IMAX was developed in 1967 as a multi-screen film installation at Expo '67. Over the next three years, IMAX technology was created, featuring a large format camera, projector system, and sound system. IMAX uses a unique large film format and projection system designed for huge screens to provide crystal clear, highly immersive images and sound with approximately 10 times the resolution of conventional films. The digital IMAX cameras introduced greater portability while maintaining high image quality, and 3D IMAX cameras use a dual lens system to create 3D experiences without compromising image quality.
