Improper disposal of refuse in the author's neighborhood has caused environmental and social problems. Refuse is increasingly being dumped on streets, forming hills of waste that block drainage and spread odors. This attracts reptiles and mosquitoes and has caused disputes between neighbors. While residents are not entirely to blame since the government has not provided refuse disposal services, the problems will only be solved if the government helps by providing proper disposal options for the neighborhood's refuse.

Recovery and resilience after floods in Pakistan - November 2014Magnus Wolfe Murray
Really heavy rains for no more than 7 days in central Pakistan in September 2012 nearly 500,000 homes were completely destroyed, leaving almost 3.5m homeless and destitute. Most of these people had barely recovered from floods in August 2010. I am proud to say that DFID (UK tax payers money) has been the largest donor year on year in shelter, agriculture recovery and water-sanitation across this area, reaching almost a million people. I have started to include photos of these amazing people, because they are just that, and so inspiring and positive, always.
Waste Management in Blantyre City-Polytechnic StudentsBlessings Chiepa
this presentation is about how waste management is done in Blantyre and it has developed a plan which is for efficient waste management in the same city. the presentation was made by University of Malawi students-the polytechnic, prepared by Blessings Chiepa
1. OBJECTIVE
To create a prototype of ‘AUTOMATIC TRASH COMPACTOR’
2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Any where a lot of trash is generated, the automatic trash compactor offers a compelling solutions that is more environmentally preferable and operationally efficient!
This uses the sun energy to automatically compact trash at the point of disposal, dramatically increasing capacity 5 times within the same footprint as ordinary receptacles.
Increased capacity reduces collection trips and can cut related fuel use and emissions by 80%. Enclosed design keeps pests out and litter in.
Can be installed successfully in urban street, parks, colleges, sports venues and in all weather conditions.
Offers Dramatically Lower Lifetime Operational Costs
Depending on collection frequency, your standard ornamental bin is costing you between $7,300 and $30,000 over it’s lifetime! compactor lifetime operational costs are significantly lower, between $6,000 and $12,000. it uses solar power to compact trash at the point of disposal, increasing capacity by five times and reducing operational costs by up to 80%. In addition to lower costs associated with trucks, fuel and labor, it reduces green house gas and other harmful emissions.
3. LITERATURE
Humans have always had an impact on their surroundings. Garbage is one of our biggest effects on nature. Unlike other animals, humans create too much waste for nature to keep up. Total amount of solid waste in India is 65-70 million tons per year. Almost 42 percent of that garbage is in paper wastes. With the continually rising of the earth’s population, the situation is going to get harder and harder to slow it down, or fix it. With garbage comes pollution; from the burning of garbage we are destroying the atmosphere just as fast as we are just leaving the garbage on the ground. When you burn garbage it gives off extremely poisonous gases into the atmosphere. If a person breathes this air it can hurt their lungs and if untreated can result in cancers or even death. Even if we burry our garbage not all of it will decompose, as there are some material needs centuries to decompose. By polluting the ground it can seep into our farming soil and even into our ground water, which can cause dramatic consequences.
Compacting trashes is considered a great solution for the problem of throwing garbage as it was examined in well developed countries and solved the problem of thrown garbage in the streets or burning extra garbage which is the same problem that India is facing, and in result it also reduce the pollution amount due to the smoke of burning garbage and the diseases caused because of the uncovered garbage in streets where people walk through and others live nearby

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. Improper disposal of refuse in my neighbourhood
1. IMPROPER DISPOSAL OR DUMPING OF REFUSE IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD
Refuse are unwanted waste materials (Wikipedia) especially materials that is regularly thrown away from a
house or factory (Wikipedia). Improper disposal of refuse at the other hand is the dumping of refuse in an
inappropriate way or in a place where it is not supposed to be dumped. This can course Surface water
contamination, Soil contamination, Pollution, Leachate, unhealthy to humans (www.eschooltoday.com)
Where I live is one of the greatest neighbourhoods in North bank Area of Makurdi. Our Neighbours are very
friendly and helpful. However it does have its draw backs Our neighbourhood is becoming something else,
every day the rate of dumping refuse on our street keep increasing, refuse is been hipped like hills in our
vicinity. This problem has brought a lot of negative effects or environmental hazards on the neighbourhood.
The streets are been washed away by rain because of accumulation of wastes, there is no free flow of water,
drainage channels are blocked with refuse, as well as toxic and offensive odour. Those places have become
areas where reptiles and mosquitoes hide and reproduce. This act has now course a lot of disagreement and
hatred among neighbours in our vicinity.
We are not to be blamed because the government did not make provision for where refuse are to be dumped.
We delegated some persons who took our complaints to BENSESA for necessary actions but till today our
efforts are to no avail.
Refuse, if not properly disposed can course a lot of problems to people within the vicinity both socially and
health wise. In our neighbourhood in North Bank, Makurdi it has created a lot of problems. This problems can
be solved or reduce if government can come to our aid by providing a proper way of disposing our refuse.
