Instructions and Study Question for Essay Test
For the essay test, you will need to develop and submit a detailed essay on either (1) four important similarities between the U.S. Constitution and the Articles of Confederation or (2) the first political party system, as given in the formal questions below. Your answer will be worth up to 100 points for the one question you decide to choose. You will need to observe the normal essay format of introduction, body, and conclusion AND you will need to
put the word count at the bottom of the essay
. (By typing your essay first in Word for cutting and pasting into the essay test, you can get the word count easily in Word,
before putting in the citation references
.) The essay must be about
1,000
words
(can vary only between 950 and 1,050 words, not counting the citation references). You will also need to follow the documentation and other requirements below.
You will actually have as much time as you need to develop your answer if you develop it in Word first and then cut and paste it into the essay question block. Technically, you will have an hour to cut and paste it, but it should not take you that long.
However,
BE SURE TO PROOFREAD
your submitted essay to ensure the required underlining and other features were fully transferred.
If not, you will have to put the underlining and other features in manually as part of your proofread.
Your efforts will be evaluated based on how well and how comprehensively you answer the question, the quality of the quotes/passages from Cogbooks (bolded and underlined in quotes and followed by the citation in parentheses (Unit, Goal #, Subgoal # if any, Paragraph # and Sentence # or alternate format--see discussion on second page below), and whether you followed instructions.
NOTE:
Essays without quotes and citations from Cogbooks will lose 50 points, in addition to other deductions for essay weaknesses
.
SPECIFIC DOCUMENTATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Book:
You must use Cogbooks in order to pass this test, due to the 50-point deduction described above for not providing quotes and location citation references from Cogbooks. Other sources are not acceptable. You may cite the Articles of Confederation and U.S. Constitution (article and section) for the constitution question, but this will not dismiss the requirement to use
at least a total of ten (10) quotes from Cogbooks in your answer
(see below).
Number of Paragraphs and Words
:
You must follow the instructions on the number of paragraphs and words for your answer. Some paragraphs should be long paragraphs (10-12 sentences), while others can be short paragraphs (6-7 sentences). The total number of words as counted by the Word Program (
before putting in the citation references
) must be about 1,000 words (between 950 and 1,050 words), again,
not counting the citation references
. There must be an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Bolding, Underlining, Quotation Marks, and Citation Referen.

Abstract
The abstract is written in block format, meaning that the start of the paragraph is not indented. It begins on the next line following the Abstract heading and should not be more than 250 words. As an undergraduate, it is suggested that you verify the length of the abstract with your instructor (it is usually a FULL paragraph), but a graduate student must adhere to the 120 to 250 word abstract. The Abstract heading should NOT be in bold. All numbers in an abstract should be typed as digits and not as words unless they are at the beginning of a sentence. The abstract is a one-paragraph summary of the most important elements of the paper. This is an example of what an abstract looks like in a paper. Remember, it takes a minimum of 5 sentences to make a paragraph.
Title of Paper
The title of the paper is centered on the first line of the third page and is in uppercase and lowercase letters. Do not italicize the title, bold it, or put it in quotes. The introductory paragraph begins on the line following the title of the paper. The entire paper, including the title page, abstract, body, and references, should be double-spaced. The before/after spacing should be set on zero and the margins should be one inch.
In order to give proper credit to the ideas and words of others, any outside sources used in the body of the paper must be documented by citing the author(s) and copyright date of the source(s). This is called a citation. Each citation must have a corresponding full source reference on the references page that follows the body of the paper. As noted by Stevens (2008), a signal phrase “signals to the reader that either a direct quote or a paraphrase is about to follow” (p.43). This is an in-text citation. As in this example, when the name of the author is part of the sentence, the year of the publication appears in parentheses directly following the author’s name, e.g., Stevens (2008). When the author of a source is not mentioned in the sentence, both the author and year of publication appear in parentheses (Stevens, 2008). This is a parenthetical citation. If a work has two authors, both authors are cited in each citation to that source. For a citation of a source with two authors, use the last names of both authors separated by an ampersand (&). When no author is listed, use the title. If the title is extremely long, one may shorten it to the first 4 words of the title and place them in quotation marks. If the headings are too long to use in your in-text citation use a shortened version in quotation marks like this: (Lorraine, 2009, “Stock market trends,” para. 56). When there isn’t any publication date is listed, use the abbreviation n.d., which stands for no date. When a direct quote is taken from a source with page numbers, such as a book, magazine, or newspaper, include the page n.

The assignment now because requires some research into “strong sources.” Those sources that support your response will require footnotes and a bibliography to present you evidence, in CHICAGO MANUAL STYLE
The first part will not require it, but part two should have an attempt at citing your sources using Chicago Manual style. The video “HOW TO: Cite in Chicago Manual Style” will demonstrate is and model the method of citing your references. Beasts of No Nation Essay
Timeline:
Week of April 10-13: Watch Beasts of No Nation during class periods.
Mon. April 17: First Draft of Film Paper Due
Week of April 17-20 : One-on-One conferences about the
paper.
Tues. April 25: Final Draft of Film Essay due in D2L dropbox.
Directions:
Choose ONE of the following questions and write a well-planned out, coherent essay that argues a point that you want to make about the movie.
1. How does the film address the question of what “family” means?
2. How does the film address the idea of putting one’s trust in God?
3. How does the film show how a young child can be recruited into the military?
4. How does the film treat the subject of resistance against an unjust military government?
Just a reminder of what a good essay consists of, the essay should contain:
1. A nice introductory paragraph that “leads in” to your thesis statement. Your thesis statement should not be the first sentence of the essay.
2. A clear and precise thesis statement that will alert the reader what the essay is going to be about.
3. A good, strong topic sentence in each paragraph, usually the first sentence of the paragraph.
4. Enough development in each paragraph to fully support the main point (aka topic sentence).
5. A conclusion that either summarizes the main points of the essay or emphasizes the very important point(s).
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND VISITING A WEBSITE LIKE WIKIPEDIA OR SPARKNOTES. I ESPECIALLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT STUDENTS VISIT ANY WEBSITE WHERE THEY CAN PURCHASE PAPER WITH A CREDIT CARD. Students who visit these websites looking for ideas tend to accidentally plagiarize the sites in their papers. Accidental plagiarism is still plagiarism and will receive the same zero that plagiarizing on purpose gets.
WHAT I EXPECT FROM THIS ESSAY
1. I want this essay to be an analysis of The Hunger Games. I DO NOT WANT A PLOT SUMMARY. Notice that every sample question that I provided for you above required some sort of deep thinking and analysis. Your essay should show such analytical ability.
2. Your paper should be foregrounded in LOGOS, not ethos or pathos. You may use some ethos or pathos if it helps you to make your point, but the dominant mode of persuasion that you should be using in this paper is logos.
3. DO NOT USE PURE SPECULATION! Always back your assertions up with evidence from the movie.
4. Use specific details. Do not be vague.
RUBRIC
I will be scoring your essay based upon the following criteria:
Formatting (6 points)
Your essay should formatted in MLA format. Use the Formatting a Paper in MLA Format link in the MLA Formatting folder under Course Content to learn how to format a paper properly. One point will be counted off for each of these that are not done properly:
· 12 point font
· Times New Roman font
· Paper margins 1” around (this one should be easy since it’s the default on Word, therefore not requiring any changes

Write the essay from the first-person point of view of a law enforcement officer, the first-person point of view of a wildlife hunter, the first-person point of view of an anti-gun proponent who despises freedom and the Second Amendment to our beloved Constitution, or the first-person point of view of a convicted felon who possesses several automatic weapons, all of which have been illegally obtained.
Just a reminder for anyone who needs it: When writing from the first-person point of view of a law enforcement officer, the voice in your entire essay must be the voice of a law enforcement officer (or hunter, or anti-gun person, or convicted felon), and the voice must be especially strong in the introductory and concluding paragraphs. Do not write about the voice,

the voice. Write from only
one
point of view, not all four.
The language in assignments that require writing from a particular point of view must conform to the “Checklist for Essays and Other Writing Assignments.” For example, a dirty rotten scoundrel would probably use some unsavory language filled with inappropriate expletives, but if an English Composition student were writing from the point of view of a dirty rotten scoundrel, the voice must be that of a dirty rotten scoundrel, but the writing (usage, grammar, language mechanics) must be suitable for English Composition classroom expectations.

Assignment 08

Directions:Unless otherwise stated, answer in complete sentences, and be sure to use correct English spelling and grammar. Sources must be cited in APA format. Refer to the "Assignment Format" page for specific format requirements.
Instructions
In your course, turn to Lesson 8. Skim through it to refresh your memory. Next, carefully study and review the section titled “Approaches to Measuring Technological Progress.” Next, relying solely on the material in your course, use your own words in order to write a short comparison and contrast essay that defines and explains three distinct perspectives on the evolution of technology. As you write, imagine you are talking to a friend who has no knowledge of this topic. In short, write the way you speak, using a conversational tone. Also, try to alternate short sentences and longer sentences to make your writing more readable.
Before, during, or after you’ve completed your essay, be sure to create a title and cite yourself as the author. For example:
A Comparison of Three Perspectives on the Evolution of Technology
Heather Jones
Your essay should have 5 paragraphs. Paragraph 1 is your lead paragraph. It will contain an overview of what you have to say in comparing and contrasting the perspectives of Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler with respect to the evolution of technology.
Paragraphs 2, 3, and 4, are your body paragraphs. In your essay, paragraph 2 should describe the perspective of Gerhard Lenski.
In paragraph 3, you’ll write about the perspective of Leslie White.
In paragraph 4, you’ll describe and discuss the perspective of Alvin Toffler.
Paragraph 5 is your summary and conclusion paragraph. Here, you will compare the three perspectives to show how they are, or may be, similar. You’ll contrast the three perspectives to describe how they are different. You will end this process – and your essay – by expressing your view as to which theorist or theorists offer the most useful insights into the evolution of technology.
Mechanics
Your document’s margins should be 1 inch, top, bottom, left, and right. That’s the default option if you use MS Word.
All your copy should be flush left.
For purposes of evaluating your essay, skip a line between each paragraph.
Make sure you use a standard indent for the first sentence of each of your paragraphs. Pressing the tab key one time is a simple way to do that.
It’s permissible to use direct quotes from the lesson. But don’t overdo it. One to three such quotes should be your limit. In any case, be sure to bracket a direct quote with quotation marks. For example: According to Marlowe, “White and Lenski are on the same page.”
Begin by writing a first draft. Then, remembering that writing is rewriting, try and try again to make your prose readable. After you think you’ve composed a final draft, go over your essay again to locate and correct grammar and spelling errors.

6.1. Module 6.1: Getting Started--the Openng of Paper 1
Getting Started--Paper 1
Your topic is not a matter of life and death, yet the idea of the American dream is an important myth in American culture and history. Thus, your first paragraph (I), the opening, must have three elements: Thesis, Three Organizing Ideas, and Statement of Significance.
Opening for Paper 1
How to get started and things to keep in mind as you write:
1. To start your essay, use the following phrasing:
F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby (verb of your choice)….
Make this first sentence of the essay be your thesis statement.
See http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/1/1/ for a discussion of thesis statements.
There is discussion in textbooks about where to place your thesis: Should it be the first sentence? Should it be in the middle of the first paragraph or at the end of the first paragraph?
For this class, for the purpose of uniformity and clarity for your reader (me), make your first sentence be your thesis statement.
Sample: F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby devotes itself primarily to the failure of the American dream.
2. Follow that thesis statement with your organizing idea sentences. There should be three of these sentences, one for each 20-sentence paragraph in the body of the essay.
The organizing idea sentences tell the reader in advance what is in the three-part body of the paper. You probably should not try to write these organizing idea sentences (some call them advanced organizers or controlling ideas) until your paper is completed because you may not be clear about what exactly your three-part body is about until after you have written it.
An example:
This paper will explain what the American dream is.
It will place the dream into the context of The Great Gatsby's setting.
Finally, it will relate the ideas of the dream to three characters.
3. Last, create a statement of significance, which explains why this paper is important, significant, or interesting. Some call it a hook to get the reader's interest.
An example:
The American dream helped to build the United States for two centuries, and Fitzgerald was testing its effectiveness in the 20th century.
One test for you is:
Does the thesis statement align with the conclusion? Another is does the title align with the thesis and conclusion?
The total length of Paper 1 is five paragraphs.
6.2. Module 6.2: Evaluation Criteria
This Module applies the planning for Paper 1 to the Evaluation Criteria
NOTE:
1, Boldface refers to Evaluation Criteria
2. Underlining refers to the organization of Paper One.
Evaluation Criteria
1. Elements of Organization (These Arabic numerals in bold face refer to the Evaluation Criteria.)
I. Opening paragraph: It needs both a thesis statement and an organizing idea. It should end with a statement of significance. (These Roman numerals refer to the organization of your essay in outline form.)

Due date (as below)
Instructions
In the final draft of your research-based argument, the culmination of your work this semester, you will be analyzing your chosen topic and presenting your argument. You will be supporting your argument with research based on at least five sources, and will be expected to quote and to give examples from the texts as necessary, demonstrating your skills in summary, analysis and synthesis, and to provide correct citations and a Works Cited list using MLA format. As mentioned, you should include both print and online sources, and at least three should be scholarly in nature. The others may be newspaper or magazine articles, reports, etc. A personal interview can be counted as one of the five sources.
Below, as specified earlier, are guidelines to the expected organization of the paper:
Introduction
This should introduce your topic and the particular issue(s) on which your research focuses, and provide a brief background. Your thesis statement (one sentence, showing your own argument) should be in a prominent position and should be obvious to the reader. You may use an attention-getting opener if you wish.
Body
This will be in at least three sections (a section may be more than one paragraph). You may need to provide more background information, but remember to keep the emphasis on the argument. Each section should begin with a major supporting argument, which you will develop with minor supporting points, adding examples or details to illustrate these as necessary. Try to keep your body sections approximately equal in length. You should use your sources (all those in Works Cited should be mentioned in the body of the paper) to reinforce your arguments. Include a reasonable number of direct quotations. Provide citations in MLA format for both quotations and paraphrases. You should refer to the counter-argument(s) to your thesis, with support from sources if applicable.

Unit 1: International Policy Memo (15% of Grade)
For this assignment, you will compose a 2-3 page, single-spaced international policy memo to the President of the
United States. You can choose any current topic, but it has to be related to U.S. foreign policy, an international issue, a
military issue, and/or the U.S. relationship with another country. You could also address an international problem that
the U.S. currently has no stake in and make an argument for why and how the U.S. should get involved.
A. Your memo must have the following elements. (This is what your outline should also include.) If your topic requires
a different format with different elements, you should clear it with me first. If your memo does not include all
elements below as described below, you will get a 5-10 point deduction for every missing or incomplete element.
I. Heading with subject, sender, and recipient in proper format
II. Abstract (also known as a summary) at the beginning. Your summary should be short--no more than ¼ of a page. You
must list your final recommendation in this section—it is your thesis.
III. Background. THIS IS THE ONLY PART THAT IS OPTIONAL. If you need a background section, this section should be no
more than 1/2 of a page. If your topic has relevant history that is not part of the “problem” section per se, then you
probably need a background section.
IV. Discussion of the problem/issue, with several subsidiary points as sub-headings.
V. Brief introduction of 2-3 possible solutions, with pros/cons for each (the good and bad results you expect to get from
this course of action). Use sub-headings.
VI. Implementation strategy (specific steps involved in your solution—how to make it happen); You might also mention
specific ways to counteract or mitigate any expected negative effects listed in the earlier section. Use subheadings for
your steps.
B. Your memo will be graded based on the following criteria:
1. Adherence to the memo format as provided in the list above, with all information required as specified above.
*You must have a full 2 pages, single-spaced, with no triple/quadruple spaces as “filler.” A great memo will probably
have 3 pages but no more than 4 pages tops. I will deduct points for less than 2 full pages and more than 4 pages.
2. Proper writing style: professional language (polished, objective, unemotional, no slang); clear, succinct, phrasing
(avoid wordiness, vagueness, empty “filler” and awkward phrasing; avoidance of the first-person “I” voice; avoidance of
grammar/punctuation/sentence errors--stuff we’ve specifically reviewed in class, but also any basic stuff as well.
3. TYPOS ARE A BIG DEDUCTION, ESPECIALLY MORE THAN TWO. AFTER TWO TYPOS, I ATTACH AN EXTRA FIVE POINTS
DEDUCTION PER TYPO, WHICH MEANS 7 POINTS PER TYPO IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN TWO.
4. Evidence of a well-rounded investigation and analysis of the topic, wi.

When forming the thesis (argument, opinion), recall that a good opinion is always supported by facts.
Do not write about the voice,

one
point of view, not all four.

SO245 Social Impact of Technology

Engl 20803 Lacefield

Items 1-6:
Following the Evaluation Criteria Lesson 1.
Elements of Organization
I. Opening paragraph: It needs a thesis statement and an organizing idea. It should end with a statement of significance.
IV. Closing paragraph: It needs a summary, a conclusion, and a hint of things to comeHint: If you end up writing the opening and closing of the paper at the end of the writing process, after you have written most of the two segments of the body of the paper, you would be right on task.
Two-part Body: II.
Note: This segment of the paper is basically a copy-and-paste from Paper 1. It has to be integrated into this new paper, Paper 2, but the basic content can be the same. Where I predict you will make some changes will be in II A and II E. Of course, you will make corrections and editing changes, but the content may be the same as Paper 1. A.
A sub-thesis statement about the American dream in general terms but also in the context of the novel, and an organizing idea that states in three sentences what the three ideas are in II. B, C, and D.
About 5-10 sentences.
II A needs to support the overall thesis in I A. Notice that II is developed at the information level using examples and description. B. What is the American dream in general terms (but be prepared to relate your description to the novel)? (General) This will be about 20 sentences. C. What is the American dream in the novel? (More specifically) About 20 sentences. D. Relate the American dream to characters in the novel. (Even more specifically) About 20 sentences. Note: II B, C, and D basically should be copied and pasted from Paper 1. E. A closing that contains a summary that will restate what was covered in II B, C, and D. About 5-10 sentences and a sub-conclusion, which will be a restatement of the sub thesis in II A. 2.
Methods of Development: Use description and example for this first segment (II) of the body of the paper.
Mode of Order: The overall mode of order for this segment of the paper is general-to-specific; however, consider what the mode of order is for each section within the segment as well.
5. Transitions: Note: You need a very short transitional paragraph of one or more sentences to make the transition from informational level development to analysis. Avoid making reference to technical terms such as information-level, analysis, cause, effect, etc., in doing so.
In other words, between II and III you need to write a one-sentence transitional paragraph that moves the reader from examples and description of the American dream to the consequences of the dream.
III. This segment of the paper is developed at the analy ...

(Assmt 1; Week 3 paper): Using ecree Doing the paper and submitting it (two pages here)
Have this sheet handy as well as the sheet called FORMAT SAMPLE PAPER for Assignment 1.
1. Go to the Week 3 unit and find the blue link ASSIGNMENT 1: DEALING WITH DIVERSITY…. Click on it.
2. You will see instructions on the screen and at the top “Assignment 1: ecree”. Click on that to enter ecree.
3. You will see some summary of the assignment instructions at the top of the screen—scroll down to see the three long, blank, rectangular boxes. You will be typing into those. Remember—do not worry about a title page or double spacing. Start composing your paragraphs. It will start as a rough draft.
4. As you start typing your introduction—notice on the right that comments start developing and also video links. Also on the right you will it say “Saved a Few seconds ago”. It is saving as you go. At first the comments are red (unfavorable). The more you do, usually the more green (favorable) comments start to appear. You can also keep revising.
5. When you hit the enter key it takes you to the next paragraph box—and sometimes it creates a new paragraph box for you.
6. Doing your Sources list in ecree—Your sources do have to be listed at the end. The FORMAT SAMPLE paper illustrates what they might look like. But, putting them in ecree gracefully can be a challenge.
a. Perhaps the best way is this: Have the last regular paragraph of your essay (Part 4) be in the box labeled “Conclusion”. Once that paragraph is written—in whole or in part, do this: Click on the word “Conclusion” to form a following paragraph box marked by three dots. Keep doing that and put each source in its own “three-dot” box. In other words, after your Conclusion paragraph—the heading “Sources” gets its own paragraph box at the end, followed by separate paragraph boxes for each source entry.
b. If the approach labeled “a” above is not working out, don’t worry about the external labels of those last paragraph boxes---just be sure to have a concluding paragraph (your Part 4) followed by paragraphs for the Sources header and each source entry. In grading, I will be able to figure it out. I will be lenient on how you organize that last part, as long as you have that last paragraph and a clear Sources list.
------------------------------------
UPLOAD OPTION: You can type your paper or a good rough draft of it into MS-Word as a file. Have it organized and laid out like the FORMAT SAMPLE paper. Then Upload it to ecree. Once you upload, take a little time and edit what uploaded so that it looks like what you intended and fits the 4-part organization of the assignment.
-----------------------
7. Click “Submit” on lower right only when absolutely ready. Once you submit, it will get graded.
Have fun! (see next page for a few notes and comments on ecree)

Mythology 2220 – Creative Assignment 1
This assignment is to be completed without assistance from other students and without outside research or internet searches. Both activities will be clear in your writing and will be considered plagiarism if detected. If you have any difficulty with the assignment, your first instinct should be to contact your TA or myself for assistance and NOT to start Googling.
You have two major tasks for this paper, each should take you no longer than a paragraph. Please be sure to follow the formatting instructions on the following page and make sure that you have read Hesiod's Theogony in full (pp. 88-105) before beginning.
Re-read the two creation accounts from Genesis (CM pp. 73-75). Ultimately, you will be finding three major similarities between Genesis and Hesiod and three major differences.
You should be specific here and you should make sure that Hesiod actually says what you think, so make sure that when you discuss the similarities and differences that you paraphrase and reference the appropriate passages in Hesiod (see citation style below).
Your first paragraph will discuss the three major similarities. For the conclusion of your first paragraph, you should advance two different possible theoretical explanations for the similarities. You are certainly welcome to be creative here and use your own intuition, but if you are stumped, a number of possible explanations have come either from information I have given you about the nature of myth, from the chapter on Hesiod's Theogony and its similarities in Near-Eastern mythology, or from the theories of chapter 2. You should conclude by mentioning which theory you find the most compelling and discussing how effective you think that it would be at explaining the whole text.
Your second paragraph will discuss the three major differences. Here too you will advance theories accounting for the differences BUT rather than be theoretical, I would like you to show two ways in which those differences can be explained by showing how the differences in Hesiod are representative of fundamental elements of Greek culture. Here I expect you to rely heavily upon chapter 1 and what you know of Greek society based on my 'Characteristics of Greek mythology' slides. In particular, you might want to consider the nature of Greek religion, any of the special characteristics of the Greek environment, your knowledge about rulers and politics, or anything else you might muster.
You should conclude by discussing whether you believe discussing the similarities or differences are more persuasive.

QuestionWas the pursuit of ideals or material gains more impo.docxsleeperharwell
Question:
Was the pursuit of ideals or material gains more important in shaping
the United States in the years before 1865? Answer this question in 2-3 pages using evidence that supports your position.
Explanation:
Throughout the first half of HIST 2010, we’ve covered a number of factors that have shaped the development of the United States from a collection of British Colonies into an independent and united political entity. The factors at work in this process can be grouped into two general categories: those driven by ideology (religion, political and other types of philosophical beliefs) and those driven by material concerns (land acquisition, the desire to accumulate wealth, etc). While there is no doubt that both types of factors were important in these years, do you find ideology or material concerns to be the
most
important? Pick one or the other and argue for that position. Make sure to use
plenty of evidence from the course readings.
Assignment Overview
:
You must back up your argument/thesis with
plenty of evidence
that supports your position. The purpose of this assignment is to show that you know and understand the material we’ve covered in this course, so you should include evidence from several readings and
use only the materials assigned for HIST 2010 (ie no outside sources).
In other words, you should do well to demonstrate that you know the material in this course. Anyone can give an opinion based on how they
feel
, but you are scholars, so what I expect is that you take an informed position that is based on what you
can prove with evidence
. If you choose to turn in a paper with few sources to back up your thesis, then you choose to receive a poor grade on this paper. Papers that draw only a single source will receive a maximum grade of a D.
In order to receive full credit for this assignment, you must turn in
both
of the following to the dropbox on D2L.
-A typed copy of your paper
-An audio copy of you reading your paper
***- Your assignment will not be considered fully submitted until you have turned in both of these.
Required Guidelines:
(You can use this as a check list before you turn in your paper)
-Your paper must have a title page that includes your name, course, and section number, and the semester. This page does not count toward the limit. Your paper should begin on the first line of the page that follows your title page.
-The paper must be in 12 point Times New Roman font with 1.25” margins at left and right and 1” margins at top an bottom. It must be double-spaced. Failing to meet these requirements will lead to a deduction in your grade.
-You may only use sources assigned for this course. Though there are many great sources out there, an important part of this assignment is showing me that you’ve read the materials I’ve assigned and understand them well enough to use them in your paper.
-If you plagiarize on this paper, you will be given a failing grade for the course and you will.

How to write successful essays for History 1302
Different Types of Essays
In your history courses you might write different types of essays.
Most of them involve description of events, discussion of ideas, summarization of information, and analysis or evaluation.
Analysis might involve classifying, comparing and contrasting, explaining causes and effects, exploring a topic's history, or describing a process.
Or, you might be asked to write an essay that explains the effects of something: the effects of a war, of a law, of a social movement.
Sometimes you may need to take a stan.

Unit V Project
Portfolio Project 3:
The third portfolio entry requires the construction of a document that reflects the information you have learned in Unit V.
The assignment will also test your ability to think critically about the concepts within the unit. This portfolio entry should be in one word document with proper headings for each section.
This project allows you to develop some interviewing skills, generate tables, create a timeline, and write a debate. These different mini projects allow you to think outside of the box of the traditional assignment and assessment format, stretching your academic capabilities and applying them to the sociology discipline.
1. Ask five people how they would define racism, religion, and family, and then summarize the definitions. Identify the similarities and differences in the definitions. Provide your own definitions of each and how they relate to each other.
a. You can use any means you want to interview people. Social media (Facebook, Twitter,
etc.), email, or personal interviews are all acceptable.
2. Generate a table with a list of the different patterns of interaction between minority and majority groups. The table should have three columns:
a. One column for the models
b. One column providing three facts about each model
c. One column providing two different examples for each model
3. Develop a K-W-L table for each of the racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Create three columns for each table with the following categories: What I KNOW (K), what I WANT to know (W), and what I LEARNED (L).
Complete the “K” and “W” sections, listing at least three things you know and three things that you want to know about each of the racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Then, perform research on the different associated cultures, and list three things you learned about the different cultures, and fill them in the “L” section.
4. Create a timeline listing the different stages of family life. Make note of any events, significant milestones, or problems that may occur.
5. Argue both sides (supporting and rejecting) the following statement in one to two paragraphs: The religions in the world will never get along because they are too different.
Soc1010: Unit V Project
The third portfolio entry requires the construction of a document that reflects the information you have learned in Unit V. See the course syllabus for the assignment overview.
Important Note: This assignment is time consuming and a little complex. It is more manageable if you break it down into parts.
Please do not hesitate to ask me questions about this assignment. It is confusing and often students run into trouble with this one! Also, see below. I have reduced the requirements for the KWL table.

1. Utilizing Financial Markets (5 points)
As a financial manager of a large firm, you plan to borrow $70 million over the next year.
c. What are the more likely alternatives for you to borrow $70 million?
b. Assuming that you decide to issue debt securities, describe the types of financial institutions that may purchase these securities.
c. How do individuals indirectly provide the financing for your firm when they maintain deposits at depository institutions, invest in mutual funds, purchase insurance policies, or invest in pensions?
2. Flow of Funds (5 points)
Carson Company is a large manufacturing firm in California that was created 20 years ago by the Carson family. It was initially financed with an equity investment by the Carson family and ten other individuals. Over time, Carson Company has obtained substantial loans from finance companies and commercial banks. The interest rate on the loans is tied to market interest rates, and is adjusted every six months. Thus, Carson’s cost of obtaining funds is sensitive to interest rate movements. It has a credit line with a bank in case it suddenly needs to obtain funds for a temporary period. It has purchased Treasury securities that it could sell if it experiences any liquidity problems.
Carson Company has assets valued at about $50 million and generates sales of about $100 million per year. Some of its growth is attributed to its acquisitions of other firms. Because of its expectations of a strong U.S. economy, Carson plans to grow in the future by expanding its business and through acquisitions. It expects that it will need substantial long-term financing, and plans to borrow additional funds either through loans or by issuing bonds. It is also considering the issuance of stock to raise funds in the next year. Carson closely monitors conditions in financial markets that could affect its cash inflows and cash outflows and thereby affect its value.
a. In what way is Carson a surplus unit?
b. In what way is Carson a deficit unit?
c. How might Carson use the primary market to facilitate its expansion?
d. How might it use the secondary market?
3. Regulation of Financial Institutions (5 points)
Financial institutions are subject to regulations to ensure that they do not take excessive risk and they can safely facilitate the flow of fun.

7.2. Module 7.2: Items 1-6 Evaluation Criteria
Remember to check Evaluation Criteria in Modules

Rubric (5 grade points total):
Paragraph One:
Articulates major similarity between Hesiod and Genesis #1(.25)

I have reduced the requirements for the KWL table.

c. What are the more likely alternatives for you to borrow $70 million?
b. Assuming that you decide to issue debt securities, describe the types of financial institutions that may purchase these securities.

1. Prepare a bank reconciliation.
2. Journalize the necessary entries. The accounts have not been closed.
The cash account for Interactive Systems at February 28, 2010, indicated a balance of
$7,635. The bank statement indicated a balance of $13,333 on February 28, 2010.
Comparing the bank statement and the accompanying canceled checks and memos
with the records reveals the following reconciling items:
a. Checks outstanding totaled $4,118.
b. A deposit of $4,500, representing receipts of February 28, had been made too late to
appear on the bank statement.
c. The bank had collected $5,200 on a note left for collection. The face of the note was
$5,000.
d. A check for $290 returned with the statement had been incorrectly recorded by
Interactive Systems as $920. The check was for the payment of an obligation to Busser
Co. for the purchase of office supplies on account.
e. A check drawn for $415 had been incorrectly charged by the bank as $145.
f. Bank service charges for February amounted to $20.

Part A (a 1 ½ page response is required)
Objective: Explain the approaches to ethics and social responsibility
MKD Transportation owns and operates a fleet of container ships and tankers that transport goods around the globe. Company executives have just been contacted by the media with a credible report that one of their ships is leaking an oily substance off the coast of Belize. If true, some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs could be in danger. On the other hand, the captain of the ship in question has not notified the company of any problem, and cleanup could be very costly. Environmental groups and the government of Belize have demanded that the company admit responsibility and immediately begin cleanup.
Managers at MKD claim to exercise ethical behavior toward their employees. Describe three (3) matters this behavior might cover.
What might the general public begin to think about MKD's responsibilities toward the environment? Provide one (1) example.
If MKD adopts an obstructionist stance, how will the company respond to this media report? Provide one (1) supporting fact.
If MKD adopts a defensive stance, how will the company respond to this situation? Provide one (1) supporting fact.
If MKD adopts an accommodative stance, how will the company respond to the media and demands by the government of Belize and environmental groups? Provide one (1) supporting fact.
How might this situation have been different in the event that MKD had initially adopted a proactive stance to social responsibility? Provide one (1) supporting fact.
Part B (a ½ page response is required)
Objective: Describe pricing strategies for a product
Describe one (1) example of a situation in which a company might adopt a pricing objective other than profit maximization. Provide two (2) supporting facts.

Your Deputy Chief of Police advises you that one of your officers was investigated for inappropriate use of one of the computers in the patrol division. As a result of this internal investigation, it was determined that the officer used this computer to search pornographic web sites. When confronted with this allegation, the officer denied any knowledge of this incident. Upon further investigation, the computer crimes analyst determined that the officer’s logon password was used to enter the unauthorized web sites. The officer then admitted to his wrongdoing and stated it would never happen again. This officer has been with your organization for 15 years, and the only other disciplinary action taken against him was for being involved in an at fault traffic accident 10 years ago. InstructionsFor this assignment propose a scenario where you.docxaltheaboyer
Instructions
For this assignment propose a scenario where you or someone you know is confronted with a moral dilemma relating to cultural diversity and multiculturalism. It cannot be the same as what has covered in the week one discussion.
Cultural diversity refers to religious, sexual, racial, and other forms of social difference. A moral dilemma is a situation in which one must make a decision between two or more options such that the options involve seemingly ethical and/or unethical conduct. Address the following questions:
What was the situation? What did the dilemma involve?
What would a subjective moral relativist say is the right approach to the dilemma? Why would that kind of relativist say that?
What would a cultural relativist say is the right approach to the dilemma? Why would that kind of relativist say that? Is that approach correct?
What did you the person confronting the dilemma decide to do? What moral justification did they give? Is that approach morally correct?
Was there an objective moral truth (the objectively right thing to do) in this situation? Why or why not?
Remember, the dilemma should be detailed with description and dialogue. Regard the questions as requirements. This is an essay, so rather than simply providing a list of brief answers to questions, provide an in-depth reflection regarding a difficult ethical situation.
Cite the textbook and incorporate outside sources, including citations.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Instructions and Study Question for Essay TestFor the essay .docx
1. Instructions and Study Question for Essay Test
For the essay test, you will need to develop and submit a
detailed essay on either (1) four important similarities between
the U.S. Constitution and the Articles of Confederation or (2)
the first political party system, as given in the formal questions
below. Your answer will be worth up to 100 points for the one
question you decide to choose. You will need to observe the
normal essay format of introduction, body, and conclusion AND
you will need to
put the word count at the bottom of the essay
. (By typing your essay first in Word for cutting and pasting
into the essay test, you can get the word count easily in Word,
before putting in the citation references
.) The essay must be about
1,000
words
(can vary only between 950 and 1,050 words, not counting the
citation references). You will also need to follow the
documentation and other requirements below.
You will actually have as much time as you need to develop
your answer if you develop it in Word first and then cut and
paste it into the essay question block. Technically, you will
have an hour to cut and paste it, but it should not take you that
long.
However,
BE SURE TO PROOFREAD
your submitted essay to ensure the required underlining and
other features were fully transferred.
If not, you will have to put the underlining and other features in
2. manually as part of your proofread.
Your efforts will be evaluated based on how well and how
comprehensively you answer the question, the quality of the
quotes/passages from Cogbooks (bolded and underlined in
quotes and followed by the citation in parentheses (Unit, Goal
#, Subgoal # if any, Paragraph # and Sentence # or alternate
format--see discussion on second page below), and whether you
followed instructions.
NOTE:
Essays without quotes and citations from Cogbooks will lose 50
points, in addition to other deductions for essay weaknesses
.
SPECIFIC DOCUMENTATION AND OTHER
REQUIREMENTS:
Book:
You must use Cogbooks in order to pass this test, due to the
50-point deduction described above for not providing quotes
and location citation references from Cogbooks. Other sources
are not acceptable. You may cite the Articles of Confederation
and U.S. Constitution (article and section) for the constitution
question, but this will not dismiss the requirement to use
at least a total of ten (10) quotes from Cogbooks in your answer
(see below).
Number of Paragraphs and Words
:
You must follow the instructions on the number of paragraphs
and words for your answer. Some paragraphs should be long
paragraphs (10-12 sentences), while others can be short
paragraphs (6-7 sentences). The total number of words as
counted by the Word Program (
before putting in the citation references
3. ) must be about 1,000 words (between 950 and 1,050 words),
again,
not counting the citation references
. There must be an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Bolding, Underlining, Quotation Marks, and Citation
References Required
:
You need to document your essay carefully with at least
ten (10) bolded and underlined quotes in quotation marks of
passages from Cogbooks, followed by the citation reference in
parentheses or the alternate format discussed below.
USE
BOLD TYPE,
UNDERLINING
AND
QUOTATION MARKS FOR THE QUOTES (ALL THREE).
DO NOT USE WHOLE PARAGRAPHS OR LONG
SENTENCES FROM COGBOOKS, JUST PORTIONS OF
SENTENCES THAT CONTAIN THE MAIN IDEA THAT YOU
ARE DOCUMENTING. Spread your quotes evenly throughout
your essay.
You and I are both aware that Cogbooks does not have page
numbers due to the interactive nature of the book, but there are
unit numbers, and goals and subgoals on the left hand side of
the screen for each unit. For each quote you use (
in quotation marks AND bold type AND underlined
), you will need to give the location of the citation using the
Unit # (e.g., Unit #1), the Goal #, the Subgoal # if any, the
paragraph number, and the sentence number. Your location
citation must look something like the ones used in the example
below, unless you use the alternate format of putting the
references after the essay (as discussed below):
4. Lincoln is an interesting case in point. He was an excellent
politician, but also a great storyteller with unusual behavior.
Ginsberg notes, “
He often told funny stories in his speeches
.” (Unit #7, Subsection 7.1, Goal #3 of 15, Subgoal #2,
paragraph 4, sentence 3) Beyond his politics and storytelling,
Lincoln “
also believed in the occult, actually holding séances in the
White House”
(Unit #7, Subsection 7.2, Goal #2 of 11, Subgoal #1, paragraph
1, sentence 5) in an attempt to reach his son who died during
the Civil War.
Note that the
bolded and underlined quotes with quotation marks
are the facts gleaned from the book, and they were found (not
really—only an example) in Unit #7, Subsection 7.1 and 7.2,
Goals # 3 of 15 and #1 of 11, Subgoals #2 and #1, paragraphs 4
and 1, sentences 3 and 5, respectively. REMINDER: Whatever
quotes you use from the book, again, you need to
use bold type AND underline them AND enclose them in
quotation marks and follow the quotation with the location
citation in parentheses: the Unit number, subsection number,
Goal number, Subgoal number, paragraph number, and sentence
number
.
You can vary the citation a little if your quote is from a bullet
list, or a picture caption, or some other location where the
normal citation does not work well.
Where to Find the Goal # and Subgoal #:
When you click on a Unit, you are immediately taken to Goal
#1 of the Total Number of Goals (e.g., Goal 1 of 15), which is
the first “major page” that you need to read. At the
left
of your screen, you will see the Goals and the titles of these
5. major pages. (You may need to expand the subsection number to
show these, by clicking on the two arrows pointing at each other
at a 45-degrees angle.) When you answer that you have not
understood everything and drag the indicator only about 0% -
5%, you will be taken to each “subpage” or Subgoal of a Goal.
As long as you answer you did not understand it all (0% - 5%)
of a subpage, you will be taken to another subpage until you
have seen them all or they start repeating. Then you go on to
another Goal, and do the same thing, to make sure you see all
the major pages (Goals) and subpages (Subgoals) and are able to
answer all of your Study Questions for the tests.
Cogbooks does not number the Goals and Subgoals for you.
Cogbooks does tell you how many
Goals
there are in each Unit, such as 16 Goals in Unit #1.
You have to count down to the Goal you are quoting from, and
then down to any Subgoal you are quoting from.
For example, if you count down on the left of your screen to the
fifth Goal and then to the fourth Subgoal under the fifth Goal,
then your citation would include the Unit #, the Subsection #
(e.g. Subsection 4.1 for Unit #4), then
Goal #5, Subgoal #4
, paragraph # (in the Subgoal), and sentence # (in the paragraph
of the Subgoal).
ALTERNATE FORMAT:
If you fear you might miscount the goals or subgoals (and be
marked down for it), you have the option of putting a number in
parentheses in your essay where each citation would go, such as
(1), (2), etc. and then writing all of your citations at the end of
your essay, from (1) to at least (10), because there has to be at
6. least 10 quotes.
In this format, you can use the titles of the Goals as well as the
titles of your Subgoals in addition to the Goal and Subgoal
numbering.
Such citation would read as follows (using Unit #1, Subsection
1.1, Goal #1, Subgoal #3, paragraph 2, sentence 1 as an actual
example):
(1)
Unit #1, Subsection 1.1, Goal #1 of 16 “The First Americans:
Meso- and South America,” Subgoal #3 “Bishop Diego de
Landa:
Destroyer of Codices,” paragraph 2, sentence 1.
(2)
ETC. FOR EACH QUOTATION.
ESSAY QUESTION: PICK
ONE
OF THESE TWO QUESTIONS
You have the choice of answering either (not both—only one) of
the questions below:
1.
Discuss in detail four (4)
important
similarities of the Articles of Confederation and the new U.S.
Constitution.
7. Essay Structure:
Devote one or more paragraphs to each of the following
