What is Global Positioning System (GPS) ?
• The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based
navigation system made up of at least 24 satellites. GPS
works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24
hours a day, with no subscription fees.
Global Positioning System (GPS)
Main Problems of GPS
• GPS Signals can’t crossing over walls or roofs
(They don’t work indoors).
• Refraction of signals, such as inside the ionosphere.
What is Indoor Positioning System (IPS) ?
• An indoor positioning system is a system used to locate
objects or people inside a building using lights, radio
waves, magnetic fields, acoustic signals, or other
sensory information.
Indoor Positioning System (IPS)
How it works ?
•There is several ways to implement INDOOR
POSITIONING SYSTEM such as (Bluetooth ,
Wireless Waves, VLC ,Infrared...)
What is Beacon ?
•It’s a small device that send signals in specific
interval. Then devices (phones) receive this
signal and by bandwidth of signal they can
calculate the distance from same Beacon.
Beacon
Uses of Indoor Position System
• Hospitals & medical sector
• Trade fairs & congresses
• Office
• Industry
• Parking
• Retail & malls
• Transportation
