leads the ethical decision making--Fairness supported by Utilitarian Approach thinking or something different?!?
As with most papers it is helpful to see clear organization, with a beginning, middle and end. You could work on this in the second half of your paper. For example, generically speaking, an Introduction clarifying what will follow, Background for context, the Discussion and a Summary and/or Conclusion. These beginning and ending sections help a lot and should be sub-titled!
In summary your paper is succinct (too much so at times) and to the point--yet includes some helpful background and context. It is important to exhibit a clear progression from discussion to analysis to new insights. Moving from data acquisition to information to knowledge building to insightful wisdom continues to be important for the learning process this Term.

Factors Influencing Tone at the Top
Marketing Communication
Marketing communication refers to the different modes of marketing techniques used by a company to advertise their products and services to the target consumers. To exemplify corporate ethics at an organizational level, a corporation should educate potential consumers about their products without making any false or exaggerated claims or exploiting public emotions, fears of and discriminations to attract customers or to avail of competitive advantage.
Financial Reporting
Financial reporting is the process through which corporations disclose their financial information to their shareholders, governing authorities and the general public. While most government agencies and corporate associations mandate companies to disclose their financial information such as yearly turnovers, assets, liabilities, investments and donations on a quarterly or fiscal basis, there have been various scandals in the past, in which large corporations have concealed or manipulated financial data in reports to achieve organizational objectives. Such was the case of Boeing in 1997 when the company concealed huge financial overruns. To implement a positive tone at the top, an organization needs to conduct truthful and accurate financial reporting regardless of the circumstances (Lord, 2018).
Leadership
The nature of leadership shown by the managers of an organization determine the employees’ perception of the the internal environment of the corporation, which in turn contributes to the overall tone at the top. To enhance ethics in the work culture, leaders should not only observe, supervise and help employees at their jobs but should also show dedicated and organizational attitude. For example, leaders need to take responsibility for collective mistakes and risks that may arise in the course of any operation (Yasir and Mohamad, 2016). Moreover, transformational leadership is a great way to establish an ethical work culture, whereby leaders show interest in employees’ issues and work towards the benefit of both employees and organizations to encourage workers in achieving organizational goals.

Corporate philanthropy refers to the contribution of corporations towards social and environmental causes through donations and sponsorship. In order to achieve a positive tone at the top, corporations need to perform philanthropy as a burden of social responsibility and not as a marketing strategy.

Almost every intellectual claims to have the welfare of humanity, and particularly the
welfare of the poor, at heart: but since no mass murder takes place without its

sentiment can plainly take a multiplicity of forms.

Almost every intellectual claims to have the welfare of humanity, and particularly the
welfare of the poor, at heart: but since no mass murder takes place without its
perpetrators alleging that they are acting for the good of mankind, philanthropic
sentiment can plainly take a multiplicity of forms.
Two great European writers of the nineteenth century, Ivan Turgenev and Karl Marx,
illustrate this diversity with vivid clarity. Both were born in 1818 and died in 1883, and
their lives paralleled each other almost preternaturally in many other respects as well.
They nevertheless came to view human life and suffering in very different, indeed
irreconcilable, ways—through different ends of the telescope, as it were. Turgenev saw
human beings as individuals always endowed with consciousness, character, feelings,
and moral strengths and weaknesses; Marx saw them always as snowflakes in an
avalanche, as instances of general forces, as not yet fully human because utterly
conditioned by their circumstances. Where Turgenev saw men, Marx saw classes of men;
where Turgenev saw people, Marx saw the People. These two ways of looking at the
world persist into our own time and profoundly affect, for better or for worse, the
solutions we propose to our social problems.
The resemblances between the careers of these men begin with their attendance at Berlin
University at overlapping times, where both were deeply affected—even intoxicated—by
the prevailing Hegelianism. As a result, both considered careers as university teachers of
philosophy, but neither ever held a university post. They had many acquaintances in

common in Berlin, including Mikhail Bakunin, the Russian aristocrat who later became a
revolutionary anarchist, the philosopher Bruno Bauer, and the radical poet Georg
Herwegh. They shared a carelessness with money, perhaps because they were both born
into easy circumstances and therefore assumed that money would never be a problem.
Both started their writing careers as romantic poets, though more of Turgenev’s poetry
than Marx’s was published.
Their literary influences and tastes were similar. Each read widely in the Greek and Latin
classics; each could quote Shakespeare in the original. Both learned Spanish in order to
read Calderón. (Turgenev, of course, also learned it to speak the native language of the
great, but unsatisfactory, love of his life, the famous prima donna Pauline Viardot.) The
two men were in Brussels at the outbreak of the 1848 revolution against the July
monarch.

Pathways has a good amount of strengths within its market domain. With a lot of strengths and weaknesses comes a lot for the leaders of the company to manage and balance. Their strengths can be used to market the company a certain way and makes them able to attack their biggest weakness. Their biggest weakness as a company isn’t an internal factor but is an external one. Their biggest weakness is the amount of competition in they are up against in the home care market domain. The minimal barriers new companies need to go through to start up aids to this problem. Their biggest strength helps negate this weakness and helps the company continue to grow and stay on the right path. Their biggest strength is their unique home care model and their proven reliability that is backed by hard data which shows their model is more enhance. Their model is better for the patient and new home care companies will continue to come around, but none can match what Pathways Healthcare has established and will continue to do. "Over the last several years, the external environment in which public companies operate has become increasingly complex for companies and shareholders alike. The increased regulatory burdens imposed on public companies in recent years have
- 2. added to the costs and complexity of overseeing and managing a corporation’s business and bring new challenges from operational, regulatory and compliance perspectives. In addition, many U.S. public companies have a global profile; they interact with investors, suppliers, customers and government regulators around the world and do so in an era in which instant communication is the norm." (Business Roundtable, 2016) Pathways Healthcare has a different kind of home care model but not many people are even aware the company exists. They are a physician group practice dually licensed in home care which allows them to bring doctors and nurse practitioners into their patient’s homes. This higher level of care brings higher results, keeping their patients home rather than having them bouncing back to the hospital. An intrapreneurial opportunity Pathways Healthcare has is to launch a marketing project that reaches the right cliental. The marketing plan Pathways has now is feet to the ground marketing to inpatient and outpatient facilities with their marketing liaisons. They do not have a strategic advertising marketing plan to reach patients and other referral sources directly. If they were to explore the idea of starting and executing a full-blown marketing campaign with digital and radio ads, they could increase their census of patients and possibly reach more referral sources. The board of directors is responsible for overseeing the direction, strategy and accountability of the officers and the firm. Since they also have to address concerns for competitive demand in the marketplace, leaders would have to adopt the use of corporate social responsibility. “Managing corporate social responsibility from the corporate board of directors the marketplace requires commitment, and significant time, effort and resources from the organization” (Weiss, 2014). Though it’s not an easy task to accomplish maximizing profits while also thinking about its external stakeholders, leaders have a social responsibility to plan for corporate sustainability and its success in the future. A good example of this balance would be Burt’s Bees. “To remain on top of environmental practices, they host educational sessions for their employees on a regular basis. Looking to the community, they created The Greater Good Foundation to contribute toward non-profit initiatives that align with their practices and beliefs. Burt’s Bees is also a proud partner with Habitat for Humanity in their local community” (Wild, 2017). Not only does Burt Bee’s maintain a business, but they also help support the public in initiatives that are becoming a growing concern for the environment. -Jason
