Pathologic calcification involves the abnormal deposition of calcium salts in tissues. There are two main types: dystrophic calcification occurs in dead or damaged tissues and is associated with normal calcium levels, while metastatic calcification occurs in normal living tissues and is associated with high calcium levels. Dystrophic calcification results from calcium deposition in areas of tissue damage or necrosis. Metastatic calcification is usually caused by hypercalcemia from conditions like hyperparathyroidism or certain cancers. The lungs, kidneys, and gastric mucosa are especially susceptible to metastatic calcification.
The thoracic duct is the largest lymphatic vessel in the body. It begins in the abdomen at the lower border of the T12 vertebrae and extends upwards through the posterior and superior mediastinum to the neck. At the C7 vertebral level, it arches laterally and drains into the junction of the left internal jugular and subclavian veins. It drains lymph from the entire body below the diaphragm and left side of the body above the diaphragm, receiving tributaries from lymph nodes and vessels along its course. Injuries or obstructions to the thin-walled thoracic duct can lead to fluid accumulation in the thorax or abdomen.
Bone marrow is found within bones and produces blood cells, containing two types - red marrow which produces blood cells throughout life and yellow marrow containing fat; it undergoes examination by aspiration and biopsy to evaluate blood cell production and detect abnormalities by analyzing cellular composition and bone marrow architecture.

1. Hyperemia and congestion refer to localized increases in blood volume within dilated vessels and are associated with edema.
2. Edema occurs when hydrostatic pressure is increased or oncotic pressure is decreased, overwhelming the lymphatic system and causing fluid accumulation in tissues.
3. Common causes of edema include increased venous pressure from heart failure, decreased plasma proteins, lymphatic obstruction, sodium retention, and inflammation.
Erythropoiesis is the process of formation of red blood cells (erythrocytes) through maturation of stem cells in the bone marrow. In fetal life, erythropoiesis occurs in the yolk sac, liver, and later the bone marrow. In adults, erythropoiesis takes place primarily in the bone marrow. The process involves the maturation of stem cells into pro-erythroblasts, normoblasts, reticulocytes, and finally mature erythrocytes over the course of approximately 7 days as the cells reduce in size, lose their nuclei, and accumulate hemoglobin in their cytoplasm.

The document summarizes key events during the third week of human embryonic development. It describes how the bilaminar embryonic disc undergoes gastrulation to form the trilaminar embryo, with the three germ layers. It also discusses neurulation, somite formation, and the folding of the embryo. The main developments are the formation of the primitive streak, notochord, and somites, which establish the body plan and organize the developing systems and structures.
This document discusses cellular adaptation, injury, and death. It covers topics like hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy, metaplasia, causes of cell injury including hypoxia and free radicals, necrosis and apoptosis. It provides detailed descriptions of the morphological changes that occur during cellular injury and the mechanisms of necrosis, apoptosis and intracellular accumulation.
This document provides an overview of muscle anatomy and physiology. It discusses the three types of muscles - skeletal, smooth and cardiac - and their microscopic structures. Skeletal muscle is composed of fascicles containing bundles of striated muscle fibers. Each fiber contains myofibrils made up of actin and myosin filaments that generate the power of muscle contraction. Nerve signals trigger calcium release and the sliding of these filaments. The document also covers muscle naming conventions, blood supply, innervation and types of contraction.
This document discusses neoplasia and provides classifications of tumors. It defines a neoplasm as an abnormal mass of tissue whose growth exceeds and is uncoordinated with normal tissue. Tumors are classified as benign or malignant. Benign tumors are noncancerous growths named by adding "-oma" to the cell of origin (e.g. fibroblast tumor is called a fibroma). Malignant tumors are cancers, with sarcomas arising from mesenchymal tissues and carcinomas from epithelial tissues. Malignant tumors are less differentiated, irregular in shape, invade surrounding tissues, and are usually larger than benign tumors.
During the 4th week of development, the embryo undergoes longitudinal and transverse folding which transforms it from a flat disc into a curved tube. This folding incorporates the yolk sac endoderm to form the gut tube and divides the coelom into the thoracic and abdominal cavities. It also repositions structures like the heart and mouth opening. By the end of the 4th week, the embryo has prominent head and tail folds, limb buds, and many organ systems are established.
The document discusses the local and systemic effects of tumors on the host. Locally, both benign and malignant tumors can cause compression, mechanical obstruction, and tissue destruction. Malignant tumors tend to have more serious local effects. Systemically, cancers can cause cachexia, fever, tumor lysis syndrome, and paraneoplastic syndromes. Grading describes a tumor's differentiation, while staging evaluates its extent based on primary tumor size, lymph node involvement, and metastasis.
The body cavity forms from lateral plate mesoderm splitting into parietal and visceral layers. As the embryo develops, lateral body wall folds meet at the midline and fuse to close the ventral body wall except at the connecting stalk, forming the primitive body cavity. Cells of the parietal and visceral layers form serous membranes lining body cavities. The septum transversum and pleuropericardial folds divide the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity, with the diaphragm developing from the septum transversum, pleuroperitoneal membranes, somites, and mesentery of the esophagus.
An embolism is the obstruction of blood vessels by a mass or clot that has detached from its origin and traveled through the bloodstream. Embolisms can be classified based on the material causing the obstruction and the source and direction of blood flow. Common types of embolisms include pulmonary, fat, air, amniotic fluid, and tumor embolisms. Pulmonary embolisms originate in the lower leg veins and are caused by stasis, hypercoagulability, or a saddle embolism. Fat embolisms result from trauma or medical conditions and obstruct arterioles and capillaries. Decompression sickness is a form of gas embolism that affects scuba divers or caisson workers
The lymphatic system works with the cardiovascular system to return fluid to the bloodstream that has escaped into tissues. Lymph is tissue fluid that is picked up by lymph capillaries from interstitial fluid and contains oxygen, proteins, glucose and white blood cells. Lymph vessels carry lymph through lymph nodes which filter the lymph before returning it to the bloodstream via the thoracic duct or right lymphatic duct. Key components of the lymphatic system include lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen and thymus which help fight infection and return fluid to circulation.
1. An infarct is a localized area of ischemic necrosis that occurs in a tissue or organ due to impaired arterial blood supply or venous drainage.
2. Causes of infarcts include occlusion of arteries or veins from thrombosis, embolism, atherosclerotic plaques, or external compression, as well as spasm of arterioles.
3. There are three main types of infarcts: white (anemic) infarcts caused by arterial occlusion in organs with few collaterals; red (hemorrhagic) infarcts caused by arterial or venous occlusion in loose tissues; and septic infarcts caused by bacteria-containing emboli.
During the second week of development, the bilaminar germ disc undergoes several key events: 1) implantation of the blastocyst in the uterus, 2) differentiation of the trophoblast into syncytiotrophoblast and cytotrophoblast layers, establishing utero-placental circulation, and 3) differentiation of the embryoblast into hypoblast and epiblast layers, forming the amniotic and exocoelomic cavities. The trophoblast also begins forming primary villi and the extraembryonic mesoderm develops between the trophoblast and embryoblast, forming the chorionic cavity.
This document discusses various lung pathologies including atelectasis, obstructive lung diseases, pulmonary infections, lung tumors, and pleural lesions. It provides detailed descriptions of different types of atelectasis including resorption, compression, and contraction atelectasis. It also discusses common obstructive lung diseases like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, and bronchiectasis. Various pulmonary infections and their causes are outlined. The most common lung tumors are discussed with a focus on bronchogenic carcinoma. Risk factors for bronchogenic carcinoma like tobacco smoking are examined. Occupational lung diseases including silicosis, asbestosis, and their clinical features are also reviewed.
The nasal bone forms the bridge of the nose and attaches to cartilaginous tissues that give the nose its shape. The nasal cavity warms or cools inhaled air and removes dust and particles through vibrissae. It has respiratory and olfactory segments, with the olfactory segment responsible for smell. The nasal cavity receives blood supply and innervation from various cranial nerves, including the nasociliary, nasopalatine, and posterior nasal branches of the maxillary nerve.

Premalignant conditions like myeloproliferative disorders and myelodysplastic syndromes are also briefly outlined.
The intercostal space is the space between two adjacent ribs, containing the intercostal muscles, neurovascular bundle, and other structures. There are typically 11 intercostal spaces on each side of the body. The neurovascular bundle within each space typically contains the intercostal vein above the artery and nerve. The intercostal nerves branch off anteriorly and posteriorly to innervate the chest wall. Typical and atypical intercostal spaces differ in their blood and nerve supply patterns.
This document describes the formation of the notochord and differentiation of the intra-embryonic mesoderm in 5 steps. It explains that the intra-embryonic mesoderm forms from proliferating cells on the sides of the primitive node and streak. This mesoderm then differentiates into the paraxial, intermediate, and lateral plate mesoderm. The paraxial mesoderm forms somites which differentiate into sclerotome, dermatome, and myotome. The intermediate mesoderm forms the urogenital system, while the lateral plate mesoderm splits to form the somatic and splanchnic mesoderm separated by the intra-embryonic coelom.
The azygos system of veins includes the azygos vein on the right side and the hemiazygos and accessory hemiazygos veins on the left side. These veins connect the inferior and superior vena cava, providing an important pathway for venous drainage from the thorax. The azygos vein receives tributaries from the posterior intercostal veins and lumbar veins before draining into the superior vena cava. The hemiazygos and accessory hemiazygos veins mirror the azygos vein on the left side, joining together before terminating in the azygos vein. This system plays a key role in venous return when the superior vena cava is obstructed.

Can the world see Jesus in you?Can they see His love in the things that you do,Are you living the life? Are you faithful and true? Can the world see Jesus, see Jesus in you?
This document contains the lyrics to a Christian song about pleading with Jesus to be released from sin and cleansed of sin through his salvation. The song is composed of an introduction, three stanzas describing a life of sin and a desire to repent and return to God, and a chorus repeating the plea to be released from sin. It ends with restating the chorus and plea.
Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

I’ll never never turn around,
I’ve set my feet on God’s road,
I’ll travel till I reach my home,
Ten thousand foes may surround me,
To turn me from the right,
But I’ve already decided,
I’ll never never turn around
