The website I chose to analyze is the Smithsonian s History Explorer. I have always
been interested in history and the lessons from the past that still affect us in the
present (and will affect us in the future). After clicking through the website, I saw
an array of interesting topics that can certainly help the educator and shape the
classroom. I wanted to see if the website itself was user friendly for I find that it s
easy to lose interest if the site you re on has distracting pop ups or have links that do
not work. The field of education must also keep up with the advancements of
technology, as it can be a great program that can make teaching effective and efficient.

The portrayal of mental illness to the public has a very important part in the
discovery, understanding and treatment of them. Common misconceptions and
assumptions can be damaging to people with such illnesses by the development of
social stigmas and creation of outcasts in situations where support is needed. In
modern times communication to the public about mental illness comes in a variety
of ways, some accurate and some not. Movies are an example of a medium which
has high potential for erroneous depictions of these and are also widely publicised.

The use of symbols is a powerful means used by the artists to connect with the
viewer on a personal or universal level. These symbolic messages give strength and
meaning to artworks and are achieved through the artist s choice of media,
techniques and imagery . Two artists who exemplify this use of symbolism are Marc
Chagall and Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was an artist, moulded by the context of her
personal life, who is commemorated for her use of symbolism in her many auto
biographical artworks. Kahlo, born on July 6th 1907 in CoyocoГЎn, Mexico City,
suffered though many problematic circumstances. At age 6 Kahlo was diagnosed
with polio and, was then bedridden for nine months. The disease damaged her
right foot and leg which resulted in her forming a permanent limp.

horrific accident when she was on a bus and their vehicle collided with a streetcar.
The accident forced a steel rail to impale Kahlo from the front of her hip right

shoulders caused her to be surrounded by a full body cast, which started her love
for art. She began painting images on her cast, one by one, using her spare time to
pursue her new found love. In 1929 Kahlo married the well known artist, Diego

he does not do it, he cannot go home without his lover, and later on in the novel he
dies on a mission, but before the mission he told Yossarian that he would not die
because he has flown so many missions already (Jordan 2). Finally, there is Major
Major, a shy and awkward boy in the military, who also looks like Henry Fonda, he
