The document discusses conventions used in magazine design across various elements like the front page, masthead, coverline, prices/interactive codes, sell lines, contents page, and double page spreads (DPS). It notes that the front page usually uses a midshot of the artist looking at the reader with a faint smile to create interaction. The masthead font is simple and clear like most magazines. Coverlines draw attention with exclusive stories. Interactive codes and barcodes follow typical locations. Sell lines preview contents. The contents page images related magazine content. DPS interviews use a question and answer format common to the genre.
3. Front Page
The front page image is seen as
very important, as it is the first thing
a reader lays eyes on so I followed
the convention of a normal hip hop
magazine and which will always use
a variety of different shots for each
magazine but mostly consist of
midshots with the artist looking
directly at the reader connoting the
sense of interaction with the reader.
Also the facial expression is a faint
smile but with a caring like face
which appeals to readers of all ages
and fits with genre as most of the
pictures included in magazines
show the artist smiling or looking
straight at the reader with a caring
or neutral face.
4. Masthead
The font I used called Hobo
Std is simple and clear
which is the same
convention most
magazines of my genre
follow. It’s a burgundy
colour allowing it to stand
out.
5. Coverline
My cover line like
others is used the
draw the attention
of my readers as I
have used an
‘exclusive’ story
which follows a
normal magazine
convention as most
readers would go
for the exclusive
stories.
6. Prices, Interactive
In recent times a lot
of magazines
include codes
people can scan to
get things on their
phone usually
located bottom left
or right of magazine
but not all
magazines follow
this convention and
the usual
convention of
having the bar code
on the bottom right
of the magazine.
7. Sell lines
I followed the usual convention
for my sell lines as they are to
the side of the magazine (on
occasion can be found in
different positions) and they
include brief insights to what is
to come in the magazine which
is good for drawing in
audience as they get an idea
of what to expect before
opening the magazine

9. Contents
My contents page follows
the convention of my
chosen genre magazine
contents as it features an
image of a star that will later
on appear in the magazine
along with the magazine
content and any additional
information in this case
subscription offers.

11. DPS
For my double page spread
I followed the magazine
convention of my chosen
genre by using questions
and answers for my article
(interview) which is the
main reason most
audiences would pick up
the magazines as its
headlined on the front
page.
