This document discusses using smartphones to provide point-of-care access to treatment protocols and educational resources for healthcare workers in remote locations. It describes how an intern suggested using smartphones to access a 45 minute webcast from 100km away, motivating the development of a small app containing WHO guidelines and standard treatment protocols. The app was developed for Android and iOS, has been downloaded over 10,000 times in 10 countries, and receives positive user feedback and ratings. It also includes links to educational videos and test questions to help healthcare workers stay up to date.
