Reusing existing infrastructure can significantly reduce the costs and time required to deploy full fibre networks compared to traditional build models. Civil construction accounts for 50-70% of total build costs but these costs can be avoided by leveraging unused ducts, cables, and other assets owned by local authorities, utilities and other infrastructure owners. ITS, as a UK market leader in infrastructure reuse, has demonstrated build distances over 250m per day using existing ducts, compared to around 20m per day for traditional builds. Sharing infrastructure through co-operative models or concessions can further reduce costs while increasing network coverage and delivering economic and social benefits to local communities.
