Metadata management is critical for organizations looking to understand the context, definition and lineage of key data assets. Data models play a key role in metadata management, as many of the key structural and business definitions are stored within the models themselves. Can data models replace traditional metadata solutions? Or should they integrate with larger metadata management tools & initiatives? Join this webinar to discuss opportunities and challenges around:
- How data modeling fits within a larger metadata management landscape
- When can data modeling provide “just enough” metadata management
- Key data modeling artifacts for metadata

Exploring Automatic Metadata Generation Based on SharePoint Term SetsConcept Searching, Inc
Many software products perform metadata capture and auto-classification, but SharePoint on-premises and SharePoint Online do not. Surveys indicate that the use of term sets is growing. Ideally, auto-classification of content to a taxonomy or to the SharePoint Term Store should be automatic and synchronized in real time.
This approach enables modification and fine tuning of data in a robust, secure, enterprise solution, which automatically populates term sets and eliminates the significant amount of development time typically needed. This session will discuss the different approaches to metadata generation – such as statistical, linguistic, and machine learning. And it will explore how automatically generating metadata adds value to all your SharePoint content, and automatically populates managed metadata properties.
You will learn:
* The benefits of metadata based on SharePoint term set structures.
* How you can manage term set GUIDs between farms.
* The relationship between managed metadata properties in SharePoint and document properties in Office documents.
* How to improve findability, regardless of which version of SharePoint you are using.
* What considerations you should give to scalability.

Data Systems Integration & Business Value Pt. 1: MetadataDATAVERSITY
Certain systems are more data focused than others. Usually their primary focus is on accomplishing integration of disparate data. In these cases, failure is most often attributable to the adoption of a single pillar (silver bullet). The three webinars in the Data Systems Integration and Business Value series are designed to illustrate that good systems development more often depends on at least three DM disciplines (pie wedges) in order to provide a solid foundation.
Much of the discussion of metadata focuses on understanding it and the associated technologies. While these are important, they represent a typical tool/technology focus and this has not achieved significant results to date. A more relevant question when considering pockets of metadata is: Whether to include them in the scope organizational metadata practices. By understanding what it means to include items in the scope of your metadata practices, you can begin to build systems that allow you to practice sophisticated ways to advance their data management and supported business initiatives. After a bit of practice in this manner you can position your organization to better exploit any and all metadata technologies.
The Slippery Slope of Migrating to SharePoint Online or On-PremiseAdam Levithan
SharePoint migrations rarely turn out as you plan them, are sometimes risky, and too often take longer than planned. Over the last 10 years of migrating from SharePoint 2003, 2007, 2010 to the latest versions of SharePoint/Office 365, we’ve seen a consistent theme: organizations underestimate the complexity and level of effort required for a successful migration.
Whether you are planning to complete your own migration, or engaging a vendor to assist, this tutorial will discuss precautions you can take to avoid the slippery slope experienced in SharePoint migrations.
During this tutorial, we will:
•Evaluate options of moving content from various systems of origin (including previous versions of SharePoint and non-Microsoft CMS)
•Go through the assessment steps to understand the full landscape of your existing environment
•Review methodologies for moving content from one environment to the next
•Review a check list of precautions you should take in migrating to either SharePoint 2013 on-premise or online
•Create a migration strategy you can take back to your organization

Bot involves providing various self-service capabilities, with the convenience of anytime and anywhere access to their data, often from social channels, using voice and messaging without any additional development such as Skype, Slack, Facebook Messenger and so forth. Let’s discuss how we activate Microsoft bot features within our SPFx Apps.
“A survey of corporate CIOs and general counsels found that, typically, 69% of the data most organizations keep can – and should – be deleted.”
Compliance, Governance and Oversight Counsel (CGOC) Summit
So what happens to the 69%? Most likely it will get migrated with no rhyme or reason. Just because it seems easier. And the organization is still left with mismanaged, useless information. That’s only one migration scenario. Migrations can be fraught with delays, budget overruns, and overall frustration. Register for this practical and informative webinar on March 25th, sponsored by Portal Solutions and Concept Searching and learn how you can eliminate migration challenges and reach the pinnacle of success.
What you will take away:
• Learn from Portal Solutions, an industry recognized SharePoint firm, the best practices and processes to approach migration
• Understand the key challenges that need to be overcome before migration
• Obtain buy-in and build the business case on why migration adds value and does not just move content from one place to another
• Take away a clear vision of the steps involved during migration and the phases to be accomplished
• Hear about Intelligent Migration technologies using conceptClassifier for SharePoint
• See how the technology is a key component in a migration solution
• Find the ROI of using one set of technologies to facilitate the migration process, and deploy metadata enabled solutions for search, content management, data protection, records management, and any application that uses metadata.
Building an Innovative Learning Ecosystem at Scale with Graph TechnologiesEnterprise Knowledge

DITA has the potential to add tremendous utility to high-value content for the enterprise. Before embarking on a DITA transformation project, organizations must first take a step back to examine their requirements for utility, maintainability, and usability of their content. This means not putting the technology cart before the horse. This session will take a brief look back at exploratory work conducted by the Business Documents Subcommittee of the DITA TC and how tools and methods have evolved since. We will examine the value of useful semantic markup and models for the enterprise and talk about several DITA projects involving non-traditional users and audiences.

Relevancy and Search Quality Analysis - By Mark David and Avi Rappoport
The Manifold Path to Search Quality
To achieve accurate search results, we must come to an understanding of the three pillars involved.
1. Understand your data
2. Understand your customers’ intent
3. Understand your search engine
The first path passes through Data Analysis and Text Processing.
The second passes through Query Processing, Log Analysis, and Result Presentation.
Everything learned from those explorations feeds into the final path of Relevancy Ranking.
Search quality is focused on end users finding what they want -- technical relevance is sometimes irrelevant! Working with the short head (very frequent queries) has the most return on investment for improving the search experience, tuning the results, for example, to emphasize recent documents or de-emphasize archive documents, near-duplicate detection, exposing diverse results in ambiguous situations, using synonyms, and guiding search via best bets and auto-suggest. Long-tail analysis can reveal user intent by detecting patterns, discovering related terms, and identifying the most fruitful results by aggregated behavior. all this feeds back into the regression testing, which provides reliable metrics to evaluate the changes.
By merging these insights, you can improve the quality of the search overall, in a scalable and maintainable fashion.

10. People try to develop their own folder structures. A folder-based organization doesn’t scale. 10
11. Some of the facts…
•Unstructured content = 80% or more of all content
•Need to add structure to make it useful
•Information is about meaning, semantics
•Search is about semantics, not technology
•Can’t Google do it?
•Link Algorithm –human act of meaning
•Doesn’t work in enterprise
•1,000’s of editors adding meaning
•New technology makes it possible –Text Analytics

METADATA

21. User Centered Design
21
Optimizing SharePoint to be designed around how users can, want, or need to use it, rather than forcing them to change their behavior to accommodate it.
23. Card Sorting Exercise Types
•Opencard sorting allows participants to create and name their own categories. Using the open card sorting method allows you to see how participants mentally classify the cards and what terms they use as categories.
•Closedcard sorting allows you to set and name your categories. This helps you evaluate if the category names you set provides an effective way of organizing content.
•Hybridcard sorting is a mix of the open and closed card sorting methods. You can set predetermined categories, but if a participant cannot find a suitable category to sort a card, you can allow participants to create their own category during the survey.

25. Card Sorting Exercise Steps
1.Identify and label the cards (approx. 50).
2.Ask users to sort the cards in the order that makes sense to them.
