Investigating Perpetual Access

Effective management of microdata acknowledges that there is no ‘single fix’ that will adequately address all of the potential risks associated with releasing unit record information. It is also the case that different methods used to maximise data security have different risks and all data confidentialisation methods limit the usefulness of the underlying data [1]. We have developed an approach to data management and release that takes a balanced view of potential re-identification or disclosure threats and prioritises data utility while actively addressing more probable risk scenarios. This balanced approach to risk management will be discussed in relation to the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) which is conducted every three years to measure children’s development as then enter their first year of formal schooling. AEDC data is collected through a teacher-completed, online checklist that measures five areas of early childhood development. Issues relating to risk and the research community, data management risk mitigation strategies, microdata access modalities and the implications of sharing the risk between academics and the data custodians will be explored.

Software is increasingly crucial to scholarship, yet the visibility and usefulness of software in the scientific record is in question. Just as with data, the visibility of software in publications is related to incentives to share software in re-usable ways, and so promote efficient science. In this paper we examine software in publications through content analysis of a random sample of 90 biology articles. We develop a coding scheme to identify software “mentions,” and classify them according to their characteristics and ability to realize the functions of citations. Overall we find diverse and problematic practices: only between 31–43% of mentions involve formal citations; informal mentions are very common, even in high impact factor journals and across different kinds of software. Software is frequently inaccessible (15–29% of packages in any form; between 90–98% of specific versions; only between 24–40% provide source code). Cites to publications are particularly poor at providing version information, while informal mentions are particularly poor at providing crediting information. We provide recommendations to improve the practice of software citation, highlighting recent nascent efforts. Software plays an increasingly great role in scientific practice; it deserves a clear and useful place in scholarly communication.

Many organizations use the electronic health record as a means of organizing data and information about a patient (Lee, 2011). This utilizes the emerging information technology. The main purpose of these systems is to meet the various needs of safe, readily available and retrievable information by the health care providers, the patients and their beneficiaries. This is a current issue and it implementation in the health care organizations involves many parameters and it is also very complex. There are many issues regarding its usability and effects on managed care. Research regarding this issue will be beneficial and useful to address the questions regarding its usability. Currently, the electronic health record is being used by about 11% of hospitals in the nation and by about 12% of physicians nationwide. The health care industry and the government are key promoters of the records system as a means to improve patient care and to control costs. The current President of the United States, Barrack Obama has made this issue on of his main agenda and he wants to ensure that the investment necessary to make sure that all the medical records in America are computerized in the few coming years goes through. However, with the current advancements in globalization, the EHR is highly not likely to advance in the coming five years. Industry advances, governmental advance and technical advance will drive EHR to the medical providers. Electronic Health Record system refers to a digital patient health information record that is generated my more than one encounters in the setting of care delivery (Lee, 2011). Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity, mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate, and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria). The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S., the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD, comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and pharmacotherapies for AUD.

This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma. STATEMENT OF NEED Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL. Target Audience Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Learning Objectives 1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL 2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults 3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection
