2. WHAT IS A MUSIC MAGAZINE?
A music magazine is a magazine dedicated specifically to music
and music culture, using a range of text and images. These
magazines usually include music news, interviews, photo shoots,
song reviews, concert reviews. Depending on the genre, music
magazines are aimed at a variety of target audiences.
3. WHAT CONTENT WOULD YOU EXPECT TO FIND
IN A MUSIC MAGAZINE?
Music magazines typically include music news, interviews, photo
shoots, song reviews and concert reviews. Sometimes
magazines include a cover mount, such as a demo of a
song/album.
4. WHAT IMAGES WOULD YOU EXPECT TO FIND IN
A MUSIC MAGAZINE?
Due to many of the articles being interviews, you would
expect to find images of the singer/songwriter/band, either in
front of a blank background or in a specific area, such as a
concert arena, in order to introduce mise-en-scene through
the representation of music. These would be clearly
highlighted as to what article they relate to. You may also find
images of recommended concert arenas or places holding a
festival. Whilst additional images may include album covers
and merchandise.
5. IDENTIFY GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS THAT
YOU WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IN ALL MUSIC
MAGAZINES.
Typically you would expect to see a range of both text and
images. Like any other genre of magazine, it would have a
main image presented on the cover, which would usually be of
the musician that is featuring in the magazine. This would be
linked to a main cover line to give an incite into the
interview/article, encouraging the intended target audience to
purchase the magazine. Alongside the main image and cover
lines, there would be a clear colour scheme and masthead.
Both of these conventional features, allow a magazine to
emphasises consistency, so that it may develop a house style.
Once this house style becomes recognisable, a magazine
may become branded.
