This is my initial ideas document for my music magazine's double-page spread, as part of my AS Media Coursework.

1. Initial Ideas for Double-Page Spread
 Focus of the article.
Since the genre of my musicmagazine is Hip-Hop/Rap music, I have decidedtouse a standardand
conventional topic,whichis feuds(oras theyare often referredtoas, “beefs”inthe worldof rap
music).A feudbetweentworappershave oftencapturedheadlinesinvariousmusicoutlets,suchas
MTV Newsandvariousmusicmagazine because oftenthe sheerextenttowhichrappersfightisvery
large and isoftentakento personal levels,suchasthe “beef”betweenEminemandJaRule,who
insultedEminem’smother,ex-wifeanddaughter,whichforcedEminemintoretaliatingwithasong
that focusedoninsultingJaRule (titled“Hailey’sRevenge”).
Feudsare oftenbroughtup inrap due to the egosof rappersintoday’s context andin the previous
decades.Whenitcomesto mymagazine,Iwouldwantto create a feudbetweentwopseudo
rappers,basedonvariousfeudcontextsIsee onthe Internet.
My opinionis thatfeudsare veryentertaininginaudience psychologyanditwouldintriguethem
more;withthe creationof my two rappers,Iwill make theirpersonalitiesdifferentandtheirreasons
for the fightslightlyambiguous,andIwouldalsowanttoincorporate all the typesof feud
conventionsin rapsuchas: Insultingsongsagainstone andother, Personal levelsof dispute and
fightsbetweencliques.
 Interview
I will notinclude aninterviewinmyarticle, insteadIwouldlike toinsertquotesfromthese created
artistsand provide the audience witha‘story’/ ‘overview’of the ongoingfeudbetweenthese two
artists,withdramaticlanguage andclearimagesrelatedtothe storyline.
Essentiallyaninterviewwouldbe biased,if structuredforone person…andIwantto make this
article unbiased because Iwantbothperspectivesfromthe rapperstobe toldso thatthe audiences
can get involvedandside withwhoevertheychoose basedonthe rapper’scase.Itoftendoescreate
drama (intermsof dispute) if peoplestartsidingwiththeserappers.
From myresearch I feel that,an interview cantell one person’sstoryandcompletelydismaythe
otherperson’scase,andso there isno clearauthenticationtoitandit reflectsonwhetherthe
magazine isbiasedornot.Addingtwoperspectiveswithquotes willallow me towrite aclearand
concise storythat will reflectonbothrappers,andgrasp the attentionof the readerbymakingitas
dramaticas possible.
 Ideas for Images
I planto ensure thatmy imagesconnote a deepermeaning,throughoutmydouble page spreadto
clearlyindicate thatthere isa feudgoingonbetweenthe tworappers. Also,frommyaudience
researchI understandthattheymay‘flick’throughthe magazine firstbeforefullyengagingwiththe
textand thusmy symbolicimagessupportthis.
I wantthe audience toclearlyunderstandwhatthe pictures representandwhythese pictures
resemble thatthere isafeudbetweenthe twopeople soIwill needtouse astandard and
stereotypical approachto these images.Iwill have twoimagesof the differentrappers(anditwill
have the effectof the audience beingable toclearlyidentifythembecause mytwomodelswill be
portrayingtwoverysuccessful rapperswithmultipleaccoladesandhitsingles/records).

2. Theywill be wearingthe twodifferenttypesof styles,one of themwillrepresentthe ghettorapper
whohas livedahard life andstruggledtomake itto fame (i.e.Eminem, Ice Cube,50Cent,Dr Dre
etc.) and the secondrapperwill be a wealthyrapperwith a lot of jewellery(or“bling”), leather
jacketsandexpensiveclothing(i.e.A$APRocky,A$APFerg,Drake etc.). Theywill be standing
sidewaysinthe opposite direction(sothattheyare turnedawayfrom eachother,whichrepresents
that theydon’tacknowledge each other) andtheywillbe lookingtowardsthe front,asinto
emphasise arelationshipwiththe readerof the magazine.Theywillbe indifferentendsof the
magazine,one onthe leftandone on the right.

My final sketchforthe double-page spreadwill feature all the differentaspectsIhave changedfrom
the draft stagesand the actual colours,fontsand backgroundsIintendtoput.
I feel thatforthe final draft,Ishouldmake sure thatall the space inthe double-page spreadisused
up.
 Ideas for Brand Identity
Brand Identityisveryimportantwhenitcomesto my readersbeingable toidentifywhatmagazine
theyare reading.Iacclaimthe use of brandidentityfrom‘Empire’Magazine,(althoughthis isafilm
magazine – I am usingthismagazine asan example becauseof itsclearbrandidentity) Empire use a
masthead of theirname on everypage andtheyalsouse a similar formatfor theircontentspage
(withthe same fontand lettering).Iwill be takinginspirationfromEmpire anduse mymagazine
name on the footerof each page,as well asuse the same font style throughoutthe magazine (in
mostcases) to ensure brandidentity.The use of mymagazine name oneachpage will assure
audiencesof brand identity.
