INTERPRETAÇÃO DE TEXTO
The fact that English is used in so many different countries in the world, both as a first language and as a second or
additional language, means that many varieties of English now exist. These include British English, American English,
Australian English, New Zealand English, Canadian English, Indian English, South African English, and many more. These
varieties originate from the two main varieties of British English and American English. Therefore, there is no longer a
single standard English. Instead there are various standard Englishes linked to British and American English. Each of
these varieties is a different ‘standard English’. This means that they are the varieties which carry high social status in
their settings, and which are often used as models for education.
Although the varieties of English have slight differences of spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, they are still fairly similar,
and are mutually intelligible (i.e. each variety can be clearly understood by speakers of a different variety).

Brazilian Portuguese is the national language in Brazil. This means that it is the main language used in government, the
media, education and so on. Brazil also has some indigenous languages, such as Guarani, which are spoken by a small
number of people in certain regions. English as a foreign language has been taught in private language schools as well as
in government schools in Brazil for a number of years now. Teachers feel students in Brazil need to learn English
because it is used for internationa communication and will help the country in its trade links with the rest of the world.
It will also help Brazil to keep up to date with the latest developments in science and technology, which are mostly
reported in English. Although people don’t need to use English in their day-to-day life in Brazil, many will need English if
they go on to higher education or work for large companies one day.

Inglês 3º-ano-trabalho

  • 1. MATÉRIA: Inglês PROFESSOR: Elisângela SÉRIE: 3º Ano TIPO: Trabalho de Recuperação INTERPRETAÇÃO DE TEXTO The fact that English is used in so many different countries in the world, both as a first language and as a second or additional language, means that many varieties of English now exist.
