3. Why did we introduce Multi
! FCC:
! IT subjects in the school decreasing
! Option for “less academic students” originally, but this
changed
! Attract girls
! PMHS:
! No problems with Girls
! Huge IT focus in school
4. Resources
ESNET: Engineering Studies Network
IndTechMulti: Google Group
CSTeachers: Yahoo Group
IIATE Industrial Arts Association

CSU Online (www.hsc.csu.edu.au)
Delicious/Diigo bookmarks for tutorials
Youtube/itunesU
Textbook:
Rochford (Industrial Technology) is mainly for timber
Multimedia Making it Work th Ed (Tay Vaughn) - pretty good
American resource
5.
6. Inservices
! Every year IIATE runs an Industrial Technology
Seminar Day. It is excellent and you can take
students as well. Each attendee gets a booklet and
lunch.
7. Beginning the Year in IndTech
• What if you have another IndTech in your school
e.g. Timber?
o workingtogether on assessments, marking and
resources. Remember this is ONE cohort!
• Make sure you get the ranking right in assessments
(teacher communication is important here)
• Need consistancy with tasks/marking. General tasks not
multi specific. Look at how the BOS do it - range of skill,
depth of skill.
• Multiple major works - no double up of content (art, DT
etc.) Double dipping is bad.
8. Different approaches to curriculum
structure: FCC
! ne week at the beginning of the term for industry study
O
• Students work out of a booklet based on CSU online (hsc.csu.edu.au
• Lots of essay writing in year 11
! -2 weeks learning programs
1
! major project a term
1
• Photoshop and Flash
• Website/Video
• Game Design
• Multi content is integrated
9.
o Yr 12 broken into one theory lesson a week
focus on ind study first then mm content
lots of sample q’s and papers
lots of essay writing
There is no provided Multi trial paper you will need to
create your own.
o 1st assessment industry study of a business
o Remaining assessments build towards major work
o T4 and ¾ of T1 spent on folio
10. Alternative Structure: PMHS
• pbl (integrated theory/practical projects)
• Propose a product and support with business plan. What
are the things that will effect the development of your
business, prototype of the product.
• Students choose which area to focus on with negotiation
from teacher. (Building skills of every student)
11. • Practical lessons based on needs to know (when
student needs to)
• Lots of pre-videoed content. Pre-prepared resources.
• Student summaries (Group summaries using Google
Docs)
• Lots of sample essay writing in year 11. Homework,
sample answers, marked answers.
12. Year 12 PMHS
Mark major projects as an assessment (show progress)
o Marking components of the folio/prac NOT the whole
thing
• Cannot use the BOS criteria for this.
• Theory lessons every week. Lots of reading/video /
answering questions homework.
• T4 spent on folio (folio segment due early)
• Finish project early.
• Revision of exam content prior to Trial exams
• Lots of practice exams
13. Portfolio Requirements
• Now 80 pages (be familiar with BOS rules)
• Specs including fonts sizes and use of computer operations
• Students must customise the process to their own project
o using data from Yr11 will not cut it
• Management of folio is much easier with a desktop
publishing program
• MUST show written, graphical communication
o graphs, charts, drawings, annotations
14. Practical Requirements
• Software to use? (DET have Adobe Suite, YAY!)
o Industry standard software when you can
o Very expensive course to setup and maintain
o Animation, video editing, 3d, image manipulation, audio
editing
students can use software the school does not have
with permission from the teacher
15. • How the project is marked
• What are acceptable projects?
o ace manual
• What you need to consider in choosing projects
• How to increase marks for projects that are low level
• How to get great level projects (website, adding
media)
• Managing 100 different projects/software (good luck!)
16.
17.
18.
19. Practical Requirements Cont...
• Look at range of depth and skill
• Allow students to pick their own projects with neogtiation
• Spend the last term adding stuff to students projects - or
cutting out
o enhance projects that are lacking
20. • No1 rule - project must be completed (and look
finished)
o betterto do a table and one chair thats finished
than a table and six chairs that are not.
• Construction steps showing their skills (proof)
• Keep a log of students work
• Make sure you have seen them compelte the majority
of work
21. Exam Analysis
• Exam structure
• What do students need to know?
• Building exam knowledge
• Lets some make some exam questions!
o essay questions
o multimedia questions
22.
23. Most Important Things
• Team building
• Tutorials
• Teach them
• Allow them to make mistakes/changes
• Take ownership of their work
• Chose a major that interests them - avoid forcing them
• Collaborate with other IndTech teachers
• Know your stuff - high level of technical knowledge
• Be honest with students - if you don't know a program tell
them!
