This document outlines the agenda and schedule for the last few weeks of an English composition class. It discusses wrapping up discussions on global issues and Madonnas, reviewing thesis statements and MLA formatting, and providing guidance on outlining and drafting the final papers. Students are expected to write an outline for their second paper that is due on Canvas by noon on Friday and includes a potential thesis, topics for each body paragraph, and an evidence quote for each. The following week will focus on revising the second paper and drafting the third paper, with the entire final portfolio due on March 21st.

In The Madonnas of Echo Park, Aurora describes how she fell in
love with English pop culture—especially the singer Morrissey.
She says, “If second-generation Mexicans could canonize a living
saint in Los Angeles, it’d be Morrissey. Like most of the Mexican
girls and gay boys I knew, I went through a vicious, life-
consuming Morrissey phase in high school, one that for a period
of time made me hate the queen of England and Margaret
Thatcher more than I hated the Los Angeles Police Department”
(Skyhorse 155). Aurora is saying that her love of Morrissey was,
in some ways, very traditionally Mexican. However, at the same
time, it also made her care more about the politics of England
than her own city. This shows how pop culture can connect and
disconnect us from our communities at the same time. Through
pop culture, it is possible to identify with people different from
you, while still remaining yourself.

 Your outline should include (if possible—but submit whatever you can come up
with):
 1. A possible thesis statement for your paper. What is the main point you want
to make in your paper? (Make sure your main point responds to the prompt.)
 2. A list of the body paragraphs you think you will need in your essay and what
the point you want to make in each body paragraph will be.
 3. For each proposed body paragraph in your outline, include a quote from
that book that you will use as evidence in that body paragraph. Don’t forget
to include the page number.
 You will need to pay attention to MY FEEDBACK on Canvas for this assignment.
