Physical And Sexual Abuse Of Roland
Roland was forced to grow up away from his home; he also was exposed to many terrible attributes of
life including physical, mental and sexual abuse during his time at Pennhurst from 1958 1971. The
first account Roland shared is an experience he would never forget; being sexually abused while on
the high functioning ward and another account of female patient who was not as high functioning.
Later, during his stay at Pennhurst, Roland experienced physical abuse by patients as well as by the
staff. For Example, there were several events where Roland saw other patients getting hit over the
head with a broom or mop. While at Pennhurst, facility members punished Roland several times for
various actions. His punishments often involved him being

Bottlenose Dolphins
Bottlenose dolphins produce a extensive variety sounds that are divided into two categories: pulsed
emissions, i.e. echolocation clicks and burst pulsed sounds; and non pulsed signals, i.e. whistles
(Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik, 2013) (Figure 1:2).
Clicks are high frequency and directional sounds that are used to detect, discriminate and recognize
objects in the environment, including potential preys (Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik, 2013). These clicks
are used to locate/discriminate an object based on the returning echo, and the system is known as
echolocation or biosonar (Griffin, 1958). Bottlenose dolphins produce high frequency broadband
clicks with dominant frequencies generally higher than 50 60kHz (Au, 1993).

(1990), signature whistles are stereotyped and individually distinctive whistles, recognizable by the
frequency modulation pattern of the contour (Janik et al. 2006), and may be the most commonly
whistle type produced by an animal in isolation (Caldwell et al., 1990).
David and Melba Caldwell were the first investigators postulating that signature whistles may
represent a unique vocalization, different for each dolphin. These stereotyped whistles seem to be
stable for a long time (Sayigh et al. 1990, 2007; Bruck, 2013; Luís et al., 2015), suggesting that these
signals may be involved in individual identification (Caldwell Caldwell, 1965; Tyack 1986; Caldwell
et al., 1990; Sayigh et al., 1990; dos Santos et al., 2005).
In isolation, signature whistles may represent 80% to 100% of whistles emissions (Caldwell Caldwell,
1965; Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik Slater, 1998; Sayigh et al. 2007; Janik et al., 2013).
Signature whistles are probably developed through vocal learning during the first year of a dolphin s
life, and may remain stable throughout an individual s lifetime (Caldwell Caldwell, 1979; Caldwell et
al. 1990; Sayigh et al. 1990; Janik Sayigh,

Analysis Of The Movie Fruitvale Station
New Year s Day, 2009, a man is brutally shot by the BART Police of Oakland, California. Fruitvale
Station, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, took audiences by surprise as it resonated with twenty
two year old Oscar Grant, a man who was shot down by the BART Police. This movie takes viewers
on an emotional expedition as it takes a peek into the life and death of Oscar Grant and his family. The
struggles of originating from an African American background become apparent as Oscar Grant
struggles with steering away from racial stereotypes and the misunderstandings of racial profiling. As
the movie begins, the audience notices that Oscar Grant is portrayed as a man who is loving and
caring toward his family, but also has a history of convictions and drug dealing experiences. As the
movie continues, Grant is shown as being a doer. Acting on situations without much thought and logic,
his life has been full of risks. By depicting Grant as having two completely different sides to him, the
director does a great job in displaying his struggles with himself as he tries to become a better man for
the sake of his family. The audience is allowed to see the humanization of Grant as the film proceeds.
His character is portrayed as flawed and misunderstood which relates to the viewers on a more
personal level. The audience notices the shrinking gap between themselves and Grant as the film
continues and takes them deeper into Grant s life. The film as a whole is filmed with cinema vérité

Sara Teasdale s Life and Accomplishments
The work of Sara Teasdale captured the hearts of many Americans through her lyrical simplicity and
delicate craftsmanship on the major themes of love, beauty, and death. Her poetry was often quoted,
parodied, and set to music by the public. They awarded her the Columbia University Society Prize and
the Poetry Society of America Prize in 1918 for her poem collection title Love Songs. However, her
major success as a lyrical poet proved true when her work continued to sell posthumously. Throughout
Teasdale s lyrical poetry, she depends heavily on metaphors and personification, simple diction, and
romantic imagery to produce a melancholy tone and to gain a sympathetic response from her reader on

His death further affected her and two years later, she committed suicide herself with an overdose of
sleeping pills.
Teasdale s success as a lyrical poet depended on her talent to convert her struggle of unifying
incompatible desires into work that her audience could relate to. Her use of metaphors, similes, and
personification enabled her to generalize her feelings so that her words would not be too specific to
her situation. Braithwaite claims, Her poems are brief, alluring and simple in expression . . . Love is
her great theme. In her poem, Like Barley Bending, Teasdale compares her heartache to the annual
crop: Like barley bending And rising again, So would I, unbroken, Rise from pain; (5 8).
The audience is able to compare Teasdale frailty to the barley and relate to her weakness. They are
also able to relate to Teasdale s perseverance to rise from pain. Bogan describes Teasdale s use of
figurative language, Its effects are based upon a true subtle and naïve ear, and upon intensity rather
than complexity of emotion. She succeeds in simplifying the complexity of her emotions but still
keeping the intensity of her longing, which the audience can relate to. Teasdale s four stanza poem,
New Love and Old characterizes love as a ghost walking through the night. She personifies the things
her lover used to tell, saying they Ranged themselves reproachfully / Round

I didn t know at first that there were two languages in Canada. I just thought that there was one way to

Canadian prime minister of Canada, Louis St. Laurent had a very influential role to Canada. St
Laurent became prime minister in 1948, after a selection authorized by a Liberal Convention. He was
a well respected prime minister and was given the name Uncle Louis for reshaping and improving
Canada as an international well known country. Actions and policies, including the Trans Canada

The Trans Canada highway was an important achievement for Canada and Louis St. Laurent s prime
minister career that was hugely beneficial for Canada due to its impact on the economy and the
convenience that was contributed by this amazing construction.
In order to build the Trans Canada highway, Newfoundland s decision to join Canada as one of the
marine provinces can be viewed as extremely meaningful. Newfoundland became part of Canada on
April 1st, 1949, and the following will be Louis St. Laurent s speech addressing on the entry of
Newfoundland into Confederation, representing Canada and on the behalf of the other nine provinces:
Newfoundland is in the very centre of the North Atlantic Community. Canada as a whole occupies a
large part of the North Atlantic area. The nations of that whole area will be more secure in the new
North Atlantic association. In the same way, Canada and Newfoundland will have greater security in
being bound together in federal union. From today all Canadians, old and new, will work as one to
preserve peace and to win security. And in a world where free people can work in security and peace,
the opportunities for the enlarged Canada, with its ten provinces, are immense. But while there is yet
room for improvement, there is no country in the world where that improvement is more possible, or
indeed, more certain. The wealth of Canada is

Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans
Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and
defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living
peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before
invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders
came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to
brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t
comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of
their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans
became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a
different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s,
Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward
the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was
captured was Mr. John Smith.
While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a
surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John Smith s
men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass. After

Analysis Of John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California. After he graduated high school, he attended
Stanford University, but never graduated. In 1925 Steinbeck went to New York to establish himself as
a free lance writer for a little while, but it didn t work out so he went back to California. He published
a few short stories and novels for a while. Then in 1935 he was discovered with Tortilla Flat, a series
of humorous stories. Steinbeck s novels are based on economic problems of labor. After the humorous
Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck decided to write a more serious novel, In Dubious Battle, in 1936. It deals with
the strikes of the migratory fruit pickers on California plantations. Then in 1937 Of Mice and Men
was published. Later, The Long Valley, was published in 1938. In 1939 The Grapes of Wrath was
published, the story of Oklahoma tenant farmers who couldn t earn enough money for a living, so they
moved to California and became migratory workers. After a while he wrote East of Eden in 1952, The
Winter of Our Discontent in 1961, and Travels with Charley in 1962. Steinbeck wrote those three
stories while traveling in a three month tour through 40 American states. During this tour, he died in

Balance bikes are a great and innovative way to get children into cycling. They remove the
complicated issues of balancing whilst pedalling, and dispense with the sometimes problematic issue
of stabilisers. They teach kids to balance properly, but allow them to put their feet down whenever
they like. The Specialized Hot Walk is a balance bike from Specialized. As a bike from Specialized, it
well engineered and made of lightweight aluminium, so is easy to life in and out of the boot! Next up
is the Hotrock 16 Coaster, it does have tool free removable stabilisers as an included option, and still
has the lightweight alloy frame, but is still simple for teaching kids to ride on. The Hotrock 20 adds a
bigger frame and 24 inch wheels, it has six gears to introduce the concept of choosing speeds and
simple brakes. It also looks like a real adult bike to give them the confidence needed to progress. For a
little bit more there s a version of the Hotrock 20 with suspension too, so those first trails can be
experienced at a younger age. The Hotrock 24 ups the ante, with a bigger and more technical frame,
more gears and lighter materials. The Hotrock 24 also comes in suspension versions with up to 50mm

The history of nursing has been well documented throughout the years. Their is one nurse, in
particular, who is recognized as the source of many changes in health care we still see today. She is
Florence Nightingale. By the age of 16, against her family s wishes, Florence Nightingale decided to
forgo the traditional route of marriage and set her sights on nursing. Many refer to this period in time
as the dark age of nursing. Nurses were typically poor, unskilled and generally seen as unsavory
characters. Hospitals were known more as the place you go to die rather than for providing life saving
care. This did not deter Florence, she received her first formal training as a nurse at Theodore Fliedner

The war camp hospitals had high mortality rates due to lack of staffing and unsanitary conditions.
Seeing a need, Florence organized a group of women to help. Their arrival was not welcomed, but
their value became obvious when within a six month span the death rate of soldiers had reduced from
40% to a mere 2%. The nurses provided clean, efficient care as well as nutritious food. It was during
this time Florence received her famous nickname, lady with the lamp . She would make rounds at
night, oil lamp in tow, assessing patients and providing companionship. Many found the light from her
lamp as a source of comfort, knowing they were diligently watched over. Upon her return from the
war, she was awarded 250,000 dollars from the British government. She used this money to open St.
Thomas Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses. She is also known for creating the
environmental theory and her book

the environment to assist in recovery. This included things like fresh air, safe water, sunlight and
cleanliness of both the patient and their surroundings. Florence Nightingale died at the age of 90.

DISASTERS CREATES OPPURTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT
DISASTER:
Disaster can be defined as The occurrence of a sudden or major misfortune which disrupts the basic

Why and how disasters vary and have different impacts in different areas and situations? The answer
lies in the degree of development of that particular area and situation. In developing countries
development only works best when there is a strong need of development and there are volunteer
leaders to work for their betterment. For example when an area is hit by a disaster and suffered great
economic and social loss then the local people residents and governmental and nongovernmental
organizations will start focusing their attention towards such area and situation and will start more and
more developmental activities for the betterment and improvement of such area. The magnitude of the
disaster cannot be helped but the after effects can be. The disaster disrupts the living and almost
everything but it also gives them a chance to reconstruct better and in ways that they always wanted or
desired. The current disaster just showed them where and what went wrong. The new ways and plans
are to be more resistant than the last one. The developmental activities include activities such as
awareness raising among the people by educating the people in order to have knowledge for future
disasters. Preparedness, prevention and mitigation measures should be and are introduced in context of
reconstruction, relocation, new investment in order to increase the coping capacity of a country

The Shakespeare Conspiracy Theory
William Shakespeare, by far one of the greatest playwrights of all time, is clouded with controversy.
Rumors run rampant that he was nothing more than a non de plume for someone who wished to keep
the anonymity of his identity. There have been names such as Edward De Vere the 17th Earl of
Oxford, Sir Francis Bacon, even Queen Elizabeth herself was among those thought to be the true
writer of the plays and poems.
To start from the beginning of the controversy, the earliest actual documentation of such findings
began in 1785 by an oxford scholar named James Wilmot. It was here that when James came up empty
handed of any evidence of Shakespeare s plays did he come to the conclusion that it had to have been
someone else and that someone was Sir Francis Bacon. James however never reported anything and
on his deathbed actually destroyed his writings, but not before telling a fellow scholar, James Corton
Cowell, his findings. Cowell would leave and make a presentation to the Ipswich Philosophic Society,
and so began the greatest mystery of whether William Shakespeare was a famous playwright or a
fraud taking credit for the work of someone else.
The search for evidence to either prove or disprove this conspiracy has been one of the hardest
searches I have ever had to do. I searched countless sites and countless books to find at least one
negative or positive piece of evidence other than just speculation and one side arguing against another
on the true author.
In this paper I will

Middle Tennessee Disaster Analysis
There are many disasters that occur everyday, but not always in the area in which one lives. The
largest disaster in the area of middle Tennessee was the Cumberland river flooding in 2010. This
disaster was the largest in the history of middle Tennessee, and doubled the previous record rainfall
(Grigsby, 2015). This disaster ruined many historical locations, and displaced many people and
businesses (Grisby, 2015). There were 11,000 buildings, and 10,000 people displaced (Grisby, 2015).
The flooding of the Cumberland river killed 29 people, with the last victim being found months later

There were disaster mitigation efforts made before and after the disaster. Disaster mitigation is the first

as this is where real change can be physically made in order to possibly change the path of any future

Prior to the disaster of 2010, there was some work done to prevent flooding. One can see a wall

Intellectual Heritage and Its Impact on Entrepreneurship
Intellectual Heritage and its Impact on Entrepreneurship: Academia and the Indian Focus on Intellect
and Community In beginning to understand the concept of intellectual heritage in the context of

line of academic scholars, a palpable focus on leadership, community and the quest for excellence
have been consistently pushed in my family, and this focus has led to a continuous breeding of like
minded, well educated, community savvy entrepreneurs. In my family, academia and a connection to
knowledge have run through the generations much like brown hair or blue eyes may run through the
family of another, and because of the abundance of similarly driven individuals, sharing considerable
goals and the means to attain them, much of my family has branched out from academia into the world
of entrepreneurship in order to better themselves, their families, and the respective communities
around them. Much of my family comes from India, a nation where dedication, hard work, education,
community, religion and family are valued above all else. Hearing the call to achieve these standards,
many in my family were called early on into the field of academia and have remained vital fixtures in
this field for many years. However, with academia comes a quest for ever increasing knowledge, and
perhaps the most valuable way to attain this knowledge is to move from the page to the real world in

Female Portrayal Of The Media
Women should be submissive and be ruled by Men, according to some people. It is a known fact that
women have been oppressed greatly by the generally patriarchal structure of the society. However, it is
also evident that women have fought for equality. However, the female portrayal in the media has
halted this advancement and even reversed it in some ways. Additionally, the media has deteriorating
effects on females. The media of today makes women seem less desirable while also objectifying,
over sexualizing and stereotyping them on a great level. This, in turn, has a very negative influence on
females of all ages and forces younger girls to conform to the media s marketed female ideal.
Ultimately, the female portrayal in the media has too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the product does not make the women like the perfect model advertised, they feel contemptible.
This directs to disorders such as bulimia, anorexia or depression because this perfection is never
achievable or very difficult to achieve. Social media is also a factor in this because women are stalked
by advertisements even on their social outlets. Recent studies have shown that there has been an
increase in depression among girls that is linked with both obesity and can be caused by social media
(Tran, 2015). An example of this would be Instagram, even though it is a personal social outlet,
Instagram can clearly be seen as a big advertiser. Companies use perfected people and their photos to
sell products, Makeup accounts and clothing accounts are most apparent cases. All in all, the
unrealistic expectations the media forces upon women of today s age cause them to have low self
esteem and many times leads to disorders.
Secondly, the media has proven to be an incredible force which even seems to rip away the childhood
of young girls as it forces female ideals on them. It is not uncommon to see kid versions of female
things; these may include perfumes or padded bras for younger girls. These products not only force
young girls to grow up way too fast but also encourage them to fit into the box of the society as
advertised by the media. Advertisements most of the time show greatly perfected younger girls

Reconstruction Of African American During Reconstruction
History helps shape the future and what we can learn from it to make sure that we do not repeat the
same mistakes. During Reconstruction, the country was trying to make amends after the war was over.
The country needed to find a way to mend a broken nation because it was divided. The main issue
during reconstruction was the status of African Americans because they wanted their civil rights, but
could not get that. The question that needs to be answered is: who did the most to aid the cause of
African American during Reconstruction, and why? Many organizations and people helped African
Americans, but the Freedman s Bureau did the most. They helped provide education for the freed
African Americans. According to the Virginia Historical Society, they say, they used their authority
over former confederate properties to provide buildings for schools. The Freedman s Bureau wanted to
make sure that African Americans had a proper education because they were deprived of education
while they were growing up. The Virginia Historical Society says, the Freedman s Bureau, missionary
associations, and African Americans themselves funded the schools; many of the mostly white, female
teachers came from the south with the missionary associations. The Bureau wanted this to be
successful and with the help of the missionary associations and the African Americas to fund the
schools, it would make it a reality. The Freedman s Bureau did everything that they could to make sure

neighbor as ourselves. In the Bible, we are born guilty, and if we do not forgive then we do not have
god s forgiveness. We can hate the wrong thing that someone did, but can t hate the person, and if we
can, to be hope they can one day try to correct it and turn over a new leaf. Christians believe in eternal
life, and the soul of human will eventually come together for a moment, and no one will hate each
other at that time. He has shown his love to those who believe in him, and god wants us to love all the
people as ourselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one likes sin. In Christian opinion, the evil they consider is pride or self conceit. Most people,
except Christians, like to see the evil in others, not themselves. In contrast, in the Christian virtues, it
is called humility. The devil is because of pride then become a devil, pride is what, the essence of
pride is to contend with human and is not satisfied. A self conceit man cannot know god because he is
pride, so he looks down on people and looks down on everything. Let s put down yourself and to love
something rather than yourself. Believe in god and he is willing to give it to

Simulation And Weather Data Files Essay
.2 Simulation and weather data files 2.2.1 Simulation
Simulation is a powerful tool in the search for design solutions that ensure occupant well being,
reduce energy consumption, meet sustainability aspirations, mitigate environment impact and
contribute to climate change abatement (Clarke 2001). Simulation is all about making copies of reality
for both objects and settings (Groat David, 2013). The history of building energy analysis goes back to
the late 1960s. The development is shown in Figure 2.11 and Figure 2.12. At first, the purpose of those
programs was to calculate the air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, sizing, heating and ventilating,
then it was used for thermal environment evaluation in fallout shelters (Judkoff et al., 2008). The aim
of the building energy simulation or building performance simulation (BPS), is to simulate a building
with certain climatic data conditions, affect the thermal response of the building, embodies the
interaction of the dynamic response, and to predict the energy flows (Attia, 2012).

Black Thursday Stock Market Crash
In early 1928 the Dow Jones Average went from a low of 191 to a high of 300 in December of 1928

Meanwhile, the overall price level dropped by about 1/3. Many people blamed the crash for the
economical collapse. Some people held responsible were President Hoover, brokers, bankers, and
businessmen. The cause of the depression cannot be linked to one individual or even a group of
people. It is also unlikely that the crash of the market would have been large enough to lead the US
economy into the depression and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity. (1929 ) Why
People Invested in the Stock Market During 1929, people invested in the stock market for 5 major
reasons. The first was that the market was considered an easy way to get rich, quick. Although, about
4 million Americans, a small amount, invested in the stock market at one time. The constant influx of
new investors coming in and old investors moving out ensured that new money was always flowing
around. (1929 ) Another reason was higher wages. This meant that everyone in America had extra
money to put into savings or invest in the market. The 3rd reason was that at this time, money was
made more readily available, from banks, at a lower interest rate to more people. Some economist
debated that this influenced the stock market, it is conceivable that people took loans to buy more
stock. (1929 ) The fourth reason is that industry was over producing, in anticipation of selling

The Characteristics And Differences Between Radio And Radio
1. The skills one needs to be a radio listener, are more sophisticated then the skills one would use to
understand and interpret a television program. When listening to the radio, one has to be an active
listener. It requires you to pay more attention as the information is being processed solely through
auditory stimulation. This is unlike watching television which provides both auditory and visual
stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th 1938, I
found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or news story.
It is much easier to pay attention to the later. Moreover, listening to the radio requires a person to use
their own imagination more vividly. The audience has to take in what is being described and create
their own personal picture of the event. Television seems to give us a more realistic understanding of
what it is news anchor is talking about as the consumers can be shown pictures or film footage of the
event being discussed. This add to the audience s view of the incident in its entirety. On the radio, the
news broadcasters have to be more descriptive when describing the currents events as their
descriptions are the sole foundation that the listener s imagination will be based on. It is only through
their description that the listener will get an understanding of whatever is being discussed. The radio
host must therefore put in more detail than a television host. As expected, a

Veronica Roth Research Paper
Veronica Roth At the age of twenty two, Veronica Roth had carved her path to becoming a successful
Young Adult author. Born on August 19, 1988, in New York City, NY, Roth began writing ever since
she was 11. Although she loved to write, Roth only considered it as a hobby. She grew up in
Barrington and graduated from Barrington High School. After finishing high school, Roth decided to
study at Minnesota Carleton College for one year. When she grew interested in a writing career, Roth
transferred to Northwestern University s creative writing program for the rest of her college education.
During her senior year, she drafted the first copy of Divergent. She quickly rose to fame when
Divergent was published. After releasing the whole series, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Conclusion
In conclusion, Veronica Roth is a very talented author. Even though many people think that the
Divergent series is a rip off of Suzanne Collins Hunger Game series, I believe that Roth is an original
author who comes up with her own ideas. She is still young compared to other authors. She s just

Early Mine Workers
The conditions for early mine workers were crowded, unsafe, hot, and overall poor according to
modern day standards. The conditions varied depending on the type of work and location the worker
was placed. In mines it was common for the pits to be relatively cold and it was not uncommon for
there to be explosions or cave ins. The mines were also dark, cramped, and had poor air quality that
often gave workers lung health problems. The other common workplace for 19th century workers was
in factories. These factories were typically intensely hot and required long hours. The workers often
sustained injuries from the machinery within the factories. According to the BBC documentary on

The first comment that raised an interesting point was made by a mine worker that was recounted in
the Ashley Commission Testimonies. The worker said There is one fills, and we two have to hurry
during the day; we ve no time to stop. I d rather be in the pit than at school; I like being in the pit
(Ashley Commission Testimonies). The child expresses that he enjoys the pit. This thought displays
the drive to work in this miner. Despite the poor conditions of the workplace this worker derives
enjoyment from his work. This derivation also exhibits the perception of worker rights, working
conditions and the importance of work in this culture and time. The fact that this worker is able to
derive enjoyment from this position with little to no rights and poor working conditions shows that
other businesses are also not recognizing these two concepts because he is comfortable at his work
and not seeking other employment. Next, his comment about how he would rather be working than
going to school displays the importance placed on work in this culture. The next comment that has
significance was made by a colliery owner. In his response he explains how the workers at the colliery
enjoy their jobs and that the work may be long, but it is simple. He also expresses that the colliery

The Death of Communism
The Death of Communism
The United States longest and bloodiest war was the Vietnam War, which was fought from 1959 until
1975.(Communist Manifesto 1) In this war 57,685 Americans were killed, and their were over 2
million Vietnamese deaths.(Communist Manifesto 3) One of the main causes of the war was a
commonly held American belief called the Domino Theory. This theory stated that if the U.S. allowed
one country to fall to communism, those around it would fall, and then those around it, eventually
taking over the whole world. However, the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 allows to approach
communism in a new light.

It states that communist do not form a separate working class party, that they do not have interest
separate from the working class as a whole, and they do not seek to mold the proletarian movement.
Marx states that the distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolishment of property
generally, but the abolishment of bourgeois property. (Marx 7) Marx is arguing that the capitalist
societies of the time have done away with property for nine tenths of the population already, and the
only way to remove class distinctions is to abolish private property.
The final section of the Communist Manifesto, Marx attacks various countries attempts at socialism
and proclaims that communist disdain to conceal their aims. (Marx 8) He finishes with a call to arms:
Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but
their chains. They have a world to win. Working men of all countries, unite! (Marx 9)
The Communist Manifesto was written in a time when people were starting to realize all the injustices
the industrial revolution and modern industry had created. However, this situation no longer exists.
Gone, are the bourgeois and proletarians; a middle class has risen up; communism has begun to fall.

The Prisoner s Dilemma is an example of game theory; a game of cooperation in which an individual
ends up considering that the best way to maximize their payoff is through non cooperation. The
Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both parties decide to protect themselves from the
players; As a result of following a purely logical thought process to help oneself, both participants find
themselves in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision making process
(Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma, people can predict and understand some
of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement as well as the consequences of their possible

Analysis Of George Weigel s Book Letters Of A Young...
Through thick and thin, Catholicism has been around for quite a long time. With millions of followers
from around the globe, it has grown to become one of the largest religious faiths. Every single one of
these Christians has their own unique story about how their faith has significantly affected their lives.
In his book, George Weigel shares his experience as a Catholic growing up in late 1950 s and 1960 s
in Baltimore. On page 9 of his book Letters to a Young Catholic , he says The real Catholic difference
... was, at bottom, a way of seeing the world (Weigel 9). This means that what separates a Catholic
from the rest is our experience and knowledge of God, through which we are given the power to
experience the world differently than most others can. I do feel this way as well. Being Catholic, I feel
that I definitely experience the world differently than others. Whenever I see or hear about a tragic
event that has occurred, I can hold solace in the idea that everything is all part of God s master plan
and that it will all work out in the end. If I am every struggling for anything, whether it an exorbitant
amount of homework I have for a weekend or an difficult test or quiz coming up that I haven t had
time to study for, I know that I can trust in God and that everything will be alright in the long run.
Being Catholic has also taught me to be thankful for the smaller things in life, because it is the smaller
things that can add up to make a bad day turn around. Like

Predictably Irrational By Dan Ariely
I have always been fascinated by the inner workings of the mind. Why we act the way we do in certain
situations and why we act irrationally. Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely attempts to explore and
answer these questions. He covers irrationality from a variety of topics such as human relationships
and market dynamics, but the implications are valid in any field that requires decision making. Two
topics that Ariely covers in the book are: the zero price effect and the endowment effect. With each of
these topics, Ariely challenges the reader to rethink their current decision making process and to step
outside the irrational mind of the consumer. Dan Ariely states:
Although a feeling of awe at the capability of humans is clearly justified, ... Show more content on

From the consumer s perspective, though, there is a huge difference between cheap and free. Give a
product away and it can go viral. Charge a single cent for it and you re in an entirely different
business, one of clawing and scratching for every customer. The psychology of free is powerful
indeed, as any marketer will tell you (Anderson, 2008). Ariely is aware of the power of free and offers
suggestions to policy makers. For example, governments attempt to persuade the population to receive
regular health checks; in some cases running large advertising campaigns and reducing the price of the
health check. Ariely suggests that instead of spending money on campaigns around creating
awareness, put the money towards making the health check free (Ariely, 2008). While this may not
apply to a country with free health care, the same general takeaway is still relevant: free is an
emotional button that can change a rational consumer into an irrational

Psychedelia in music has been around for a long time and has changed much of the popular music of
today. The dictionary definition of psychedelic is, of or noting a mental state characterized by a
profound sense of intensified sensory perception, sometimes accompanied by severe perceptual
distortion and hallucinations and by extreme feelings of either euphoria or despair. It started in the
1960 s with the discovery of LSD and use of other psychedelic drugs. Psychedelia did not only affect

the United States started outlawing LSD use, but it was too late. The drug was increasing in
popularity, and peaked in the summer of 1967. Although it was now illegal, LSD was still getting
more and more popular (DeRogatis 6, 9, 10). Many psychedelic bands came from San Francisco s
Haight Ashbury district. The Grateful Dead was one of the most popular psychedelic rock bands ever.
Although they did not sell many records, they were very well known for their live performances, and
their music was often used as a soundtrack for LSD parties. While the Bay area, and especially the
Haight Ashbury, was good for producing great bands, there was a downside as well. Other than the
many people dying LSD related deaths, many of the early bands were exploited by the record
companies. The record companies wanted to profit from the hippy movement, but they did not like
their music. Some producers were paid specifically to change a band s original sound into a more
popular sound, such as that of The Beatles. The Bay area was known for creating great bands, but
more and more psychedelic bands were beginning to form all over the world, including Pink Floyd, a
band from Europe (Scaruffi). Pink Floyd was, and to this

How Does Duchamp Evaluate The Roles Of Artists And...
The text by Marcel Duchamp, The Creative Act, evaluates the roles of artists and spectators. He
mentions that artists are not in full control of how their art is perceived, but by the people who view it
and talk about it. Ultimately, the spectator gives a work of art its meaning, whether or not it aligns
with the artists intentions. First, Duchamp suggests that an artist s intentions cannot transcend past the
artist. This loss of intention is called art coefficient (Duchamp) If we give the attributes of a medium
to the artist, we must then deny him the state of consciousness on the esthetic plane about what he is

Friendships Vs. Same-Sex Relationships
In 1997, Dave Hill wrote The Future of Men, where he forecasts that the future will involve men and
women alike accommodating more flexible models of masculinity which acknowledge many features
in common with femininity ...[which does] not denigrate either those men who do not exhibit the same
masculine traits or those women who do. (Hill, 1997, p. 52) However, when considering same sex
versus cross sex friendships of college students, men and women to this day still perform different
identities, therefore, resulting in having more frequent stronger same sex friendships than cross sex
friendships. Friendship ideals and norms considerably influence preference of friendships and the
probability of having a strong intersectional friendship. Most men and women have different
friendship ideals and norms from one another. It is imperative to provide a definition for friendship.
Hays (as cited in Demir and Orthel, 2011) defines friendship as a voluntary interdependence between
two persons over time, that is intended to facilitate socio emotional goals of the participants, and may
involve varying types and degrees of companionship, intimacy, affection and mutual assistance (p
175). For understanding purposes, future use of the term relationship specifically refers to a
connection or association between two or more people that is independent of romantic relationship.

Prejudice inside of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Aside from being one in every one of the points of interest of yankee writing, Mark Twain s great
story,
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, might be a mirror of the profoundly inserted supremacist
demeanors
of the geographic region inside of the 1880 s.
In the first place, to not specify the premier questioning and self evident, is that the liberal utilization
of the
word nigger all through the book. Taken as a demonizing term by contemporary
Americans, Twain s utilization of nigger is exclusively a reflected picture of the days. Huck

At the point when toweling converses with kinswoman Sally a couple gathered pontoon blast, Twain
drives home a distinct reason concerning the white South s respect of the dark man:

because his views were aligned with that of most whites, and Clyde Kennard, who hoped that school

read about Eisenhower s decision to send federal troops to Little Rock Arkansas to enforce the Brown

The backing of Meredith by the Kennedy Administration adds an interesting dimension to the
narrative of Ole Miss. Involvement of federal politics in black issues has historically been dependent
on whether it is in the interest of the federal government. During Reconstruction, for example,
progressive reforms initiated by the Republican Party were motivated by the necessity of having a
politically loyal contingent of voters in Southern, democrat dominated states.7 With the start of the

  • 2. Physical And Sexual Abuse Of Roland Roland was forced to grow up away from his home; he also was exposed to many terrible attributes of life including physical, mental and sexual abuse during his time at Pennhurst from 1958 1971. The first account Roland shared is an experience he would never forget; being sexually abused while on the high functioning ward and another account of female patient who was not as high functioning. Later, during his stay at Pennhurst, Roland experienced physical abuse by patients as well as by the staff. • 3. Bottlenose Dolphins Bottlenose dolphins produce a extensive variety sounds that are divided into two categories: pulsed emissions, i.e. echolocation clicks and burst pulsed sounds; and non pulsed signals, i.e. whistles (Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik, 2013) (Figure 1:2). Clicks are high frequency and directional sounds that are used to detect, discriminate and recognize objects in the environment, including potential preys (Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik, 2013). These clicks are used to locate/discriminate an object based on the returning echo, and the system is known as echolocation or biosonar (Griffin, 1958). Bottlenose dolphins produce high frequency broadband clicks with dominant frequencies generally higher than 50 60kHz (Au, 1993). Burst pulse sounds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1990), signature whistles are stereotyped and individually distinctive whistles, recognizable by the frequency modulation pattern of the contour (Janik et al. 2006), and may be the most commonly whistle type produced by an animal in isolation (Caldwell et al., 1990). David and Melba Caldwell were the first investigators postulating that signature whistles may represent a unique vocalization, different for each dolphin. These stereotyped whistles seem to be stable for a long time (Sayigh et al. 1990, 2007; Bruck, 2013; Luís et al., 2015), suggesting that these signals may be involved in individual identification (Caldwell Caldwell, 1965; Tyack 1986; Caldwell et al., 1990; Sayigh et al., 1990; dos Santos et al., 2005). In isolation, signature whistles may represent 80% to 100% of whistles emissions (Caldwell Caldwell, 1965; Caldwell et al., 1990; Janik Slater, 1998; Sayigh et al. 2007; Janik et al., 2013). Signature whistles are probably developed through vocal learning during the first year of a dolphin s life, and may remain stable throughout an individual s lifetime (Caldwell Caldwell, 1979; Caldwell et al. 1990; Sayigh et al. 1990; Janik Sayigh, ... • 4. Analysis Of The Movie Fruitvale Station New Year s Day, 2009, a man is brutally shot by the BART Police of Oakland, California. Fruitvale Station, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, took audiences by surprise as it resonated with twenty two year old Oscar Grant, a man who was shot down by the BART Police. This movie takes viewers on an emotional expedition as it takes a peek into the life and death of Oscar Grant and his family. The struggles of originating from an African American background become apparent as Oscar Grant struggles with steering away from racial stereotypes and the misunderstandings of racial profiling. As the movie begins, the audience notices that Oscar Grant is portrayed as a man who is loving and caring toward his family, but also has a history of convictions and drug dealing experiences. As the movie continues, Grant is shown as being a doer. Acting on situations without much thought and logic, his life has been full of risks. By depicting Grant as having two completely different sides to him, the director does a great job in displaying his struggles with himself as he tries to become a better man for the sake of his family. The audience is allowed to see the humanization of Grant as the film proceeds. His character is portrayed as flawed and misunderstood which relates to the viewers on a more personal level. The audience notices the shrinking gap between themselves and Grant as the film continues and takes them deeper into Grant s life. The film as a whole is filmed with cinema vérité ... • 5. Sara Teasdale s Life and Accomplishments The work of Sara Teasdale captured the hearts of many Americans through her lyrical simplicity and delicate craftsmanship on the major themes of love, beauty, and death. Her poetry was often quoted, parodied, and set to music by the public. They awarded her the Columbia University Society Prize and the Poetry Society of America Prize in 1918 for her poem collection title Love Songs. However, her major success as a lyrical poet proved true when her work continued to sell posthumously. Throughout Teasdale s lyrical poetry, she depends heavily on metaphors and personification, simple diction, and romantic imagery to produce a melancholy tone and to gain a sympathetic response from her reader on the impossible feat of satisfying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His death further affected her and two years later, she committed suicide herself with an overdose of sleeping pills. Teasdale s success as a lyrical poet depended on her talent to convert her struggle of unifying incompatible desires into work that her audience could relate to. Her use of metaphors, similes, and personification enabled her to generalize her feelings so that her words would not be too specific to her situation. Braithwaite claims, Her poems are brief, alluring and simple in expression . . . Love is her great theme. In her poem, Like Barley Bending, Teasdale compares her heartache to the annual crop: Like barley bending And rising again, So would I, unbroken, Rise from pain; (5 8). The audience is able to compare Teasdale frailty to the barley and relate to her weakness. They are also able to relate to Teasdale s perseverance to rise from pain. Bogan describes Teasdale s use of figurative language, Its effects are based upon a true subtle and naïve ear, and upon intensity rather than complexity of emotion. She succeeds in simplifying the complexity of her emotions but still keeping the intensity of her longing, which the audience can relate to. Teasdale s four stanza poem, New Love and Old characterizes love as a ghost walking through the night. She personifies the things her lover used to tell, saying they Ranged themselves reproachfully / Round ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Newfoundland became part of Canada on April 1st, 1949, and the following will be Louis St. Laurent s speech addressing on the entry of Newfoundland into Confederation, representing Canada and on the behalf of the other nine provinces: Newfoundland is in the very centre of the North Atlantic Community. • 9. Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was captured was Mr. John Smith. While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a surge of Native Americans. • 14. The Shakespeare Conspiracy Theory William Shakespeare, by far one of the greatest playwrights of all time, is clouded with controversy. Rumors run rampant that he was nothing more than a non de plume for someone who wished to keep the anonymity of his identity. There have been names such as Edward De Vere the 17th Earl of Oxford, Sir Francis Bacon, even Queen Elizabeth herself was among those thought to be the true writer of the plays and poems. To start from the beginning of the controversy, the earliest actual documentation of such findings began in 1785 by an oxford scholar named James Wilmot. It was here that when James came up empty handed of any evidence of Shakespeare s plays did he come to the conclusion that it had to have been someone else and that someone was Sir Francis Bacon. James however never reported anything and on his deathbed actually destroyed his writings, but not before telling a fellow scholar, James Corton Cowell, his findings. Cowell would leave and make a presentation to the Ipswich Philosophic Society, and so began the greatest mystery of whether William Shakespeare was a famous playwright or a fraud taking credit for the work of someone else. The search for evidence to either prove or disprove this conspiracy has been one of the hardest searches I have ever had to do. Simulation And Weather Data Files Essay .2 Simulation and weather data files 2.2.1 Simulation Simulation is a powerful tool in the search for design solutions that ensure occupant well being, reduce energy consumption, meet sustainability aspirations, mitigate environment impact and contribute to climate change abatement (Clarke 2001). Simulation is all about making copies of reality for both objects and settings (Groat David, 2013). The history of building energy analysis goes back to the late 1960s. • 23. The Characteristics And Differences Between Radio And Radio 1. The skills one needs to be a radio listener, are more sophisticated then the skills one would use to understand and interpret a television program. When listening to the radio, one has to be an active listener. It requires you to pay more attention as the information is being processed solely through auditory stimulation. This is unlike watching television which provides both auditory and visual stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th 1938, I found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or news story. It is much easier to pay attention to the later. Moreover, listening to the radio requires a person to use their own imagination more vividly. The audience has to take in what is being described and create their own personal picture of the event. Television seems to give us a more realistic understanding of what it is news anchor is talking about as the consumers can be shown pictures or film footage of the event being discussed. This add to the audience s view of the incident in its entirety. On the radio, the news broadcasters have to be more descriptive when describing the currents events as their descriptions are the sole foundation that the listener s imagination will be based on. It is only through their description that the listener will get an understanding of whatever is being discussed. The radio host must therefore put in more detail than a television host. The first comment that raised an interesting point was made by a mine worker that was recounted in the Ashley Commission Testimonies. The worker said There is one fills, and we two have to hurry during the day; we ve no time to stop. I d rather be in the pit than at school; I like being in the pit (Ashley Commission Testimonies). The child expresses that he enjoys the pit. This thought displays the drive to work in this miner. Despite the poor conditions of the workplace this worker derives enjoyment from his work. This derivation also exhibits the perception of worker rights, working conditions and the importance of work in this culture and time. The fact that this worker is able to derive enjoyment from this position with little to no rights and poor working conditions shows that other businesses are also not recognizing these two concepts because he is comfortable at his work and not seeking other employment. Next, his comment about how he would rather be working than going to school displays the importance placed on work in this culture. The next comment that has significance was made by a colliery owner. In his response he explains how the workers at the colliery enjoy their jobs and that the work may be long, but it is simple. He also expresses that the colliery provides an education for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This theory stated that if the U.S. allowed one country to fall to communism, those around it would fall, and then those around it, eventually taking over the whole world. The Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both parties decide to protect themselves from the players; As a result of following a purely logical thought process to help oneself, both participants find themselves in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision making process (Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma, people can predict and understand some of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement as well as the consequences of their possible decisions. • 31. Analysis Of George Weigel s Book Letters Of A Young... Through thick and thin, Catholicism has been around for quite a long time. With millions of followers from around the globe, it has grown to become one of the largest religious faiths. Every single one of these Christians has their own unique story about how their faith has significantly affected their lives. In his book, George Weigel shares his experience as a Catholic growing up in late 1950 s and 1960 s in Baltimore. On page 9 of his book Letters to a Young Catholic , he says The real Catholic difference ... was, at bottom, a way of seeing the world (Weigel 9). This means that what separates a Catholic from the rest is our experience and knowledge of God, through which we are given the power to experience the world differently than most others can. I do feel this way as well. Being Catholic, I feel that I definitely experience the world differently than others. Whenever I see or hear about a tragic event that has occurred, I can hold solace in the idea that everything is all part of God s master plan and that it will all work out in the end. If I am every struggling for anything, whether it an exorbitant amount of homework I have for a weekend or an difficult test or quiz coming up that I haven t had time to study for, I know that I can trust in God and that everything will be alright in the long run. Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely attempts to explore and answer these questions. He covers irrationality from a variety of topics such as human relationships and market dynamics, but the implications are valid in any field that requires decision making. Two topics that Ariely covers in the book are: the zero price effect and the endowment effect. With each of these topics, Ariely challenges the reader to rethink their current decision making process and to step outside the irrational mind of the consumer. For example, governments attempt to persuade the population to receive regular health checks; in some cases running large advertising campaigns and reducing the price of the health check. Ariely suggests that instead of spending money on campaigns around creating awareness, put the money towards making the health check free (Ariely, 2008). While this may not apply to a country with free health care, the same general takeaway is still relevant: free is an emotional button that can change a rational consumer into an irrational ... The dictionary definition of psychedelic is, of or noting a mental state characterized by a profound sense of intensified sensory perception, sometimes accompanied by severe perceptual distortion and hallucinations and by extreme feelings of either euphoria or despair. It started in the 1960 s with the discovery of LSD and use of other psychedelic drugs. Psychedelia did not only affect music, it affected people, cities, and the way people think. At the end of 1966, the United States started outlawing LSD use, but it was too late. The drug was increasing in popularity, and peaked in the summer of 1967. Although it was now illegal, LSD was still getting more and more popular (DeRogatis 6, 9, 10). Many psychedelic bands came from San Francisco s Haight Ashbury district. The Grateful Dead was one of the most popular psychedelic rock bands ever. Although they did not sell many records, they were very well known for their live performances, and their music was often used as a soundtrack for LSD parties. While the Bay area, and especially the Haight Ashbury, was good for producing great bands, there was a downside as well. Other than the many people dying LSD related deaths, many of the early bands were exploited by the record companies. The record companies wanted to profit from the hippy movement, but they did not like their music. Some producers were paid specifically to change a band s original sound into a more popular sound, such as that of The Beatles. He mentions that artists are not in full control of how their art is perceived, but by the people who view it and talk about it. Ultimately, the spectator gives a work of art its meaning, whether or not it aligns with the artists intentions. First, Duchamp suggests that an artist s intentions cannot transcend past the artist. This loss of intention is called art coefficient (Duchamp) If we give the attributes of a medium to the artist, we must then deny him the state of consciousness on the esthetic plane about what he is doing or why he is doing it. Same-Sex Relationships In 1997, Dave Hill wrote The Future of Men, where he forecasts that the future will involve men and women alike accommodating more flexible models of masculinity which acknowledge many features in common with femininity ...[which does] not denigrate either those men who do not exhibit the same masculine traits or those women who do. (Hill, 1997, p. 52) However, when considering same sex versus cross sex friendships of college students, men and women to this day still perform different identities, therefore, resulting in having more frequent stronger same sex friendships than cross sex friendships. Friendship ideals and norms considerably influence preference of friendships and the probability of having a strong intersectional friendship. Most men and women have different friendship ideals and norms from one another. It is imperative to provide a definition for friendship. This news made him confident in his existing belief that if he wanted to be admitted to Ole Miss he would need backing from the federal government.6 The backing of Meredith by the Kennedy Administration adds an interesting dimension to the narrative of Ole Miss. Involvement of federal politics in black issues has historically been dependent on whether it is in the interest of the federal government. During Reconstruction, for example, progressive reforms initiated by the Republican Party were motivated by the necessity of having a politically loyal contingent of voters in Southern, democrat dominated states.7 With the start of the Cold War Washington D.C. s interest in the lives and desires of African Americans is renewed as it struggles to overcome its racist image in recently liberated former colonies overseas in Africa and Asia8.
