Key aspects of their relationship include extensive military and defense cooperation, with Israel becoming one of India's major arms suppliers. They also have strong counterterrorism collaboration and intelligence sharing. Other areas of cooperation cover agriculture, oil/gas, water management, and cybersecurity. A recent high-level visit by the Israeli Prime Minister in 2018 aimed to further boost economic ties between the two countries.

Implications of Israel and Hamas War on Indiaijtsrd
After the independence of both the countries, Albert Einstein wrote a letter to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in which he said, Jews have been oppressed for many centuries and they are suffering the consequences. Millions of Jews have been exterminated. There is no place in the world where they can feel safe. As a leader of the social and national liberation movement, I appeal to you that the Jewish movement is of a similar nature and you must stand by it. Nehru wrote in reply to Einstein, I have great sympathy with the Jews. I have the same sympathy with the Arabs. I know that the Jews have done a wonderful work in Palestine. The Jews have also contributed a lot to raise the standard of living of the people living in that country, but one question always bothers me and that is why the Arab nations do not trust the Jews after all this 1 Finally on September 17, 1950 Nehru recognized Israel. Nehru had said that Israel is an undeniable truth. It is important what role Prime Minister Narend Modi will take in the ongoing Israel Hamas war. In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

7. Reasons to forgo Israel for almost 50
years after independence
INDIA’S FEAR OF ALIENATING ITS LARGE MUSLIM POPULATION, AND NEW DELHI’S
STRONG TIES TO THE ARAB WORLD. THESE FACTORS PROMPTED INDIA TO FORGO
ESTABLISHING FULL DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH ISRAEL. CONTACT BETWEEN INDIA AND
THE JEWISH STATE REMAINED LIMITED TO SOME COVERT MILITARY AND
INTELLIGENCE COOPERATION.
FINALLY, WITH THE LAUNCHING OF THE MADRID PEACE PROCESS IN 1991, THE

9. Mediator U.S. 1992
United States played a role in helping facilitate India’s full diplomatic recognition
of Israel in 1992, a step New Delhi took in part to strengthen bilateral ties with
Washington.
The United States continues to regard strengthening Indo-Israeli relations
positively, as evidenced by Washington’s approval of Israel’s sale of the Phalcon
warning system to India,
though it has blocked a similar sale to China.
Sale of the Phalcon system, like the Arrow system, requires American approval
because of its use of U.S. technology.

January 4th 2018 after a gap of 15 years
A 130-member delegation is accompanying the Israeli prime minister,
constituting businessmen from 102 Israeli companies. The primary focus
of this delegation would be to boost economic ties between the two
countries
l MoUs are expected to be signed in the fields of oil, gas, renewable
energy and cyber security, among others.

make both India and Israel a lucrative destination for tourists from both

Cabinet approved the MoU between India and Israel
on the “India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological
Innovation Fund” which was concluded in July 2017
13. Defence Deals
Israel may replace Russia as India’s largest arms supplier. Last year,
India signed the biggest weapons deal in Israeli defence history, which
is nearly $2 billion. This mega deal will provide India with an advanced
defence system of medium-range surface-to-air missiles, launchers
and communications technology.
Israel ’s advanced security technology could also strengthen India’s abilities in this area, particularly
vis-à-vis counterterrorism, an area of great concern to the U.S. However, Israeli industry competes
with U.S. companies in such areas.
14. DEFENCE INHOUSE and upgradations
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Tata Group signed an agreement to cooperate on the
development, manufacturing and sale of defense products in India.
India has also taken advantage of Israel’s global reputation for upgrading outdated weapon systems
and Soviet-era military hardware. Israeli missiles, rockets, radar and communication equipment's,
ships, assault and sniper rifles, night-vision devices, and border monitoring equipment have all been
added to the Indian arsenal. I
t has been reported that between 2002 and 2007, India purchased over $5 billion worth of military
weapons and systems from Israel (with $1.6 billion in 2006 alone), making Israel India’s largest
worldwide supplier of defense equipment.
15. Terror and Intelligence
Counterterrorism cooperation has involved the exchange of information on terrorist groups, their
finances, recruitment patterns, training, and operations; it has also entailed comparing national
doctrines and operational experience.
Israel has sold India movement sensors and other monitoring equipment to track
infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC)between India and Pakistan in the
Jammu and Kashmir region. Israel also sold unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to
India for high-altitude surveillance and has offered to provide anti-insurgency
training for Indian forces in the area as well. In 2000, India and Israel established a
joint commission to combat terrorism at the ministerial level.
16. OIL AND GAS
Oil and natural gas cooperation
With the recent discovery of the Tamar and Levianthan gas fields off the
coast of Israel,
India has been one of the first countries to bid for an exploration license in
order to extract and import natural gas from the Jewish State.I
ndia's ONGC Videsh, Bharat PetroResources,
Indian Oil and Oil India were awarded an exploration license by the Israeli
government, a clear sign of the ongoing diversification in ties between the
two countries.
17. Agriculture
partnership evolved into the Indo-Israel Agricultural Project (IIAP)
MOU signed by Indian and Israeli ministers of Agriculture in 2006
IIAP Program as implemented during the last decade a three year work program in
Agriculture” 2018-2020 was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare of
the Republic of India and MASHAV
Aim of partnership IIAP
crop diversity,
increasing productivity &
increasing water use efficiency.
IIAP has been initiated in 2009 after signing a bilateral agreement between Indian and Israeli
ministers of Agriculture (2006). IIAP is implemented via establishment of Centers of Excellence
(CoE), HISAR, in which Israeli Technologies and know-how are disseminated tailored to local
Indian conditions.
18. INDIAN OLIVES in RAJASTHAN
Also in 2008, Israel and India finalised an agricultural plan introducing
crops native to the Middle East and Mediterranean to India, with a
particular focus on olives.
Subsequently, around 112,000 olive trees were planted in the desert
of Rajasthan.
In 2014, more than 100 tonnes of olives were produced in Rajasthan.
