The Africa RISING West Africa Project began in 2011 with brainstorming meetings to plan farming systems intensification projects in Ghana and Mali. An inception workshop in 2012 established the research framework and approach. Africa RISING was launched as a 5-year research program with 3 regional projects in West Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Ethiopian Highlands. The goal is to create pathways for smallholders to move out of poverty through sustainable intensification. Field activities began in 2012 in Ghana and Mali, with research focusing on crop-livestock systems. Challenges implementing the first years included delays establishing baselines and integrating partner organizations.
[Challenge:Future] SAKSHAM- Act to Impact
The document outlines a plan to create the Green Collar Division, a for-profit entity to provide skill training to workers in India's unorganized sector. The goals are to train 1 million people over 10 years in focus sectors like sustainability and technology, partner with governments and organizations, and ensure livelihoods for 100,000 annually through job networks and small business growth. SIFE Worldwide - Annual Report
The SIFE team at the University College of Management Studies in Ghana helped over 1,500 villagers on Tomefa Island improve their livelihood through agrotourism. The team taught villagers tourism and hospitality skills, helped market the island to attract over 450 tourists, and trained farmers on organic farming techniques and financial management. As a result, crop yields increased 90% and the villagers gained a sustainable source of income through agrotourism.

AgShare is a project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to build an open system for sharing agricultural teaching and learning materials across African universities. It involves partnerships between universities, faculty, students, and content providers. The goal is to develop and distribute open educational resources that address gaps in African agriculture curriculums. Initial pilots are underway at four universities in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya. CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
